Scooter Braun sparks ridicule as he claims feud with Taylor Swift boosted her career

Music mogul Scooter Braun has provoked a bitter backlash from Taylor Swift's fans by suggesting his highly publicised feud with her helped to boost her astronomical career Scooter Braun has raised eyebrows with a claim that his infamous feud with Taylor Swift helped improve her career. The 44-year-old music producer and the 35-year-old Wildest Dreams singer clashed in 2019 when he bought her old record label, Big Machine Label Group. ‌ The deal included the master recordings of Taylor's first six records, leading her to bitterly lash out at the businessman. She then went on to re-record her albums and re-release them to huge financial reward. ‌ This year, Taylor successfully bought back the rights to her own music after re-releasing four of the six albums in question, leading her to hint she may no longer re-record her debut and Reputation albums. Having enjoyed renewed success for the four albums she re-recorded, Scooter is now hinting that the feud that provoked the re-release of the records helped Taylor achieve a degree of success she would not otherwise have reached. ‌ Fans of the star, however, have made it clear they do not agree with Scooter's theory - and they have ruthlessly mocked him for his comment. While Taylor's fans have bitterly reacted to Scooter's comments, he has praised the Lavender Haze singer while sharing his opinions. Scooter appeared on Danielle Robay's Question Everything podcast, where they discussed his history with the chart-topping star. Discussing her re-recorded albums, he said: "She did incredibly well and basically had the biggest moment of her career, reinvigorating her career with each one. ‌ It was previously reported that Scooter bought the Big Machine Records and Taylor's masters in 2019 for $300 million (£220 million). He later sold the records to an investment firm called Shamrock Holdings for $405 million (£300 million) - and then Swift herself reacquired the music in May for a reported $360 million (£268 million). Scooter gushed: "It was brilliant on her part. But also, each time she released one, you saw a spike in the original catalog." He continued: "Funny enough, everyone involved in the saga, from a business standpoint, won. "She's the biggest she's ever been, biggest artist of all time. We did really well with the asset. The people who bought the asset did really well because of those spikes. ‌ "I wish kids and people out there understood that, like, there are scenarios in life where there doesn't need to be an oppressor and oppressed, there are scenarios in life where it's a misunderstanding, yet everyone can succeed." His comments sparked a backlash among Taylor's fans, however, who took to social media to pan the businessman. One wrote on X: "She lives rent free in his little head." And another typed: "Man takes credit for woman's success a tale as old as time." And a third wrote: "Is he obsessed or is he obsessed?" ‌ Scooter is famous for helping discover Canadian pop star Justin Bieber - and the two famously parted ways, on a business level, in 2023. Earlier this month, Justin released his seventh studio album - which was his first since he ended his partnership with Scooter. The businessman took to social media to praise the 31-year-old singer, however, writing ia Instagram Stories: 'Been having a beautiful start to the weekend and been getting a lot of texts about how I feel about Justin's new album. ‌ "So I will just leave this here. This is without a doubt, the most authentically Justin Bieber album to date. It's beautiful, raw, and truly him. And that matters.' He continued: 'I've had the privilege of witnessing his growth for almost two decades. Along every journey, there comes a time when an artist fully steps into their own — and that's what he's done here. He's poured his soul into this project, and you can feel it in every single run. 'The way he chose to release it is just as intentional as the music itself — and I'm happy to see him do it this way. I have played no roll in this one, but as someone who's always believed in him, I'm incredibly proud and impressed and genuinely enjoying the music."

