Celtic skipper Callum McGregor on those Scottish Cup final tears and why he's started CAR SHARING with Brendan Rodgers

Instead, Callum McGregor was left with tears for souvenirs. 7 Callum McGregor collects his medal Credit: Kenny Ramsay 7 Callum McGregor is consoled by Brendan Rodgers at the end Credit: Kenny Ramsay 7 Callum McGregor after his penalty miss Credit: Kenny Ramsay But the Celtic skipper reckons getting emotional after losing a dramatic Scottish Cup final penalty shootout to Aberdeen shows just how much the club means to him. He said: 'I think people think that we're robots. 'But we're not robots, we're human beings. 'And I think if anybody didn't know how much this club means to me before, then they probably do now.' McGregor was consoled by Brendan Rodgers out on the pitch as he bawled his eyes out, having been one of the guys who stepped up and missed, as he selflessly APOLOGISED to his gaffer. He added: 'You can't turn the tap on and off. 'It's a 24-hour thing that you live with every single day. 'And my job is to make this club successful. 'So when that doesn't happen, you feel responsible. 'With the position you're in, you take the pressure, you take the responsibility. And it goes all the way through your life. 'You can't just switch it off. Celtic star Daizen Maeda spotted doing press-ups in technical area after being subbed-off against Sporting Lisbon 'So it's a big pressure, but it's something I like and it's something I've thrived under and been successful more often than not. 'But when you have a sore one, it's a reminder of how you need to keep pushing, keep learning and keep getting better. 'And you hopefully minimise those down days. 'With someone like the manager, when something like that happens, you feel like you've let him down. 'You also feel like you've let the team, down and the you've let the club down. 'Like I say, you hold that responsibility so you can't just switch it off. You feel responsible in the good days ands you feel responsible in the bad days as well. 'That's something I'm quite proud of, that I take so much pride in what I'm doing.' McGregor's tears dried up but the agony he felt lasted for weeks after the cup final defeat. He added: 'Everybody went away on holiday. 'But you don't start enjoying your holiday, probably, until a couple of weeks after it. 'My family and the people close to me, they are there to support me in those times. They love you unconditionally of course, no matter what happens in the football pitch. 7 Callum McGregor is back in stride - playing almost every minute Credit: Kenny Ramsay 'Having their support in the immediate aftermath was very important because they're the ones who pick you back up and level you off. 'You're as low as can be, really. 'It's my whole life, it's my profession. It's what I pride myself on. So when you have a bad day you can't help but carry it with you for days and days and days.' McGregor's tight relationship with Rodgers was there for all to see as they embraced out on the Hampden pitch. Now the 32 year-old is eager to make the most of that by gleaning as much knowledge as he can from his gaffer as he weighs up what's next for him when the day comes for him to hang up his boots. He added: 'We just got chatting in the car about that on the way to this press conference. 'We talk about football all the time anyway. 'He was asking what I fancy doing after I finish playing, not that he was trying to retire me or anything! 'That's still a few years down the line. 'But I've always been involved in football, it's pretty much all I know. And I want to continue to be involved in that, whether that be coaching or managing. 7 Callum McGregor, Nicolas Kuhn and Jeffrey Schlupp at the end Credit: Kenny Ramsay 'You don't quite know what's in store for you. 'But I certainly want to stay in football. 'The next progression would be to do my badges and see how I like it. Then you just never know from there. 'But in terms of the chat with the manager, I think we often take things for granted. 'I was there sharing the car with the gaffer on the way to the stadium and this is a guy who managed Liverpool and managed at Leicester and Celtic. 'That's invaluable information that people may never get to listen to. Even if nothing comes of it, there was a conversation that gave me an opportunity to learn. 'You learn from everything you see. 'We have guys coming into the building and other guys who have been there for years. 'Your job is never finished. 'But the conversation was one that not many people would ever get access to. 'He's got a very mentorship style, he loves helping players. 'He did that with me when we first met each other. 'It's been an amazing relations and something that's been nurtured over time. We have a really good understanding with each other and what makes us tick is very similar. 'Over time the relationship grows and grows and I am really thankful to have someone like that in my career to try and help me as much as he can. 7 'As a player, you just never know how things are going to pan out. 'With sports science these days, everybody is preparing better, eating better and sleeping better. 'You just never know how long you've got left. 'You can try and earmark what you think but it may be longer than that and it may be shorter than that. 'You come back preseason, get fit, feel good. 7 'I am going to continue to play and push my body as much as I possibly can. But at some point, that day will come. 'You want to be ready for that so you can decide what you do next. 'For now, another full season is coming with a lot of minutes and a lot of games. But I feel good. I feel like my body has been used to it for the last eight or nine years. 'I always say to players, get into rhythm. 'Now for me it's just normal. I don't really think about too much. I know what my body needs and I just keep churning out games.' Keep up to date with ALL the latest news and transfers at the Scottish Sun football page

Former Celtic star Jeffrey Schlupp ‘poised to find new club' as veteran free agent attracts interest

