Couple shocked to become rare parents to have quadruplets conceived naturally: ‘I didn't think it was gonna be four!'
This family got four times the cuteness. A New Jersey couple has defied the odds, welcoming quadruplets — all conceived naturally. Aja (pronounced Asia) Kennon and her fiancé, Emmanuel Volmar, recently became among the few people in the world to experience such an extraordinary pregnancy earlier this month. Advertisement Kennon and Volmar were excited to expand their family — which already included an 8-year-old son, EJ — when they unexpectedly found out she was pregnant. She assumed that it might be twins because her belly had grown so large, but she was surprised when she saw three heads on the sonogram. 6 The New Jersey couple has defied the odds, welcoming quadruplets — all conceived naturally. Aja Kennon/Instagram 'I didn't think it was gonna be four!' Kennon told The Post. 'This was unexpected.' Advertisement But it was a quartet of distinct heads, confirming a rare event with odds ranging from one-in-700,000 to one-in-a-million, doctors said. And the July 1 delivery itself was an extraordinary event, involving more than 20 medical professionals — each baby with their own dedicated medical crew at Cooperman Barnabas Medical Center in Livingston, New Jersey. 'There was a whole football team in there,' Volmar joked. Kennon easily popped out one healthy baby after the other, each about a minute apart, starting at 10:59 a.m. The miracle babies were all brought home right away, safe and sound. Advertisement The boys — Ean, Evan and Eamon — share the same first initial 'E' with their dad, while the girl, Alayha, shares an 'A' with her mom. 6 The quadruplets — Ean, Evan, Alayha and Eamon — were born the morning of July 1. Aja Kennon/Instagram 6 'I didn't think it was gonna be four!' Kennon told The Post. 'This was unexpected.' With twins running in both her and Volmar's families, it was meant to be — though, because they learned about the quadruplets on April Fools' Day, people didn't believe them at first. Advertisement Perhaps even more shocking, Kennon had no complications during her high-risk pregnancy. She even kept working as a USPS mailwoman full-time until seven months into her pregnancy and thinks all the walking helped. 'I was surprised myself by how easy a pregnancy it was, honestly,' Kennon admitted, sharing that her first pregnancy was a bit more difficult, as EJ needed to be induced. 6 Despite the shock, Kennon embraced the news. Courtesy of Cooperman Barnabas Medical Center Despite the overwhelming nature of raising quadruplets, the couple remains amazingly calm. 'Once we found out that we were having quadruplets, we immediately got the ball rolling. From the moment we found out, we were just, like, 'Okay, let's get the show on the road,'' Kennon said. The couple is now facing a whirlwind of joy and uncertainty as they begin to raise the newborns alongside their elementary schooler. The family, who initially planned for just one more child, quickly had to adjust to the reality of four cribs, quadruple the diapers — and an entirely new life. Advertisement They've also decided to delay a wedding until all their children can walk down the aisle and participate. But, thanks to their pre-planning and support system — Volmar's mother has fortunately moved in for now — they've jumped into parenting five children quite easily. Reality check: Dad does admit that the feeding schedule is especially demanding. 'It's never-ending, and then before you know it, it's time to feed them again,' Volmar told The Post. Advertisement But even EJ has happily stepped up, offering to feed the babies and change their diapers. And while he loves all his siblings equally, but has a special place in his heart for his sister. 'He's very delicate with his sister, like he'll make sure he kisses her on the head,' Kennon shared. To help with the financial burden, the family has launched a GoFundMe campaign to cover medical expenses, transportation and the costs associated with caring for quadruplets. 'We are overjoyed, filled with love and gratitude — but we'd be lying if we said we weren't overwhelmed, too,' Kennon wrote on the page. Courtesy of Cooperman Barnabas Medical Center Their community has rallied around them as the news has spread. New Jersey area mom Facebook groups have flooded the comments of posts sharing the news. One woman whom Kennon hasn't spoken to since high school even reached out and asked to coordinate a meal train to help out. Fortunately, thanks to their pre-planning and local support, they've settled into parenting five children very well. Advertisement According to BECU and the National Diaper Bank Network, they'll likely spend about $4,000 a year on diapers alone. But luckily, they haven't even needed to buy diapers or wipes yet: They have a closet filled with supplies — all donated or gifted. 'Everybody's as shocked as we were when we found out,' Kennon said, joking, 'We're pretty much the center of attention.'

