Patrick Bailey's 2-run triple helps Giants top White Sox

June 28 - Wilmer Flores doubled home a run, Patrick Bailey tripled in a pair and the San Francisco Giants opened a 10-game trip with a 3-1 victory over the Chicago White Sox on Friday night. Landen Roupp (6-5) and four relievers helped the Giants rebound from a three-game home sweep at the hands of the Miami Marlins. San Francisco earned just its fourth victory in the past 12 contests. After the White Sox took advantage of a San Francisco error to go up 1-0 in the first, the Giants did the rest of the scoring, beginning with Flores' two-out double in the third. The hit scored Bailey, who had led off the inning with a walk issued by Chicago starter Aaron Civale. The RBI was Flores' team-leading 55th of the season. That was the only run allowed by Civale in four laborious innings. He needed 80 pitches to get 12 outs, during which he allowed three hits and four walks. He struck out four. The Giants broke the tie against reliever Tyler Alexander (4-8) in the sixth. Willy Adames walked and Christian Koss singled with one out to set the stage for Bailey, who cleared the bases with his triple to right field. The triple was just the fourth of Bailey's three major league seasons, a career-best second this year. Roupp faced just two batters -- retiring one -- in the last of the sixth before turning the ball over to the bullpen. He wound up allowing seven hits, two walks and the one unearned run. He struck out four. Chicago's run was the product of an error by Adames, the Giants' shortstop, that allowed Chase Meidroth to scamper home from second base. Giants reliever Ryan Walker completed the sixth without incident. Randy Rodriguez and Tyler Rogers followed with a hitless inning apiece, and Camilo Doval threw a 1-2-3 ninth for his 13th save. In all, the San Francisco relievers retired 11 of the 12 batters they faced. Koss was the only Giant with two hits -- a couple of singles. Seven players had one hit -- each a single -- for the White Sox, who had won three of their previous six games after opening the season 23-52. Chicago was held to one or no runs for the 23rd time this year. --Field Level Media
