R30 000 at stake on Saturday
The 4th annual Kasi football tournament began over the long weekend earlier this month with knockout stages and will conclude on Saturday. There will be action galore with the big guns in kasi football and the winner will smile all the way to the bank with a R30 000 cheque.
The tournament organisers promise a humdinger come Saturday. The finals will take place at France's dusty soccer ground in Ext 15, Movhango. The day's programme will start at 9:00 with the first semi-final and 12:00 with the second semi-final.
There will be curtain raisers for the final as local soccer legends will face each other to entertain the crowd.
Speaking to Sedibeng Ster Sport, Molife 'Duku Duku' Mahlangu said this year's tournament saw some exciting new talent all over Sedibeng.
He told Sedibeng Ster Sport that there will be a hive of activities on the day of the final, with local soccer fans expected to come in big numbers to watch the much-anticipated match.
Mahlangu said Bophelong is expected to come to a standstill.
'I can't wait, and believe the soccer fans also can't wait for Saturday. We witnessed a high standard of football since the start of the tournament. I do not doubt that we will be spoiled with exciting football. We thank the Bophelong and Movhango communities for their support since the tournament started. I do not doubt that they enjoyed the talent that was displayed. We also thank every supporter, especially our stakeholders. Duku Duku Tournament is a platform to showcase local talent. We always invite scouts,' said Mahlangu.

SHARPEVILLE.- With August around the corner, Sedibeng Ster Sport takes a look at women who play a huge role in sports in the Vaal. August is Women's Month, celebrating the strength of ordinary women in the community for their outstanding contributions in various fields. Orlando Pirates midfield striker Relebohile Mofokeng's mother, Naome, is one of the women who deserves flowers for the role she plays in her son's football career. When 'Rele' was still young, playing for a local amateur soccer team, Celeb Youth Academy in Sharpeville, Naome used to come to watch him. This was long before it became fashionable for mothers or parents to get involved in their children's football careers. Unlike others, Naome didn't wait for her son to play for these so-called elite development academies to support him. She supported the boy while he was still playing on the dusty soccer grounds. Sedibeng Ster Sport still has memories of her running up and down the touchline when Rele was only 12 years old, playing at George Thabe Stadium or James and Pepsi soccer grounds. She was always there, not only to watch him, but to also support the rest of the team. She is passionate about football. The truth is she didn't only show interest in his son's football career when he played for Orlando Pirates, but long before Rele became a household name in South African football. We take a bow, Mrs Mofokeng, you deserve flowers. She was always there since Rele's father, Sechaba Mofokeng, at the time, was also an active soccer player, playing in the First Division League. Relebohile's parents launched the Relebohile Mofokeng Foundation to help those from disadvantaged backgrounds. They hosted the 1st Annual Relebohile Mofokeng Tournament, which came to an end last weekend in his hometown in Sharpeville. I support every child who is involved in sports in the community,' she said. The PROS and CONS of Relebohile Mofokeng staying for another season
Before the end of last season, Orlando Pirates star Relebohile Mofokeng was already tipped for a move to Europe. With just over a week until the MTN8 competition resumes, the 20-year-old is still with the Buccaneers. He recently toured with the team to Spain for their pre-season training, where he scored two goals in four matches.
