Guv: Agri education must be in sync with rural requirements

1 2 Lucknow: Urging researchers to ensure that agricultural education is in sync with rural requirements, governor Anandiben Patel said even as the state had five agricultural universities in order to provide meaningful education these must understand the needs, problems, and priorities of rural India. Addressing students and faculty at the 11th convocation of the IVRI in Bareilly on Monday, Patel called for greater engagement between universities and nearby villages, stating that such outreach reflects the true purpose of education. Referring to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision for quality education, Patel said that universities must strive to meet global standards. As part of that vision, she said, the Agricultural University in Ayodhya had earned an A+ grade from NAAC while Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Agricultural University in Meerut had secured an A grade. "Agriculture and animal husbandry are employment-generating sectors. Full utilisation of schemes and budgets related to these areas can help fulfil the needs of farmers, women, and livestock owners," she said. Giving the example of Gujarat's 2003 Krishi Rath Yatra, she said direct engagement with farmers forms the basis of transformation. "During that journey, scientists, professors, and researchers personally interacted with farmers, understood their challenges, and brought revolutionary reforms in agricultural system," she said.
