Arsenal transfer boost as Sporting Lisbon issued threat over Viktor Gyokeres replacement

Sporting are eyeing Almeria's Luis Suarez as their ideal replacement for Viktor Gyokeres amid ongoing transfer discussions with Arsenal and a £63.5million deal that has continued to drag Almeria president Joao Goncalves has warned Sporting CP they are willing to sell striker Luis Suarez elsewhere as negotiations with Arsenal rumble on for Viktor Gyokeres. Sporting view ex-Watford frontman Suarez, who scored 31 goals in 43 appearances last season, as the perfect replacement for their Sweden international talisman. ‌ However, there is also interest from Europe with Sunderland and Burnley among a list of sides to have made initial enquiries. ‌ Sporting are only willing to proceed with a deal for Suarez once they have finalised the sale of Gyokeres to Arsenal, which is yet to have been ratified due to a difference of opinion over the potential add-ons involved in the £63.5million package. ‌ Almeria chief Goncalves has now revealed he's willing to move forward in negotiations with other clubs, telling CNN Portugal: "Luis has had his best season, he's in the best moment of his career. 31 goals is a number any forward wants to achieve. "We haven't had any official contact with Sporting to date. We haven't received any formal or informal contact, but we have with other clubs, and we're moving forward with negotiations with other clubs. We're managing our timing. "Fair value? He has a €40million release clause. To paraphrase Frederico Varandas - we're not asking for the value of the clause, but we're going to defend our interests." ‌ The Colombian international is under contract with LaLiga 2 outfit Almeria until 2029 but it's understood the player wants to join Sporting. Ultimately, that could prove key because even if Almeria agree a club-to-club deal with another suitor, Suarez may yet hold out for Sporting. Still, Goncalves' comments provide yet another motive for the Portuguese champions to quickly finalise an agreement with Arsenal for Gyokeres. The Swede is awaiting permission to travel to London to undergo his medical examinations. ‌ He will not be travelling with the Arsenal squad to Singapore today for their pre-season tour of Asia, however, he remains likely to join the group in due course once all relevant formalities have been successfully concluded. Arsenal have already agreed an initial fee of £55m (€63.5m) for Gyokeres and they'll also pay around £8.5m (€10m) in bonuses. ‌ Sporting's preference is to receive £2.2m (€2.5m) once the 27-year-old has made 20 appearances, £2.2m (€2.5m) once Gyokeres has hit 40 appearances and then a further £2.2m (€2.5m) if Arsenal secure Champions League qualification. The Gunners want the final bonus payment to be more difficult to achieve but Sporting are said to be seeking assurances they will eventually receive the entire fee. Arsenal and Sporting are also discussing the FIFA solidarity mechanism which compensates Gyokeres' previous clubs for their role in the striker's development.

Official: Barcelona goalkeeper leaves the club on loan

Aron Yaakobishvili has left FC Barcelona on loan to join FC Andorra in La Liga 2, the club have officially confirmed. 'FC Barcelona and FC Andorra have reached an agreement for the loan of player Aron Yaakobishvili, until June 30, 2026,' the statement from Barça read. Advertisement The teenager becomes the second La Masia goalkeeper to leave on loan, following in the footsteps of Ander Astralaga. Yaakobishvili has been at Barcelona since 2018, when he joined from the youth ranks of Atletic Sant Just. The 19-year-old was one of the key players last season in Barça Juvenil A's treble triumph under Juliano Belletti as they won the Division de Honor, Copa del Rey, and UEFA Youth League. Yaakobishvili also made his debut for Barça Atletic in September last year and went on to play three times for the reserve team. The youngster could have had a shot at becoming the starting goalkeeper for Barça Atletic in the Spanish fourth tier next season, but will now play for Andorra – the club owned by Barcelona legend Gerard Pique – in the second division.

The former Arsenal midfielder made an emotional return to Oviedo in 2023, playing a starring role in last season's promotion back to the Spanish top flight for the first time in 24 years. And then scored a penalty in the second leg of the final to beat CD Mirandes in extra time. Cazorla offered to play at Oviedo — where he was in the academy from the age of eight to 16 — for FREE on his return, but league rules forced him to take a minimum wage of £77,000-a-year, or £1,480-per-week. Following Oviedo's promotion, he has signed on for the minimum possible amount again. But, as he steps up a level, he will now pocket a £90k pay-rise - as the LaLiga minimum wage is £168,000-a-year, or £3,230-a-week. That means Real Madrid's Kylian Mbappe will be earning THREE TIMES more in a WEEK than Cazorla gets a year, to play in the same league. And even then, the generous star will give 10 per cent of his wage and shirt sales to the club's academy. A club statement read: 'With this renewal, Santi Cazorla, a symbol and emblem of Oviedo, proves that dreams, when pursued with the heart, come true. He suffered an Achilles injury in October 2016, going on to have 11 operations to cure the problem. One of the operations led to gangrene with doctors telling Cazorla he should be satisfied to walk again, never mind play. It was even suggested he may have to have to lower leg AMPUTATED. But he ignored that doomsday prognosis and after an operation to rebuild his Achilles — including having a skin graft from his arm to his ankle — he returned to playing after a 22-month absence. Oviedo's first La Liga fixture is away at Villarreal — another former club of Cazorla's — on August 15 before hosting Jude Bellingham's Real Madrid.