"Reflections on Time — Images Over Blueskin Bay", Angela Burns (Gallery De Novo) Readers who know Angela Burns' art may get a surprise looking at her latest exhibition at De Novo. While much of Burns' style is intact, these pieces are far more clearly representational than much of the artist's former oeuvre. The play of light, expressed in broad sweeps of colour, remains present, but distinctive landforms are also clearly depicted — islands, fences, and hillsides. Burns' strong gestural strokes are still the basis of much of the art, but the lure of the photographic has led the artist to produce more strongly grounded landscapes. Inspired by photographs of the view from Double Hill Rd above Waitati, the artist has created a series of images which move between the tangible and the intangible, with plays of light on the water framed by the hills around Blueskin Bay. At times, especially when focusing on the water and sky, such as Lavender Haze over Blueskin Bay , the images have the same free abstraction as Burns' earlier works. In other pieces, the land is clearly delineated without losing the airy impressionism of the more ethereal pieces. A major surprise is the use of acrylic on both canvas and paper; the latter pieces using deft washes of colour that give them more the feel of gouache or heavily applied watercolour. "Through the Fray" (Blue Oyster Art Project Space) "Through the Fray" brings together work by three recent graduates from Dunedin School of Art. All three explore personal, political, or cultural journeys towards coming of age. In the case of Zac Whiteside, the struggles to be seen as a "true Kiwi bloke" and "one of the team" are brought into focus by a washing line filled with rugby jerseys fashioned out of steel wool. The duality of the material — abrasive yet polishing — connects with the often brutal process by which young New Zealanders are shaped into adulthood. Jude Hanson Stevens asks questions of the tactics by which European settlers claimed land in New Zealand using the concept of "Terra Nullius" ("Uninhabited land"). The artist presents a prosaic fence constructed from items salvaged from farm land. The ubiquitous No 8 wire brings with it association of makeshift solutions, and the tōtara posts have echoes not only of farm demarcation but also of traditional pouwhenua. Isabella Lepoamo examines cross-cultural memories, turning a battered La-Z-Boy armchair and discarded beer bottles, the signs of adulthood on the decline, into a Samoan throne, decorated with siapo patterns and surrounded by lilies. There is sadness here, but also strength and pride in the memory of the artist's father and grandfather, trying to create a new home in a new land. "You Can Go Back to the Past, But No-one Will be Waiting for You There", Simon Attwooll (Hutch) Simon Attwooll presents an intriguing exhibition at the new Hutch Gallery in Moray Pl. Working from found photographs of the aftermath of a house fire, the artist creates images which honour a loving memory of the house as it was, while simultaneously using the remains from a house fire as his medium. Crushed and refined charcoal powder from a burnt-out property is used as the medium, rubbed in great clouds over images of fire sites. What emerges are smoky images that seem reminiscent of early daguerrotypes and tintypes, photographs blurred by distant memory and faded with dust. We experience the visceral feel of the destroyed properties, the detritus of what was once a home. In some cases, the work has been compartmentalised by the addition of empty matchbox drawers to the surface, making the image into an almost forensic grid. Are we supposed to be trying to find the source or cause of the conflagration? Among the sooty black, one pale work stands out, almost as a ghost of a house, presented in palest acrylic grey on white. It is as if the spirit of the house still haunts the site, waiting for a release that understanding of the fire alone can bring. By James Dignan

Blake Lively ‘begging' Taylor Swift to ‘mend' their friendship after Justin Baldoni subpoena: Report

Amid the rumoured tensions between Blake Lively and Taylor Swift, a new report reveals that the Gossip Girl star is 'begging' the pop singer to become friends once again. The 35-year-old singer allegedly cut ties with A Simple Favor actress after being dragged into her legal battle with Justin Baldoni. However, the 37-year-old actress has tirelessly been reaching out to the Midnights hitmaker, according to Daily Mail. 'Even though Taylor has totally cut ties with her, Blake hasn't with Taylor,' a source told the outlet. 'She's been reaching out to her with texts, voicemails and even emails, begging to mend what they once had. Blake isn't giving up on trying to get her friendship with Taylor back on track.' Despite the constant messages and voicemails, Swift 'hasn't responded to any of Blake's pleas' and has 'ignored all her groveling excuses.' 'The missives explain there must be some misunderstanding on Taylor's part and that she'd never do anything to harm their 10 years of closeness and personal secrets,' the source added. Swift and Lively are allegedly no longer on speaking terms after the former was name-dropped in Baldoni's $400 defamation lawsuit against the latter and her husband, Ryan Reynolds. The 41-year-old claimed that his co-star used the singer's influence, referring to her as her 'dragon' to assert dominance. 'The message could not have been clearer. Baldoni was not just dealing with Lively. He was also facing Lively's 'dragons,' two of the most influential and wealthy celebrities in the world, who were not afraid to make things very difficult for him,' the lawsuit said, per Page Six. As a result, Baldoni's legal team subpoenaed Swift to testify as a witness in his and Lively's March 2026 trial. While the subpoena was dismissed weeks later, it damaged the Age of Adaline star's friendship with the Lavender Haze singer. According to a previous report by the outlet, Swift felt 'used' and 'doesn't appreciate being referred to as one of Blake's dragons.'