New Parents of Quadruplets, 3 Boys and 1 Girl, Share Sweet Inspiration Behind Their Names
A doctor at the hospital where Aja Kennon delivered four healthy babies said the odds of naturally conceiving quadruplets is about one in 700,000 Aja Kennon's ultrasound technician couldn't believe what she was seeing during their appointment. "She brings in another doctor, and I hear her counting like one, two, three, and then she says four," Kennon, 33, tells PEOPLE. After learning she expecting quadruplets, Aja says she couldn't help but hope that at least one would be a girl — and sure enough, she soon learned she was pregnant with one girl and three boys. Of course, learning their family of three — the couple also shares an 8-year-old son — was about to become a family of seven was quite a surprise. In fact, Aja's fiancé says he "thought it was all a joke" at first. "I was just in shock, I couldn't believe it," says Emmanuel Volmar, 37. To be fair, the news did come around April Fool's Day. The PEOPLE Puzzler crossword is here! How quickly can you solve it? Play now! Dr. Joanne Bishara, Director of Neonatology at Cooperman Barnabas Medical Center in Livingston, N.J., where the babies were delivered, says the odds of naturally conceiving quadruplets are about 1 in 700,000. Kennon was 34 weeks pregnant when it was time to welcome her babies into the world on Tuesday, July 1. Although walking into the hospital room for her C-section was "nerve-wracking," everything went well. Three of the babies were born weighing more than 4 lbs, while the fourth weighed over 5 lbs. "They all came out spontaneously breathing and doing well," Dr. Bishara says. "I do think this is all God's work, for sure." As for their names, the proud parents found a way to share the love, naming the boys Ean, Evan and Eamon — all names that start with the letter E, just like their dad's name — while they chose Alayha for their baby girl, a nod to the first letter of her mom's name. The PEOPLE Puzzler crossword is here! How quickly can you solve it? Play now! Although there's no shortage of love at home, the parents say there is one thing that's been in short supply lately: sleep. "You close your eyes and got to open them right back up," Volmar says. Still, the quadruplets are fitting right in at home alongside their big brother Emmanuel Jr., 8, who is already attuned to their needs. "He's like, 'Oh, is it time for them to eat? Or is it time to change their diaper?" Kennon says. "So he definitely wants to be involved." Kennon Lumber Co. opens in Elgin
ELGIN — A new retail lumber store is opening in Elgin. The Union County Chamber of Commerce hosts a ribbon-cutting to mark the opening of Kennon Lumber Co., 810 Inkwood St., Elgin. The ceremony is at 9 a.m. Saturday, April 5. More details will be available on Kennon's Facebook page. 'The public is warmly invited to attend our soft opening and browse through our beautiful showroom and outside planter displays,' Tyler Kennon, sole proprietor said. 'Every wall inside our building will display the cedar products that we offer.' There will be a drawing that day so the public may enter their names for the door prize, a fully assembled cedar planter with lattice valued at $150. The winner of the prize will be announced at 5 p.m. on Kennon's Facebook page. After the soft opening, normal business hours will be Tuesday through Saturday 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., and he will adjust that as needed. The store number is 541-805-1190. 'My hope is that the business can keep busy enough so that he can employ a couple of people and be open six days a week and regular business hours,' he said. Kennon hails from La Grande, and in February, he purchased the 4,000 square-foot building on 3.8 acres on Inkwood Street from Elgin High School. Kennon Lumber occupies half of the building. 'We'll see how things go after the first year in business,' Kennon said. 'Then we might get another retailer in the other half of the building, maybe someone who deals with farm feed and hardware. If that can happen, that would be great because right now people in Elgin have to travel to La Grande to buy a box of screws.' He said he has worked with lumber his entire life, but as far as the retail side of lumber is concerned, this venture is a first for him. 'Prior to this, I worked as a handyman, small contractor doing building maintenance for a lot of AirBNBs and commercial structures,' Kennon said. 'I'm also a farmer, rancher, horse rider — all of those things, and I have livestock and horses.' Kennon and his wife, Kylie, and children relocated from La Grande to 40 acres on Cricket Flat, where they live in a 750 square foot cabin 'that is fully sided in our cedar siding,' Kennon said. Kennon has a private investor, formerly from Union County, who owns and operates a lumber mill in Northern California. This mill supplies Kennon Lumber Co. with cedar, pine and fir wood products. 'We can do custom orders, and I can submit them to the mill and have it up here in a couple of weeks,' Kennon said. 'That's interesting to bring up here because I do not see any real wood siding up here anymore, and I'd really like to bring some of it back.' The couple also involve their son, Seth Kennon, in their family business. He makes the cedar picnic tables that are for sale at Kennon Lumber Company and manages the store at times. 'He is homeschooled, a math whiz, and a talented craftsman,' his father said. In the future, Kennon Lumber Co. will create a website with a full catalog listing of products and pictures of all its wood products. 'I would say that about 75% of what I have will be cedar products of all sorts, including all kinds of cedar fencing in every shape, form, thickness and size,' Kennon said. He also will sell cedar dimensional lumber and all kinds of cedar siding, interior and exterior that a builder or contractor would possibly want. Kennon Lumber also will sell some blue stained pine, some board and batten pine, and some fir products, but the majority, Kennon said, will be cedar siding and interior wall finishes. The California mill will send Kennon its off-cuts, in-cuts, and scrap pieces so that Kennon and his son can build furniture, including planter boxes, Adirondack chairs, benches, swings, picnic tables and chicken coops. Cedar is a popular choice of lumber because it is insect resistant and rot resistant. 'We're big in the gardening and greenhouse stuff, too,' Kennon said. 'Because we're making these things out of smaller pieces from the mill, we can build these things more affordably.' The inventory is rolling in. Kennon had 10 loads of lumber in from the California mill coming in before April 5. He will see how the first six months of business goes and order more inventory if needed. Inside the store, its walls are covered with sample displays of cedar paneling and siding for homes and cabin construction. Kennon sells cedar cabins that buyers can put together because they are notched and pre-drilled. They are ideal for small sheds, accessory dwelling units and custom ordered larger sizes of cabins. He offers delivery of orders to builders and contractors on site when requested. For more information about Kennon Lumber Co.'s lumber products, call or text at 541-805-1190 or use Facebook Messenger or email at kennonlumber@ 'We'd like to invite the public to come in, meet us and see our showroom,' Kennon said.
