Photo: Gavin Barker/BackpagePix Bafana Bafana's squad for the CAF African Nations Championship (CHAN) is an exciting mix of experienced players and emerging talent. One particularly intriguing detail is that nearly half of the selected players are currently free agents. Out of the 25 players chosen, 12 don't have contracts, featuring standout names like Zakhele Lepasa, Keagan Dolly, and Thabiso Kutumela. Also making waves in the lineup are Sundowns midfielder Neo Maema and his impressive teammates Terrence Mashego and Ntando Nkozi. This unique situation will offer these players a brilliant chance to shine on a continental stage, potentially securing new contracts while proudly representing their nation. With the CHAN tournament focusing solely on players active in their home leagues, it's a stern test for many footballing nations, including Bafana Bafana as they gear up for a thrilling challenge in Group C. They'll be up against hosts Uganda, alongside Algeria, Niger, and Guinea—what an exhilarating lineup! Scheduled from August 2 to 30, the tournament will be held across the vibrant host nations of Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda. SAFA's Technical Committee has appointed Molefi Ntseki as the head coach of the CHAN team, and he is brimming with enthusiasm. 'We have assembled a team that will represent South Africa in the CHAN tournament,' he expressed confidently. 'We've carefully selected players who embarked on this journey with us. We can't wait for the tournament and are determined to give our all. "A big thank you to the clubs and coaches who made it possible for our players to join the CHAN squad' The excitement is building as the team started to train in Johannesburg on Friday before flying out to Uganda on August 3. They'll kick off their tournament against Algeria on August 8 at the iconic Mandela National Stadium in Kampala. Sundowns stars beef up who's who of has-beens in Bafana's Chan squad

The South African Football Association has announced the Bafana Bafana squad that will take part in the African Nations Championship (Chan) for local-based teams in East Africa in August. There are a number of recognisable names in the 25-player squad but the amount of players labelled as 'unattached' is an indication of the challenge assembling a local-based national combination to compete in the finals. Almost half the squad — 12 players — are without a club. There are some well-known names among those, though some read like a who's who of has-beens. Unattached players include former Mamelodi Sundowns and Kaizer Chiefs star Keagan Dolly and former Orlando Pirates striker Zakhele Lepasa and former Bucs midfielder Ndabayithethwa Ndlondlo. Other blasts from the past are former Pirates and Bloemfontein Celtic forward Menzi Masuku, former Pirates fullback Wayde Jooste, and former Pirates, Mamelodi Sundowns Richards Bay forward Thabiso Kutumela. Sundowns contribute many of the more current names, though many of these are fringe performers at the Pretoria giants and some have been reported to be on their way out of Masandawana.

Kaizer Chiefs transfers: Three leave, three arrive

Kaizer Chiefs are moving swiftly to sharpen some rough edges on their playing squad. Here's how things stand. Sabele Radebe leaves Naturena along with two other senior stars. Chiefs will soon seal deals for Thabiso Monyane and Paseka Mako. FIVE Amakhosi stars are leaving the club before 2025-2026 Sabelo Radebe is no longer a Chiefs player. The 25-year-old got his first taste of senior football at the club in 2017-2028. He only had two Betway Premiership outings this season. He's only notched a total of 18 appearances. Meanwhile, goal-shy Ranga Chivaviro also departs and Njabulo Blom returns to the United States MLS at the end of his loan spell. Salum to Chiefs, done deal soon? Feisal Salum warms up for Azam FC in the Tanzania Premier League. Image: FootballSA Chiefs still have Khama Billiat's underwhelming stint at the club fresh in their memories. Now, they're hesitant to hand a bumper deal to a player over the age of 30. Billiat and Keagan Dolly were two of the country's best-paid players, but both failed to live up to the hype at Naturena. 'The team feels that apparently they believe they have learnt a lesson from the signing of Khama Billiat and Keagan Dolly,' an inside source explained. 'They paid a lot of money, but the club believes those returns were not worth it. So that's why they are looking at other forward players apart from Percy Tau. So, for now, he is not one of the targets. But in football, you never know what will happen in future. But definitely not now.' Kaizer Chiefs: Top FIVE most valuable players and their staggering price tags

Kaizer Chiefs is one of the richest football clubs in South Africa. So, it comes as no suprise that Amakhosi players are amongst the most expensive in the Transfer market. Kaizer Chiefs are well-known for their incredible buying power. In fact, at one point Amakhosi had the three highest-paid players in the PSL – Keagan Dolly, Samir Nurkovic and Khama Billiat – at the same time. Now, despite continuous failed campaigns in the Betway Premiership, the Soweto giants still boast some of the most valuable players in the entire PSL. * Please note that all of these values are based off of the reported latest player values on Transfermarkt. Yusuf Maart (Amakhosi Captain) – (R20.7 MILLION) Chiefs captain Maart is valued at approximately, $1 million. This equates to almost R21 million (R20.7 million). Thus, making him the most highly valued player in the transfer market. 2. Given Msimango/Reeve Frosler – R18.7 MILLION Interestingly, two under-utilised defenders share the honour of being Amakhosi's second-highest most valuable players. Both centre back, Msimango and right back, Frosler have an estimated market value of $900 000 which equotes to R18.65 million (roughly R18.7 million). 3. Ashley Du Preez – R17.6 MILLION The speedy attacker has blown hot and cold since joining Chiefs from Stellies a few seasons ago. However, whilst his transfer market evaluation has dipped to $850 000 (R17.6 millin), he is still one of the most valuable players at Amakhosi. Moreover, he is also one of the most highly valued players in the PSL today. 4. Mduduzi Shabalala – R14.5 MILLION Mdu Shabalala is one of the fastest-rising young talents in the PSL. A couple of seasons ago he was playing for Amakhosi's DDC side. Now, he is a regular starter in the Chiefs senior side and one of the most valuable players in the PSL. 'Mdu' is valued at $700 000 which is approximately R14.5 million. 5. Rushwin Dortley/Bradley Cross – R13.5 MILLION Both youngsters were recently signed when Nasreddine Nabi took over the reins at Chiefs. So, whilst neither transfer fee was disclosed, we know both players are worth big money. Furthermore, both Dortley and Cross are valued at $R650 000. Meaning, both men have an estimated transfermarkt value of R13.47 million (R13.5 million). Blom was one of the most valuable players before he returned to the United Stated. His market value currently sits at $900 000 (R18.7 million). Thus, mmaking him one of the most valuable players to leave Chiefs in recent seasons. Brutal defender, Inacio Miguel has an estimated market evaluation that sees him worth $600 000 (R12.43 million). Meaning, if any of the players on this list depart from Naturena, Miguel will become one of the top five most valuable players left at Chiefs.
