Chiefs 2026 scouting report: USC Trojans S Kamari Ramsey

The Kansas City Chiefs enter 2025 with both projected starting safeties on rookie contracts. Staying cheap at a lower value position is a smart way to extend pillars of the franchise on lucrative deals, but not investing significant resources into replacing Justin Reid comes with drawbacks. The Chiefs should evaluate safeties in the 2026 NFL draft. Kansas City needs to invest in a safety, even if two-year starter Bryan Cook and 2024 fourth round pick Jaden Hicks deliver quality play this season. Cook and backups Deon Bush and Mike Edwards all become unrestricted free agents next offseason. That leaves Hicks, who played fewer than 350 defensive snaps as a rookie, and nickel-safety hybrid Chamarri Conner as Kansas City's lone meaningful safeties signed beyond this year. USC's Kamari Ramsey had second round tape in 2024 but elected to return to school rather than enter the draft. He enters the new season only trailing Ohio State's Caleb Downs in the 2026 draft's safety rankings. Ramsey's pre- and post-snap processing put him a level above most safeties in the college ranks. He anticipates and attacks screens or shallow passes, preventing offenses from picking up easy yardage. Ramsey diagnoses route concepts quickly and triggers downhill to limit yards after the catch or deliver fierce hits that force incompletions. Ramsey matched up with Penn State superstar Tyler Warren last year and made a pair of goal line tackles in space to prevent touchdowns deep in the red zone. He matches up with tight ends in space too. Ramsey's fast footwork, natural acceleration and quick transitions make him a sticky coverage option. Ramsey survives in brief stints of man coverage, but he's at his best operating in zone in Cover 2 or Cover 3. His awareness, downhill burst and instincts help him pinch throwing lanes or jump routes for interceptions. Ramsey makes clutch tackles in space, but his down-to-down aggression in run defense is inconsistent. His average, 6'0", 204 lb. build took some damage in 2024 that made him appear a bit hesitant to stick his nose into the low box. However, he runs the alley and puts plays away when his team needs a stop. This article originally appeared on Chiefs Wire: 2026 NFL draft scouting report: USC Trojans S Kamari Ramsey

USC Defender Cracks Top 15 of Prestigious NFL Draft List

USC Defender Cracks Top 15 of Prestigious NFL Draft List originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The USC Trojans will attempt to launch new fireworks with key starters back on offense. But one defender is garnering his own NFL Draft praise. Including landing on a prestigious list Thursday. Advertisement The Athletic rolled out its list of top underclassmen ahead of the 2025 college football season. USC is represented at No. 15 through safety Kamari Ramsey. How did Ramsey crack this lineup? He's fresh off delivering the following 2024 numbers: 60 total tackles, 5.5 for a loss, six pass breakups, five incompletions, two forced fumbles and one interception. But The Athletic's Nick Baumgardner dove into why Ramsey lands at 15th overall. USC celebrates a defensive touchdown against Nevada in 2023. Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports "A fourth-year junior who started his career at UCLA, Ramsey was one of the best coverage safeties in the country last season for the Trojans," Baumgardner shared, who added Ramsey delivered that production through versatility. Bouncing between free safety, box safety and nickel corner. Advertisement "Big enough (6-0, 202) and physical enough to be an outside corner, Ramsey has coverage instincts that stack up against any defensive back in the country," Baumgardner included. While Ramsey is lauded for his ability to bounce between multiple spots, there's an area he can raise his level of play in. "There is room for improvement here, though — Ramsey's work against the run leaves plenty to be desired. He missed 15 tackles last season and has to be better in 2025 with his pursuit angles and technique in space," Baumgardner said. Ramsey will rise on draft boards if he corrects this flaw. Which makes him more of a complete safety. He could follow Jaylin Smith is boosting his own draft stock. Will USC safety Kamari Ramsey be a first-round NFL draft pick?