PHOTOS: Magic Hour Rooftop transforms into a sky-high floral fantasy with 1,000s of flowers

If Alice had fallen down the rabbit hole and landed in Times Square, she might have wound up at Magic Hour. This summer, NYC's largest indoor/outdoor rooftop bar is undergoing its most jaw-dropping transformation yet with Full Bloom, an immersive floral fantasia open now through September atop the Moxy Times Square. Created in collaboration with design firm Geo Events and Design House Decor, Full Bloom turns the west terrace into a kaleidoscopic garden in the sky. Expect vines tangled with checkerboards and waves, a whimsical carousel cocooned in oversized flowers and a 12-foot-tall technicolor bouquet at the center of it all—a surreal sculpture garden centerpiece made for Instagram and awe alike. 'We wanted to design something that felt surreal yet joyful—like stepping into the pages of a storybook,' said Azizan Ali of Design House Decor. And from the six-foot-tall daisies to the immersive floral skyline, they nailed it. But the fantasy doesn't stop at the décor. Executive Chef Ben-Galy Cisse and senior director of beverage Nikki McCutcheon have rolled out an all-new garden-inspired menu with dishes like wagyu pigs in a blanket and lobster rolls, plus floral-themed desserts and drinks. Sip your way through a 'bouquet of spritzes' (yes, that's really what it's called) served in iridescent vases, or try the Lavender Haze, made from Prosecco with a dash of lavender syrup and lemon. Non-drinkers can get in on the action too with fizz-forward mocktails like the Soft Launch. Full Bloom will also be hosting a packed lineup of summer programming, from drag brunches and celeb DJ sets to creative pop-ups and collabs with NYC icons. Weekend brunches run Saturdays and Sundays with sweet-and-savory options like crème brûlée French toast and a Dubai chocolate croissant. And if you're planning a bachelorette bash or a rooftop brand launch, the space is available for full buyouts—just be ready for your guests to stop and smell the (gigantic) roses. Reservations for Full Bloom at Magic Hour are now open via OpenTable—just be sure to select the Full Bloom Room when booking. Check out photos of the space and those floral offerings below:

Greenway Provides Cultivation and Market Update

KINGSVILLE, ON, May 9, 2025 /CNW/ - Greenway Greenhouse Cannabis Corporation (CSE: GWAY) (OTCQB: GWAYF) ("Greenway" or the "Company"), a cultivator of high-quality greenhouse cannabis for the Canadian market, today announced it has applied to Health Canada for new dedicated propagation space at the Leamington, Ontario facility, which should help increase the number of batches the facility can grow annually, and provided an update on current market dynamics. Greenway has applied through Health Canada to create new dedicated propagation and vegetation space at its current cultivation facility located in Leamington, Ontario. This new space is meant to be utilized for mid-stream propagation, allowing Greenway to gain space and time efficiencies in their flowering rooms. By doing this, the Company believes it will be able to increase the amount of biomass the facility can throughput annually and should help Greenway move toward its goal of having six full crop rotations every year. "We are always looking for new ways to increase our efficiency and lower our costs, and changing over this space will better equip us to achieve both of those goals," said Carl Mastronardi, President of Greenway. "We have found by giving our cuttings coming over from our nursery more time to become acclimated to the greenhouse environment before moving into the flowering stage, we receive higher production from our premium genetics. By having this new dedicated space, we can make sure that the plants remain in the most optimized environment for each stage of their development. Space and timing efficiencies are one of the ways we can continue to make incremental progress as a grower." Supply and Wholesale Price Update Greenway continues to see positive signs that the wholesale domestic and international markets are rebounding from the lows of 2023. The Company's revenue per gram has been steadily increasing for 6 straight quarters, from $0.84 to $1.58 per gram. "As we have seen the wholesale price of cannabis for Greenway increase, the speed at which we have been able to move our crops has also increased. This trend has continued since our most recent quarter and shows no signs of regression. Everything we are growing right now and over the last few months has had a home before it has even finished being harvested," said Jamie D'Alimonte, CEO of Greenway. "This is a great sign for the industry, as it ensures consumers are getting the freshest product possible, and that Greenway is not sitting on any inventory. With both the domestic and international markets heating up rapidly over the last 18 months, we have also been able to move towards more advantageous commercial terms." CPG Update Greenway's MillRite brand continues to be a leader among pre-rolls in the 2x0.5G size category, being the #2 ranked brand and having both the #2 ranked Indica and Sativa pre-roll in the segment with their Lavender Haze and Pink Moon. Over the next few months, the MillRite has new pre-roll sizes coming to Ontario, including its first foray into the blunt category with the Lavender Haze 1 gram glass tipped blunt arriving on store shelves before the end of May. In April, Greenway re-launched The Jeffrey pre-rolls in Ontario, which are now available across the province for purchase in three convenient sizes, helping expand Greenway's presence into new size categories.
