Michigan State is one of a few Big Ten schools with top 25 QB commitment in 2026 class

Michigan State is one of only a few Big Ten teams that currently holds a commitment from a top 25 quarterback prospect in the 2026 class. All of the Rivals' top 25 quarterback prospects in the 2026 class are now committed, and Michigan State is fortunate enough to have one of the commits in Kayd Coffman. He ranks as the No. 23 quarterback in the Rivals Industry Rankings for the 2026 class, which is fifth among Big Ten commitments in the position. Coffman has been committed to Michigan State since early February and ranks as one of the top commitments in the Spartans' 2026 class. On rivals, he is listed as a four-star prospect and ranked as the No. 6 player from Michigan and No. 237 overall prospect in the class. Coffman has long been considered a centerpiece of the Spartans' 2026 class so it's no surprise to see him among the top 25 quarterbacks in the class. Should Michigan State hold onto his commitment throughout this fall and sign him in December, he will surely be a big part of the Spartans' future on the gridiron. Michigan State Football 2026 QB Kayd Coffman Commit Has 3-Word Message Following Visit

Michigan State Football 2026 QB Kayd Coffman Commit Has 3-Word Message Following Visit originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Michigan State Spartans seem to have fully won over four-star Class of 2026 prospect Kayd Coffman. Advertisement Coffman, a Grand Rapids native, is ranked the fourth-best talent in the state of Michigan and the 19th-best quarterback nationally in the Class of 2026 by 247Sports' Composite Rankings. He committed to head coach Jonathan Smith and his staff in February, but has received plenty of interest from other Power 4 programs -- including a recent offer from Colorado in May after his initial commitment. Spartans head coach Jonathan Smith© Nick King/Lansing State Journal / USA TODAY NETWORK via Imagn Images Coffman recently travelled to East Lansing for an official visit with Michigan State, and his response to the trip ought to dispel any fears that Smith's staff and fans of the Spartans have that the East Kentwood product may not be serious about his commitment to the program. While nothing is official until Signing Day, Coffman had a three-word message when asked if his visit was reassuring that made his feelings about Michigan State quite clear. "Yes! I'm home," Coffman told Michigan State Spartans on SI. Advertisement During that same interview, Coffman further discussed the visit -- noting how much he enjoys visiting the campus in East Lansing and further driving home the point that Michigan State is now "home" for the young gunslinger. "The visit was awesome great spending even more time on campus," he said. ""I think the whole visit was just really a great time to understand that I'm home." Coffman recently gained some attention for his strong performance at a 7-on-7 hosted by the Spartans where he was captured on film making light work of an opposing defense with his exceptional passing skills. The footage was shared by 247 Sports' recruiting analyst Allen Trieu. Advertisement Tyrone Spencer, who serves as Coffman's head coach at East Kentwood, also recently praised Coffman's leadership ability and impressive on-field talents while speaking with 247Sports. 'The first thing he wanted to do was have the team read this book together and that was different. I've never had a kid do that. We were getting numbers in the weight room and he asked me if I had read 'Getting to Neutral,' a mindset book on how to conquer negativity. He said Russell Wilson used it and it was good to have the team read it. From then on, he's shown great leadership and has done it by example," Spencer said. "He has a very impressive, live arm. He can make throws from off hash to the other hash, and on time too. There were a couple comebacks where before the receiver is even breaking, he could get the ball over there. I think he's just really tapping into himself, too. He has more room to grow in that aspect.' 4-Star Michigan State Football Commit Kayd Hoffman Shreds Defense at Spartans' 7-on-7