And now the BBC are among outlets reporting that Norwich City are set to snap the player up on a free transfer. Schlupp made 18 appearances in all for Celtic including a standout display away to Bayern Munich in the Champions League. But now he's set to pen a deal with the Canaries under new boss Liam Manning. Utility man Schlupp, 32, said back in March he'd consider anything Celts were prepared to offer him - but admitted there had been no talks over a deal for next season. He said: "Regarding next season, nothing has been spoken about. "I had to think seriously about coming here in the first place, and anything that happens in the summer will be a big decision for me too — but we'll see what happens." Norwich are also keen on Celtic winger Yang, who could arrive on a loan deal from Parkhead. They're in the market for a new winger after losing star man Borja Sainz in a mega money deal. The East Anglian side made an incredible profit on Spanish winger Sainz who they signed on a free transfer from Turkish side Giresunspor in 2023. Celtic star Daizen Maeda spotted doing press-ups in technical area after being subbed-off against Sporting Lisbon But the Hoops have let Nicolas Kuhn join Como for £17m while Luis Palma has joined Lech Poznan on a season-long loan. Jota is out long-term - although the Hoops have added Benjamin Nygren, who can operate out wide or in the No 10 role. 3 Keep up to date with ALL the latest news and transfers at the Scottish Sun football page

But the third consecutive League Cup win was marred by shocking scenes after full-time. Both clubs have confirmed that Police Scotland are dealing with an incident which left the young supporter injured. It's being widely suggested online that young Queen of the South fans were targeted and had their drum nicked by Thistle supporters. It's claimed one of the Queen of the South fans sustained a head injury in the altercation. The individual was treated by Partick Thistle's medical team inside the stadium and the club have since admitted that players and staff were shocked by the incident. A statement read: "Players and officials of Partick Thistle were appalled at the incident that occurred after the final whistle in last night's game with Queen of the South at The Wyre Stadium at Firhill. "We thank the group of home and away fans that came to the assistance of the young visiting supporter in the aftermath and also thank our first team medical staff who applied treatment in the club's physio department. "Queen of the South have provided an update this morning and we are pleased to hear that the young person involved is doing well and echo their wishes for a speedy recovery. "The matter is now in the hands of Police Scotland." Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) A FORMER SPFL footballer who was jailed for his involvement in smuggling drugs into the UK has found a new football club. Ex-Aberdeen, Livingston and Morton striker Jay Emmanuel-Thomas was released on parole last week just weeks after being handed a four-year sentence. 3 Jay Emmanuel-Thomas played for Morton Credit: Kenny Ramsay 3 The striker also played for Aberdeen Credit: Getty 3 Jay Emmanuel-Thomas in the colours of AF Totten Credit: In all he served ten months after being remanded last September and sentenced in June for his involvement in a £600,000 drug smuggling plot. The ex-footballer was arrested in Gourock in September 2024 after officers from the National Crime Agency (NCA) seized 60 kilograms of cannabis being brought through London's Stansted Airport by two women he had recruited – his girlfriend and her friend. Last month, he pleaded guilty at Chelmsford Crown Court to fraudulent evasion of the prohibition on the importation of cannabis between July 1, 2024 and September 2, 2024. After his release last week he pleaded for an opportunity to return to Championship side Morton after being sacked by the club when he was arrested back in September last year. He posted on social media: "Apologies to all affiliated with Greenock Morton. "I let you guys down big time, hopefully you can forgive me. "If the chance comes along I will right my wrongs but that will be up to the club, if it does not I wish you all the best and thank you." Judge Alexander Mills said at the time: "It is through your own actions you will no longer be known as a professional footballer. "You will be known as a criminal. A professional footballer who threw it all away." Now though English National League South side AFC Totton have revealed he has signed for the club. A statement from AFC Totton added: "We are absolutely delighted to welcome Jay Emmanuel-Thomas to the club. "Jay joins us with a wealth of experience in the Championship and we're sure his goals will lead to a successful season here on the South Coast!" Celtic star Yang to seal EFL Championship move as Hoops clear decks by letting THIRD winger leave with Jota injured

Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) CELTIC continue to make room for squad improvements this summer with Yang the latest fringe man poised to leave the club. The South Korean winger has been pictured wearing a Norwich City strip this evening and SunSport understands that an initial loan deal to the East Anglia side is set to go through imminently. Sign up for the Celtic newsletter Sign up 3 Yang celebrates his goal against Newcastle Credit: Kenny Ramsay 3 Yang has been spotted in the colours of Norwich City We told you last week how Norwich were a likely destination for the player. He'll follow Nicolas Kuhn, who joined Como on a permanent deal this summer, and Luis Palma, who's on the move to Lech Poznan on loan, on the way out of Parkhead this summer. He'll also likely be joined going out the exit door by another winger in the form of Aussie star Marco Tilio, who has been strongly linked with a move to Rapid Vienna - while big money recruit Jota is out injured for several months. Yang, 23, moved to Celtic two years ago in a £2million deal from Gangwon in his homeland. He appeared 34 times across all competitions last season, just nine of those were league starts. In total, Yang has featured 65 times for the Hoops and scored seven goals. Brendan Rodgers has added Benjamin Nygren but is still hoping to add to his wide options this transfer window. Antwerp's Michel-Ange Balikwisha has been a long term target and the departure of Yang could pave the way for his arrival. The Canaries are in the market for a new winger after losing star man Borja Sainz in a mega money deal. Norwich have made an incredible profit on Spanish winger Sainz who they signed on a free transfer from Turkish side Giresunspor in 2023. Former Celtic star Greg Taylor stuns PAOK team-mates as he belts out Abba tune for his initiation song And SunSport understands that Yang is the man they think can fill that void. 3 Keep up to date with ALL the latest news and transfers at the Scottish Sun football page
