Bahrain name 28-man squad for Slovenia camp
Bahrain have announced a 28-man squad for their upcoming training camp in Slovenia, set to run from July 10 to July 24. Bahrain are coming off a disappointing World Cup qualifying campaign where they finished bottom of their group. The camp will include multiple training sessions and friendly fixtures as Bahrain gear up for upcoming challenges under the direction of head coach Dragan Talajic. That includes building towards the FIFA Arab Cup, which takes place from December 1–18 in Qatar, across six FIFA World Cup venues. Mohamed Marhoon will miss the camp after finalising a move to Kuwait SC, signing a threeyear deal with the Kuwaiti Premier League club.

Salmiya bag bronze after beating Kazma in high-tempo third-place match KUWAIT: In a thrilling end to the local handball season, Kuwait SC snatched a dramatic 30-29 victory over Qadsiya in the final of the 2024–2025 Kuwait Handball Federation Cup, claiming the title for the 15th time in its history — and for the 12th consecutive season. The final showdown, held at Sheikh Saad Al-Abdullah Indoor Sports Hall, drew a packed crowd and delivered action from the very first seconds. Both teams came out strong, exchanging goals rapidly and matching each other's energy, leaving the first half deadlocked at 18-18. The second half started off tight, with neither team able to break the silence for six full minutes — a testament to the intensity of the match. Qadsiya finally found the net, sparking a fresh wave of goals from both sides. But as the clock ticked down to the final second, Kuwait edged ahead by a single goal to seal the title. 'This win didn't come out of nowhere,' said Kuwait SC Chairman Khaled Al-Ghanim after the match. 'It's the result of strong teamwork that made our club a force on the local scene, consistently lifting trophies like today's Handball Federation Cup.' He credited the club's ongoing success to the combined efforts of its players, staff, and fans, describing the supporters as 'the strongest and most important part of our journey.' Al-Ghanim also thanked Minister of Information and Culture and Minister of State for Youth Affairs Abdulrahman Al-Mutairi for his support of Kuwaiti sports and for highlighting local achievements through media coverage. He also praised Qadsiya for their strong performance and sportsmanship. In the third-place playoff, Salmiya defeated Kazma 34-28 in a fast-paced game. Salmiya led narrowly at halftime (15-13), and while Kazma mounted a comeback early in the second half, unforced errors saw them fall behind again, allowing Salmiya to secure the bronze. As the curtain falls on the 2024–2025 handball season, national team manager Abdulaziz Al-Zaabi reflected on what he called one of the longest seasons in Kuwaiti handball history. 'The repeated pauses for international duties and other interruptions drained the competition's momentum,' he told KUNA. 'Players struggled with fitness and mental fatigue.' Al-Zaabi pointed out that the league format also contributed to the issue. 'The competition essentially ended after the first phase of the Premier League, which made the rest of the season feel like a formality. The federation has taken note and plans changes next season.' Looking ahead, he emphasized a renewed focus on developing local talent. 'Clubs are increasingly prioritizing youth players and giving them real playing time,' he said. Both clubs finalized their squads following the return of their international players. Kuwait SC's delegation returned from Seoul after concluding their campaign in the 2026 World Cup Asian qualifiers, while Al-Arabi welcomed back its national team stars as well. Kuwait Club players returning: Saud Al-Hoshan, Fahad Al-Hajri, Ahmed Al-Dhafiri, Ahmed Al-Zanki, Youssef Nasser, Mohammed Daham, Reda Hani, Mishari Ghannam. Al-Arabi players returning: Suleiman Abdul Ghafoor, Abdul Wahab Al-Awadhi Hassan Hamdan, Mohammed Al-Nassar, Hussein Ashkanani, Youssef Majed. Uncertainty surrounds the participation of Youssef Nasser and Hassan Hamdan in the final. Nasser suffered an injury during Kuwait's recent match against South Korea and did not complete the game, while Hamdan was sidelined entirely. Kuwait Club is chasing a historic domestic quadruple, having already secured the Zain Premier League, Crown Prince Cup, and Super Cup this season. A win in the Amir Cup final would cap off a dominant campaign. Al-Arabi, on the other hand, is aiming for redemption after finishing as runner-up in both the league and the Crown Prince Cup. Despite the setbacks, the club recently made a notable jump of 57 spots in the IFFHS global club rankings, now sitting at 411th worldwide and leading all Kuwaiti clubs. Marhoun set to stay at Kuwait Club for two more seasons
KUWAIT CITY, June 2: Kuwait Club has reached a renewed agreement with Bahraini professional Mohammed Marhoun, extending his contract for an additional two seasons. Negotiations between both parties have successfully concluded on nearly all terms, with only the official announcement pending. Marhoun delivered an impressive season with the Whites, often playing a decisive role and emerging as a match-winner on several occasions. Once confirmed, Marhoun's renewal would mark Kuwait SC's second official move of the offseason, following the extension of Congolese defender Arsène Zola (Malik), who will also continue with the team next season. Meanwhile, the club has opted to postpone any decision regarding Tunisian striker Yassine Khenissi until after the Amir's Cup final against Al-Arabi on June 16. As for Moroccan duo Amin Abu Al-Fath and Yahya Jabrane, both players are close to finalizing moves to Wydad Casablanca. Negotiations with the Moroccan club have progressed significantly, with most contractual terms agreed upon, paving the way for a potential transfer before the start of the upcoming season.

Arabi beat Salmiya to set Amir Cup final date with Kuwait KUWAIT: Al-Arabi beat Salmiya 1-0 to qualify for the Amir Cup final, where they will be facing Kuwait in an epic showdown on June 16th. Al-Arabi's win came Friday at Ali Sabah Al-Salem Stadium, where it dominated throughout the first half with many attempts on the goal. Al-Arabi's pressure almost resulted in a goal before the half time whistle, but the referee used the VAR technology to rule out a goal due to a foul committed on Salmiya's defense before the ball hit the back of the net. In the second half, Al-Arabi's Kamil Al-Aswad managed to open the scoring in the 52nd minute, and the advantage continued for his team as the defense managed to block Salmiya's attacks until the final whistle. Kuwait SC qualified for the final match after beating Qadsia 1-0 in the other semi-final match held earlier in the day. — KUNA
