Star Channel Nine reporter Laura Turner jumps ship to Seven, as musical chairs continues at Aussie broadcasters
Channel Nine has suffered a major blow as experienced reporter Laura Turner jumps ship to the Seven Network. Turner, a Quill-award recipient and former United States correspondent, is making to the move to the Seven newsroom in Melbourne after a lengthy career at Nine. Fellow Nine staffer, Sydney-based producer-reporter Phoebe Worthley, has also been wooed over by Seven to join the team. An internal email to staff on Monday, seen by revealed Turner and Worthley are two of six new faces set to join 7News Melbourne in the near future. The email, sent by Seven's Melbourne Director of News Chris Salter, described Turner as a "natural leader" in the media industry whose experience will be an "enormous asset" to the team. Among other appointments to the newsroom include 7News Brisbane reporter Jordan Quinn and 7News Toowoomba journalist Sheri Smith, according to the email. Earlier this year, 7News Melbourne confirmed it had relocated its operations from its headquarters-of-23-years in Docklands to the Melbourne Quarter Tower on Collins Street. Turner began her career as WIN reporter in Ballarat, and spent a year abroad working for a local New Zealand network. The journalist kickstarted her successful stint at 9News Melbourne as a reporter in 2009 before jetting off to Nine's Los Angeles office in 2015 to serve as the network's US correspondent. The development comes after Seven recently lost star reporters Amelia Brace and Denham Hitchcock to Channel Ten after the duo were head-hunted to host its new show, 10 News+. The move for Hitchcock came just months after he announced his return to Channel Seven's Spotlight program after stepping away in January 2023 to spend more time sailing with his family. Channel Ten's new 10 News+ program - which it has described as a "premium, in-depth news, current affairs and insights" show - has replaced The Project after its recent axing. The Project aired for the last time on June 27 after almost 16 years and more than 4,500 episodes amid slumping ratings. Ten's latest venture made its debut on Monday night, with 10 News+ airing after the broadcaster's local 5pm bulletins.

Industry shock as popular Channel Nine reporter sensationally poached by rival network
Channel Seven is continuing to plunder the Channel Nine talent pool, poaching a popular senior reporter. Long-serving Nine reporter and former US correspondent Laura Turner will move to Seven's Melbourne newsroom as one of six new appointments, according to the Herald Sun. In an internal email seen by the publication, Seven's Melbourne news director Chris Salter revealed that fellow Nine reporter Phoebe Worthley would also be making the move to Melbourne. Jordan Quinn from 7News Brisbane, and Sheri Smith from 7News Toowoomba will also make the move to Melbourne. 'Laura is a natural leader in our industry — she's got a strong news sense and a passion for breaking and telling compelling stories,' Salter said. From A-list scandals and red carpet mishaps to exclusive pictures and viral moments, subscribe to the DailyMail's new showbiz newsletter to stay in the loop. 'Her experience will be an enormous asset for us.' Turner began her career in Nine's Melbourne newsroom back in 2010, before taking on a two-year stint as US correspondent in 2015. She recently took to Instagram to mark her 15 years with Nine by sharing a montage of some of her memorable moments with the network. 'I recently marked 15 years with Channel 9 and 20 years as a tv reporter,' she wrote. 'It's been a wild ride of natural disasters, US Presidential campaigns, missing aeroplanes, Quill awards, crime scenes, NFL games, Oscars red carpets, mass shootings, typhoons, pregnancies, personal highs and crushing lows.' Back in December, it was revealed that rising Nine star Xander McGuire, the son of veteran broadcaster Eddie McGuire, had also been poached by Seven to take on an expanded role in its sport and news divisions. McGuire established himself as one of Nine's most promising talents after joining the network in 2022, with sports presenter Tony Jones describing him as 'the best young reporter I've seen in almost 40 years'. It comes after Daily Mail Australia exclusively revealed last week that Seven had poached the executive producer from Nine's nightly bulletin, Tanya Weingarth. Back in December, it was revealed that rising Nine star Xander McGuire, the son of veteran broadcaster Eddie McGuire, had also been poached by Seven to take on an expanded role in its sport and news divisions In an internal email, the network announced the one-time A Current Affair senior producer would be appointed executive producer of the broadcaster's 6pm Sydney news bulletin. Seven's acting news director Geoff Dunn welcomed the appointment in the internal email. 'Tanya started her career with Seven Queensland, so she really is coming home,' the message read. 'We will confirm her start date in due course,' he said. 'We're thrilled she is making the switch to Sydney's most dedicated news team.' Weingarth's career has spanned two decades in Australia after she started as a reporter at Seven News Queensland in 2003. A Nine spokesman told Daily Mail Australia the network wished Weingarth 'all the best for her next career move'. 'Tanya continues to fulfil her current role as EP, including tonight at 6pm,' he said. It was also recently revealed that Seven News bosses were secretly planning to sack some of their most popular and best-paid stars. Former top news boss Anthony De Ceglie had a plan to axe every Channel Seven personality earning more than $300,000 per year in favour of upcoming TV stars, according to The Australian's Media Diary column. It was planned that Spotlight chief correspondent Liam Bartlett, Seven News chief reporter Chris Reason and Seven News Sydney anchor Michael Usher were going to be quietly dismissed as part of a 'drastic cost-cutting operation'. Sunrise and Morning Show presenters Natalie Barr, Matt Shirvington, Kylie Gillies and Larry Emdur were the only high-paid stars not at risk of losing their jobs.

Arkansas sees all time low in air quality, according to report
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (KNWA/FOX24) — The American Lung Association released there 2025 'State of the Air' report, and it had Arkansas reaching a record low in air quality. However, despite the poor ranking nationwide, Northwest Arkansas was found to be one of the cleanest areas for air quality. The area was given an 'A' grade for daily air quality, but received a 'D' grade for ozone levels. Laura Turner with the American Lung Association says ozone quality is down all across the country. 'I would say with ozone across the board throughout the country, we saw worsened ozone levels, it doesn't matter where you live. For short-term spikes in particle pollution, still on the cleanest cities list. Zero unhealthy days per year. So that's wonderful,' Turner said. Even with air quality considered clean by the standards of the rest of the state, it can still cause some underlying health issues. Dr. Blake Hansen at Simplified Health said that it's always important to check for symptoms. 'If somebody has lingering headaches and fatigue and it's not really tracking with anything else that's going on, and maybe there's some airway compromise where you're feeling like a little bit of nasal congestion or a little bit of harder time, like getting a full deep breath, definitely talk to your health care provider, your physician, get in, get checked out,' Hansen said. To find more on the air quality reports and to get a closer look at how the numbers are tracked, you can visit the American Lung Associations website. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc.