4-Star Michigan State Football Commit Kayd Hoffman Shreds Defense at Spartans' 7-on-7 originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Michigan State Spartans welcomed some of the best players and teams in prep football to a 7-on-7 tournament in East Lansing on Sunday, and it didn't take long for a promising young quarterback committed to the host program to stand out against his competition. Advertisement Class of 2026 gunslinger Kayd Coffman was in attendance at the 7-on-7 at Michigan State. The East Kentwood (Mich.) senior committed to Spartans' Head Coach Jonathan Smith and his staff in February, and showed up ready to compete against some of the top talent in the Midwest. And it didn't take long for him to show just why he's so highly rated as a prospect -- and why Michigan State football was so eager to snatch him up. Michigan State's offense looks on from the sidelineNick King/Lansing State Journal/USA TODAY NETWORK via Imagn Images 247Sports' Allen Trieu, who covers Midwest recruiting for the national outlet, is in attendance for the tournament -- and before most people were on their way to church Sunday morning, he had footage online of Coffman making light work of an opposing defense. Advertisement Just after 9 AM EST, Trieu posted a pair of tweets on X, formerly known as Twitter, with film off Coffman delivering a number of impressive throws, at one point writing that the Grand Rapids, Mich. native was "throwing darts." Coffman is currently ranked the fourth-best prospect in the state of Michigan and the 19th-best quarterback nationally in his recruiting class in the 247Sports composite rankings. Trieu's most recent evaluation for Coffman draws a comparison to former Penn State starting quarterback and current Green Bay Packer reserve Sean Clifford, who finished his six-season collegiate career with 10,661 passing yards, 86 touchdowns, and 31 interceptions with a 61.4% completion percentage in 51 appearances (46 starts). Advertisement "Ball comes out of his hand with good pace and velocity," Trieu wrote. "Mechanically sound, has worked on the technical aspects with his coaching staff and private quarterback trainer and has thrown a variety of balls. Has the snap and arm strength to get the ball to any part of the field. Shows the ability to throw on the move and get the ball downfield without setting his feet." Four Recruits, Kayd Coffman, Jack Lansing III, Tyren Wortham, and Jamal Rule, Will Visit Michigan State in Final Weekend of Official Visits

Four Recruits, Kayd Coffman, Jack Lansing III, Tyren Wortham, and Jamal Rule, Will Visit Michigan State in Final Weekend of Official Visits originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The final weekend of official visits is here and it's the last chance to get recruits on campus before the fall. Michigan State has been on a recruitment roll and is currently No. 26 overall in the NCAA with its class of 2026. Advertisement June has been a huge boost of confidence for head coach Jonathan Smith and the Spartans with 14 of its recruits committing in this month alone. Now with the last weekend upon East Lansing, here are the quartet of visitors Michigan State will host. Michigan State's head coach Jonathan King/Lansing State Journal / USA TODAY NETWORK Quarterback Kayd Coffman Coffman is a four-star recruit that's already committed to the Spartans. The No. 259 overall recruit is the 19th quarterback from his class and the No. 4 pick out of Michigan. He is the only quarterback from the class of 2026 that's committed to Michigan State. His development with the Spartans and trajectory for the program seem to be bright with Coffman expected to step up into a major role during his time with Smith. Advertisement Linebacker Jack Lansing III The three-star defenseman is another Michigan State commit set to visit over the weekend. He's considered the No. 163 linebacker and No. 42 recruit from Michigan. While Lansing III is not a headlining recruit by any means as he's received a walk-on offer, his visit will allow him to get a feel for the program and environment. Wide receiver Tyren Wortham Unlike the other two recruits, Wortham is not a MSU commit. He's currently decided on UCF, but did not cancel his official visit with the Spartans. The wide receiver is a No. 387 overall, three-star recruit, No. 59 in his position, and the No. 57 athlete out of Florida. Advertisement Wortham's visit will be an opportunity for Smith to potentially flip his commitment as he's not 100 percent locked in on the Knights. Running back Jamal Rule Rule is another three-star recruit. He's ranked as the No. 47 running back and No. 33 pick out of North Carolina. Michigan State is the final school he has left to visit, and was a last minute interest of Smith's. The rising senior is currently not committed anywhere, but has a top five list of finalists that includes the Spartans. A final visit with Michigan State will help Rule determine if he belongs in East Lansing or with North Carolina State, Syracuse, Virginia Tech, or Nebraska. Advertisement It's possible that Smith has other recruits that will be on campus, as commits, like Jordan Vann and Tristan Comer, did not have the dates of their visits announced. However, looking at the solidified group of four that will be on campus, it will be important for Smith to maintain the two already committed. This is especially so for Coffman, though it's unlikely the quarterback will decommit to look elsewhere.
