KENINGAU: The collaboration between the District Education Office and schools here in field of sports reflects the inclusive policy currently being pursued by the State government in line with the aspirations of Sabah Maju Jaya (SMJ). Minister of Youth and Sports, Datuk Ellron Angin, said he wants to see the young generation today not only physically active and competitive but also have strong humanitarian values. 'Both sports and physical education are part of the same education system, though their approaches may differ. 'Sports are based on specific skills, while physical education focuses on the physical development and health of students,' said Ellron when officiating the 2025 Keningau District Schools Sports Council (MSSD) Under-12 Rugby Championship, held at the SK Kg Biah field. In this regard, Ellron expressed his pride in seeing how sports are being used as a platform for unity and character development. 'We are not just building physical strength, but also shaping identity, enhancing mental resilience, and instilling noble values such as discipline, teamwork, mutual respect, and sportsmanship regardless of background and ability,' he said. At the same time, Ellron affirmed his belief that every child has their own potential and unique talents. He said all that is needed is opportunity, and through such tournaments, a space has been created for all students to shine, compete healthily, and learn to collaborate. 'Success will follow with dedicated effort and persistent training,' he added. He also noted that each player has their own strengths, advantages, and unique traits but most importantly, they share a strong fighting spirit. 'Today, these players stand on the same field with one goal to chase success in sports. 'But remember, winning is not everything. What matters more is the courage to try, the spirit to keep challenging oneself, and the resilience not to give up easily,' he added, motivating the crowd. In any situation on the field, on the track, or in life, he urged them never to fear falling, because those who fall and rise again are the true winners. Ellron who is also Sook Assemblyman, concluded with hopes that the success of this year's rugby championship will continue, and that more such initiatives will be implemented across districts throughout the state of Sabah. Meanwhile, Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Ulu Senagang emerged as the cup champion of the 2025 Keningau District Schools Sports Council (MSSD) Under-12 Rugby Championship. The cup runner-up and third place were secured by Biah Attackers B and Kebulu Fighters, respectively. Meanwhile, the fourth place went to Kyubi Rugby Club. In other categories, Biah Attackers A clinched the plate champion title, followed by Cinnamon Titan as the plate runner-up, while Binaong Bison was crowned bowl champion. * Follow us on our official WhatsApp channel and Telegram for breaking news alerts and key updates! * Do you have access to the Daily Express e-paper and online exclusive news?
