Tenacious D Charts A New Album In The Midst Of A Hiatus
Tenacious D lands its fifth top 10 on the Comedy Albums chart, as The Pick of Destiny debuts at No. ... More 8 nearly 20 years after its release. American comedians, actors, and musicians Kyle Gass (left) and Jack Black, both of the band Tenacious D, perform onstage, Chicago, Illinois, May 18, 2002. (Photo by) Getty Images Before Jack Black became a certified movie star, he found success in the music industry as one-half of Tenacious D. Black, joined by his friend Kyle Gass, created the band, which blended hard rock and comedy to produce something exciting and original. The duo has released albums fairly regularly every five or six years, as Black became one of the biggest movie stars in the business and wasn't able to devote all of his time to music. The act, which is currently on hiatus after Gass made a joke about the attempted assassination of President Donald Trump, has only shared a handful of projects, and though nothing new has come from the band recently — and nothing new is likely to arrive for quite some time — the rockers still manage to debut on a Billboard chart this week. The Pick of Destiny debuts at No. 8 on the Comedy Albums chart this week. Tenacious D scores the only new arrival on the 10-spot roster, which is one of the less frenetic of all the Billboard rankings. As The Pick of Destiny opens in eighth place, Tenacious D pushes its own self-titled project down one space to No. 9. The group stands out as the only act with more than one appearance on the tally at the moment. The Pick of Destiny arrives on the Comedy Albums chart almost two decades after it was first released. The album served as the soundtrack to the movie of the same name, which starred the members of Tenacious D, though it told a fictitious story of the group's beginnings. The film didn't perform well, but the soundtrack has become a cult classic, and now, The Pick of Destiny has become a commercial success. Tenacious D Scores Fifth Top 10 on Comedy Albums Chart Tenacious D earns a fifth top 10 on the Comedy Albums chart this week. The Pick of Destiny now stands out as the group's lowest-peaking title, as the band's other four top 10s all climbed into the highest two spaces. Both Tenacious D and Live stalled at No. 2, while Rize of the Fenix and Post-Apocalypto spent a month or more at No. 1.