Lincoln Riley's defenses have historically struggled. They have often been the reason why some of his teams haven't been able to get over the hump. USC football safety Kamari Ramsey is a playmaker who is hoping to change that identity this season and make a name for himself as one of the best safeties in college football. In a new Sports Illustrated article featuring the USC Trojans, writer Kendell Hollowell lists Kamari Ramsey as the Trojan on the defensive side of the ball who has the best chance to hear his named called on Day 1 of the 2026 NFL draft. "Safety Kamari Ramsey started 11 games as redshirt freshman at UCLA in 2023. He followed defensive coordinator D'Anton Lynn to USC when he was hired in December 2023. Ramsey was instrumental in helping Lynn install his defense in the spring. After the Trojans ranked at the bottom of almost every statistical category on defense in 2023, Ramsey helped USC make tremendous strides in 2024. They were better in all facets of the defense — physicality, schematics and tackling, and Ramsey certainly played a large role in that. Ramsey tallied 60 tackles, including 5.5 for loss, two sacks, five PBUs and an interception in 11 games last season. He chose to forgo the 2025 NFL Draft and return to school for another season. The redshirt junior will take on the role of wearing the green dot this upcoming season, which signifies what player that is allowed to communicate with their sidelines via radio. "Ramsey is an impact player at three levels of the defense. Lynn was not hesitant using Ramsey in blitz packages and showed his range playing a deep half safety. He's physical and is excellent showing up in run support. Ramsey possess a high football IQ and is a tremendous leader on the backend of the Trojans defense. The Athletic has projected the USC safety as a first-round pick."

Kamari Ramsey, Makai Lemon, Elijah Paige to represent USC at 2025 Big Ten media days

Believe it or not, the start of the 2025 college football season is right around the corner. We are just three weeks away from this year's Big Ten football media days, which signify the unofficial start of the year. On Monday, the conference announced the player representatives for all 18 schools who will be in attendance at the event. Representing USC this year will be redshirt junior safety Kamari Ramsey, junior wide receiver Makai Lemon, and redshirt sophomore offensive lineman Elijah Paige, along with head coach Lincoln Riley. Ramsey also represented USC at Big Ten Media Days last year. After transferring in from crosstown rival UCLA last season alongside defensive coordinator D'Anton Lynn ahead of last season, he finished the 2024 campaign with 60 tackles, five passes defended, two sacks, two forced fumbles, and one interception. Lemon is coming off a sophomore season in which he led the Trojans in both receptions (52) and receiving yards (764). Now as a junior in 2025, he will look to establish himself as one of the top wide receivers in the country. Paige is entering his second season as a starter on USC's offensive line. Last year, he was named a freshman All-American by the FWAA. This year's Big Ten football media days will take place from July 22-24 in Las Vegas. USC's representatives are scheduled to speak on day three of the event.

Eric Gentry, Kamari Ramsey named to LOTT Impact Trophy watch list

Eric Gentry, Kamari Ramsey named to LOTT Impact Trophy watch list The start of the 2025 college football season is drawing closer and closer. Now in June, watch list season is officially upon us. Last week, we got our first USC watch list announcement of the year with the news that both Eric Gentry and Kamari Ramsey were named to the LOTT Impact Trophy Watch List. After dealing with injuries last season, Gentry is hoping to return to form in his final year of eligibility in 2025. When healthy, the linebacker—who transferred in from Arizona State in 2022—has been one of the Trojans' best defensive players. Ramsey started his college career across town at UCLA, before following defensive coordinator D'Anton Lynn to UCLA last year. After an impressive first season with the Trojans in 2024, the hard-hitting safety was projected as a mid-round NFL draft pick. However, Ramsey elected to return to USC for his redshirt junior year, and should be one of the leaders of the Trojans' defense in 2025. The LOTT Impact Trophy is presented each year to a defensive player who demonstrates both elite athletic ability and strong personal character. Since the award was first given out in 2007, no USC player has won it. However, four Trojans have been finalists, Devon Kennard in 2913, Adoree' Jackson in 2016, Talanoa Hufanga in 2029, and Tuli Tuipululotu in 2022.
