Steady growth after a modest start Released last Friday, 'Junior' opened to Rs 1.5 crore net in India. The Telugu version alone brought in Rs 1.3 crore, while the Kannada version added Rs 20 lakh. Though the start was modest, the weekend saw decent growth. On Saturday, the film collected Rs 1.8 crore around a 20% jump from Friday. The momentum continued on Sunday, as the earnings went up to Rs 2.2 crore, a rise of 22.22%. However, Monday brought a drop, with the film earning Rs 87 lakh, a fall of 60.45% from Sunday. At its heart, the film is about parenting, misunderstood love, redemption, and the aching need to reconnect across generations. The story begins on an almost offbeat note. Kodandapani (Ravichandran) and Shyamala (Sudharani), an elderly couple residing in Vijayanagara, stun their conservative neighbourhood by expecting a child late in life. According to Ramesh Bala, a trade analyst, the film may premiere on Prime Video after its theatrical run. 'Junior is a film with a newcomer in the lead. Moreover, it has names who are popular in Telugu like Sreeleela in key roles. Given the trend, it may land on Prime Video after its run in theatres,' he told Indiatimes. Bala further added that Junior may premiere on OTT four weeks after its run in theatres. Junior plot and cast Junior is a romantic drama directed by Radha Krishna Reddy in Telugu and Kannada. It centres on Abhi, a carefree college student, as he develops feelings for Spoorthi shortly after he begins an internship with a no-nonsense professional, Vijaya Soujanya. He soon discovers that she is connected to his own father and helps Vijaya rediscover her roots. The rest of the story centres on the unexpected changes that take place in their lives during the journey. Junior stars debutant Kireeti Reddy in the lead and has the potential to be a game-changer for him. He is paired opposite Sreeleela in the flick. She is best known for her 'special appearance' in Pushpa 2. Genelia essays a key role in the film. Junior was to be her comeback vehicle but it got delayed and Sitaare Zameen Par took the honour. Junior to take a 'low' start at the box office Bala said Junior is set to take a slow start at the box office as it is headlined by a debutant. He, however, refused to give a prediction. 'See, this is a film with a rank newcomer. So, I don't think I can give a figure as such. However, the opening will be low. It will be on the lower end,' he said.
