Anupamaa's Sudhanshu Pandey Says He Grew Up In A 30-Room Haveli: 'We Were Middle Class'
Last Updated: Sudhanshu Pandey shares how growing up with middle-class values in a 30-room mansion in Gorakhpur shaped his journey in showbiz. Sudhanshu Pandey has been part of the entertainment world for decades, trying his hand at modeling, music, acting, and even reality TV. While he was recently seen in The Traitors on Amazon Prime Video, where he made it to the finale, Sudhanshu says it's his upbringing that's kept him grounded all these years. In a conversation featured on Varinder Chawla's YouTube channel, Sudhanshu was asked how he manages to stay humble despite his success. He pointed to his upbringing and background. 'I think the biggest strength for people like me is the background we come from and that background is a very simple, middle-class background. I have always felt that has been my strength because I have known my reality. I know where I come from and where I belong," he said. Sudhanshu also shared that although his family lived in a large home in Gorakhpur, their lifestyle remained simple. 'My parental house was in a place called Gorakhpur. We are originally from Uttarakhand but my parental house was in Gorakhpur and it was a 30-room haveli. We used to have cows so I came from that background. Yet, we were all middle-class simple people," he revealed. The actor believes the way his parents raised him played a huge role in shaping who he is today. 'The simplicity that came to me from my parents and our life, was so basic and simple that that is what my foundation was. And I think because that foundation was so strong, it never let me get shaken up at any given point in life." Sudhanshu Pandey began his career as a model before transitioning into films and television. He made his Bollywood debut in Khiladi 420 (2000) and went on to appear in movies like Singh Is Kinng, Dus Kahaniyaan, Siyaasat, and Bypass Road. He was also part of India's first boy band, A Band of Boys, known for hits like Meri Neend. On television, his most notable role has been Vanraj Shah in Anupamaa. He also featured in web series like The Empire and The Traitors on Amazon Prime Video, where he reached the finale. She said, 'I had met Aishwarya I think, in Bombay when I had visited Ashok Salim's studio. He was a very big photographer in Bombay. I had visited his studio just after my first campaign and I had come to shoot my second campaign, which was for Nivea Cream. And I met Aishwarya and Mahima both; they were shooting for Pepsi. Also, another iconic brand, Nivea." According to Sudhanshu Pandey, Aishwarya Rai asked him to shift to Mumbai during the meeting. The actor recalled, 'She was very appreciative and I remember seeing some interview where she said that, you know, somebody asked, so who do you think is the next big thing? And she said, Sudhanshu, you know, I feel is the next big thing which was a very good thing because she was, she had started before I did. She was a little senior to me, maybe a year or two." Sudhanshu Pandey recently won hearts with his stint in The Traitors. His space reflects his personality—calm, rooted, and spiritually inclined. Among the many highlights of his serene home is a unique Mahadev-themed art piece that holds deep emotional value for him. The actor revealed that the centerpiece was a heartfelt gift from his Anupamaa co-star Arvind Vaidya , who plays Vanraj's on-screen father, Bapuji. 'This art piece was given to me by my Bapuji. He played my father in Anupamaa. Aunty and he gifted me this,' Sudhanshu shared with pride and affection. The Mahadev fountain, with its continuous flow of water, has a special mechanism that mimics an abhishek. 'The best part is that 24x7 abhishek hoti rehti hai, constantly water is flowing. It's a fountain type mechanism. It is a very positive thing,' he explained, adding how the sacred corner in his house brings him peace and a sense of grounding. A vastu specialist also painted a special wall hanging near the corner to enhance the space's spiritual energy. Beyond his spiritual side, Sudhanshu Pandey's career is as layered as the characters he plays. He started as a model and was also a member of the first Indian boy band A Band of Boys. According to him, sanskaar helps distinguish between parents, elders, siblings, and friends, and if everyone were spoken to in the same disrespectful manner, it would blur these important distinctions and undermine the fabric of society.
