'A comedic genius and my right-hand man' — Mandla N pays tribute to the late Oscar ‘Madluphuthu' Mgudlwa
Tributes continue to pour in after the death of actor and comedian Oscar Mgudlwa, popularly known as Madluphuthu, with industry peers and fans mourning the loss of a true pioneer of township comedy. Oscar was actively involved in most Black Brain Pictures productions such as Blackdoor, Mabaso Family Reunion, Isitha-The Enemy, to name a few. Among those who paid tribute to him was Black Brain Pictures executive Mandla N, who worked closely with Oscar over the years and shared a deep creative bond with the late star. In a moving message, Mandla described Oscar as more than just a collaborator, calling him a 'comedic genius' and a 'relentless soldier in the arts'. 'On behalf of the entire Black Brain family, we are deeply saddened by the loss of a true creative force — a comedic genius, a relentless soldier in the arts. He was more than just a collaborator; he was family,' Mandla said. 'We had the privilege of working with him time and time again, and every moment was filled with brilliance, laughter, and authenticity.' Oscar rose to prominence in the early 2000s with his unique brand of humour and unforgettable on-screen presence, earning cult status through his Madluphuthu films which resonated deeply with township audiences. Mandla spoke of Oscar's rare ability to tell kasi stories with heart, humour and truth, an invaluable asset to the creative process at Black Brain. 'Personally, I've lost my right-hand man, especially when it came to Kasi stories and understanding how to connect truthfully to that market. He had a rare understanding of that world and his insights shaped a lot of what we created together.' He ended his tribute with a message of gratitude: 'Rest in peace, my brother. Thank you for everything.' Oscar's legacy as a storyteller and cultural voice lives on in the many characters he brought to life and the laughter he left behind.

Give credit where it is due!
SEDIBENG.- They say give credit where it is due! This is exactly what Zakes' Sports Corner is going to do. For a change, there were positive developments taking place in Vaal football over the long weekend. For example, FAR Post and Lucky Star Pilchards hosted a massive coaching workshop and soccer clinic for local boys and girls. This was also in partnership with Orlando Pirates superstar Relebohile Mofokeng. It was an exciting football programme with school kids getting free soccer lessons from the coaches and soccer legends. This is what Zakes' Sports Corner wants to see happen in this region. This region, especially coaches and young players, deserves much better. Give credit where it is due, and this is exactly what Zakes' Sports Corner is going to do: give credit to those who organise unique programmes. It has been a while since something like this happened in this region. The only thing that is taking place in the area is this so-called Kasi football. Like Zakes' Sports Corner said in previous columns, Vaal football is all about Kasi football. Zakes' Sports Corner wants to thank FAR Post and Lucky Star Pilchards for their initiative. Adding to the joy, Mofokeng became the latest player to launch his own foundation. This foundation was launched over the weekend with big names such as Kaizer Chiefs legend Doctor Khumalo and others attending the Gala Dinner. This is what Zakes' Sports Corner means when I say positive developments were happening in the Vaal over the long weekend. Somebody, give credit where it is due! Listening or reading Ramayana
People in the Tretayuga were telling each other that God would realise and understand their difficulties if only He came down from the realm of His abode. Hearing this, the Lord has transcended as Rama and lived for about 11,000 years. Although he faced several problems, he did not give up following dharma. That is why, even after millions of years, people continue to celebrate Rama Navami, the auspicious day of Rama's manifestation. Rama tried to hide his divine identity. After conquering Ravana, the celestials, including Brahma, the God of creation, asked Rama whether he was Lord Ranganatha. Still, Rama politely replied that he was an ordinary human being and the son of Dasaratha 'Aatmanam Manusham Manye Ramam Dasarathaatmajam'. Kesava Vajapeya Swamy said in a discourse that our sins act as impediments to our happiness and well-being. It is unfair to accuse God of not answering to our prayers or clearing our sufferings. Lord Krishna says in the Bhagavad Gita that 'only the ignorants disregard Me, not knowing my higher stature as the supreme Lord of all beings' (chapter 9, verse 11). In other Yugas, if people undertake only good deeds, such as going on a pilgrimage to Kasi kshetra, they would derive benefits. However, in the Kaliyuga, people can derive benefits by thinking of performing good deeds. Equally, in all other yugas, if people even think of evil deeds, they will incur sins, but in the Kaliyuga, such mere thinking will not attract any sin. Three ways are prescribed to cleanse our sins: performing Yagnas, giving to charity, observing Tapas (penance) and reading or hearing Ramayana is a tapas. The Ramayana begins with the word 'Tapas' (Tapaswadhyayaniratham). If a person cannot read the entire Ramayana, one can recite the Sankshepa Ramayanam or the Gayatri Ramayana, which contain 24 slokas.
