Lane Kiffin: New York Giants' Jaxson Dart is the total package

What are the New York Giants getting in rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart? Well, his former college coach at Ole Miss, Lane Kiffin, believes Big Blue could be getting an elite player. Kiffin, who coached Dart for three seasons at Ole Miss, sees him as the "complete package" who is a "quick learner." "If he is struggling with something, he's going to find a way. He's going to stay after. He's going to do whatever it takes," Kiffin said in a recent appearance on the Giants Huddle podcast. Kiffin also said that Dart is excellent at processing large chunks of information very quickly. "I think for some that can be too much information because we're 'chunking' him a lot of information," Kiffin said. "And most of our plays are snapped before 15 [seconds on the play clock], so he's getting a lot of information right up to the snap. He was great with that." Kiffin said that Dart has a lot of Eli Manning in him, but also has an aggressive element to his game. His father was a defensive player at Utah, and Dart sometimes opts to take unnecessary hits rather than live to play another day. "We worked with him a lot on that," Kiffin said. "That takes some time to get out of him. It'll still show up once in a while, but he's learned to play times throughout the week, he's very calm." The Giants plan on bringing Dart along slowly, as there is no need to throw him to the lions right away. They have two veteran quarterbacks in front of him in Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston, and will not play Dart until the time is right.

Lane Kiffin tries recruiting ‘Catfish Girl' to Ole Miss after her sudden X return

It's a bold strategy, let's see if it pays off for him. Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin shot his shot at social media influencer Hannah Barron in what can only be described as a half-court, low-percentage type of shot. Barron is a 29-year-old known for her wild outdoor adventures, particularly her 'catfish noodling,' which involves wrangling and capturing catfish with her bare hands, using her hands and arms as bait before wrestling the fish out of the water. Advertisement While 'The Catfish Girl' has about 8 million followers across all her social media platforms, her use on X is rather sparse, and her posts on July 13 were her first on the app since early December. 3 Lane Kiffin has coached Ole Miss since 2020. AP Advertisement And her first day back on the app was when Kiffin took his opportunity to strike. '#ComeToTheSip,' Kiffin replied to her post of some of her best catfish catches of the past year. Barron hails from Alabama, and Kiffin's post was his best attempt at getting her to 'come to Mississippi,' using the Rebels' catchphrase often used for recruiting players: 'Come to the 'Sip.' Kiffin was promptly roasted in his comments, as fans called out the 50-year-old for his attempt at recruiting the 29-year-old influencer out of Alabama. Advertisement 'How the f–k does a grown man employed by a public university type this out and say 'yeah this is it,'' one user wrote. 'You know what I love about being a college football coach?' another user wrote in a mockery of Kiffin. 'I keep gettin' older, but the ladies stay the same age.' 'Lane [Kiffin's] sexual desires know no bounds,' another comment read. One commenter respected the move from Ole Miss head coach, saying, 'Thank you for existing, Coach.' As for Barron, she kept her reply simple. '#RollTide,' she wrote, invoking the ubiquitous Alabama catchphrase.

Lane Kiffin: College or NFL, I think Nick Saban will be back

Nick Saban's Alabama tenure came to an end last offseason when the seven-time National Champion head coach elected to retire. But one of Saban's former assistants thinks the 73-year-old Saban will make his way back to a sideline at some point. Speaking to reporters at SEC Media Days on Monday, current Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin was asked if he would hire Saban if his former boss wanted back in the game. 'He's not going to need me to hire him,' Kiffin said, via Sam Hutchens of the Mississippi Clarion Ledger. 'I don't think he's done. I think he'll be back. Whether that's college or NFL, I think he'll be back.' Kiffin worked under Saban at Alabama from 2014-2016 as the program's offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach. The two won a National Championship together to cap the 2015 season. Saban was famously the Dolphins head coach from 2005-2006 before taking the Alabama job. His other NFL experience came as the Houston Oilers defensive backs coach from 1988-1898 and the Browns' defensive coordinator under Bill Belichick from 1991-1994. Kiffin was the Raiders coach from 2007-2008, lasting just four games into his second season before he was fired.

Ole Miss Makes Big Football Announcement on Monday

Ole Miss Makes Big Football Announcement on Monday originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Ole Miss football program has been completely revitalized over the last five seasons under the leadership of head coach Lane Kiffin. Advertisement Before Kiffin took over, the team endured a four-year postseason drought. However, the team has qualified for five straight bowl games and won three since Kiffin accepted the job before the 2020 college football season. Ole Miss has also become a launching point for many NFL careers, as the Rebels had eight players selected in the 2025 NFL Draft. Another 12 signed as undrafted free agents, so 20 total players from last year's team are currently on NFL rosters. Former Ole Miss QB Jaxson Dart (left) with head coach Lane Kiffin (right).Matt Bush-Imagn Images On Monday, the program made the big announcement that their 2025 season tickets had sold out. This is the eighth time that season tickets have sold out in the modern era of Rebels football. Advertisement The Rebels will be a completely new-look team in 2025, as three-year starting quarterback Jaxson Dart is now with the New York Giants in the NFL. Sophomore Austin Simmons, who has 282 career passing yards and two touchdowns, is expected to take his place. Star wide receiver Tre Harris and cornerback Trey Amos were both drafted, and the entire starting defensive line from last year's team moved on to the NFL this offseason as well. All eyes will be on Princewill Umanmielen and Suntarine Perkins to wreak havoc for the Rebels' defense. Five-star freshman wide receiver Caleb Cunningham should contribute right away as a pass-catcher. Ole Miss will play a total of eight games at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium in Oxford, Mississippi this season. They will open up the 2025 campaign at home against Georgia State on August 30, then they will have a four-game home stand from September 13 to October 11. Four-star OL Ryan Miret picks Ole Miss after visit, shuts down recruitment

Ryan Miret was on the busy-June track of taking official visits all month long and making a decision thereafter. After his weekend at Ole Miss, though, there has been a big change of plans. Not only is the Miami (Fla.) Southridge offensive lineman electing to commit to Lane Kiffin's program, but the remainder of his official visits will be canceled in the process. Advertisement Miret has shut it down. "I had been to Ole Miss previously, so I was able to see everything already," he told Rivals. "So this trip I was able to get to know the staff more. Their offensive staff is superior to any offensive staff that I've met with, in my opinion, as far as NFL experience. Pretty much every coach on the offense has either played or coached in the NFL. "Coach (John) Garrison has had his own room for 21 years, I feel like that's a huge advantage. He's been around forever. And It's SEC, you know? It's the highest level of play in college football. It's where the most NFL players get drafted from. That's pretty big." The blue-chip blocker's time in Oxford ended with a pledge to Kiffin on Sunday and it took the longtime coach and part of the family by surprise simultaneously. Advertisement "I told my dad and he was cool with it, he was surprised," Miret said. "I didn't tell my mom or my sister, they found out when Coach Kiffin and Coach Garrison found out. They were freaking out. "Coach Kiffin said he wasn't expecting that at was a big surprise. Also Kevin Smith was super happy, he's a Southridge alumni as well, so he's happy to have someone from there coming to Ole Miss." Garrison spearheaded the late rise and win for the latest Rebel recruit, who wrapped up his spring season with a wrestling state championship in the Sunshine State. Advertisement The activity on the current roster also presents a potential underclassman opportunity for Miret. "They have a great plan for me," he said. "They don't really have a true second guy (at center) so they kind of told me I would have a chance to potentially come in early and getting into rotations my freshman and sophomore year. "They also had the number one gonna run the ball, pass the ball, do everything. Plus the fact that they run tempo -- that fits me, too. Miami Southridge runs a tempo offense, so I'll be coming in ready." Official visits to Miami and Georgia Tech were to be taken in the coming week, but those trips are off. Nebraska hosted Miret for an official visit two weekends ago. Advertisement "This was an extremely hard decision," he said. "I love Nebraska, too, but I feel like Ole Miss has the best plan for me. I'm ready to go. I've seen enough. The culture at Ole Miss, the history they have is big, they've been around forever. They have a really big fan base so playing at that stadium is going to be pretty freaking exciting. "I'm ready to work. I'm ready to put in the work and be great. Hotty Toddy!"
