The US superstar's fans, complete with glittery boots and T-shirts, paid homage to her No1 album Cowboy Carter. Some weren't happy after being told they had to bin their brollies, but they cheered up as they heard Beyonce tunes pumping out of the stadium. The stadium lit up too, thanks to the Cowboy Carter glowing wristbands dished out on entry. This isn't your average show, but a moment of theatre. Beyonce is making a huge point of celebrating the genre's black roots and reclaiming country music as her forte with the finesse you'd expect from a global megastar. As she begins the mammoth seven-act show, which lasts almost three hours, Beyonce's trademark megawatt smile lights up the stadium. When the music strikes up, Beyonce lookalikes walk out on to the diamond- shaped stage dressed in gold capes and cowboy hats. She nails the opener, American Requiem, while gold fireworks blast around her. Dressed in white tasselled chaps and shades, her voice is unparalleled and the crowd are hooked on every word. Prince Harry & Meghan Markle put on united front at Beyonce gig 'Ya'll look so beautiful,' Bey tells the audience. 'I feel so honoured to be standing on this stage. "Thank you for the support over so many years.' Referencing Blackbird, she adds: 'This song is dedicated to all the beautiful blackbirds who came before me. 'I want to thank Paul McCartney for writing this song and I'm going to sing it for y'all. "I want ya'll to have a good time. The rain won't stop us.' Beyonce smashes through The Star- Spangled Banner into Freedom, using the stage as her catwalk, before ripping into a Ya Ya mash-up with her 2008 track Why Don't You Love Me — a big screen in front of the stage showing the lyrics to keep her word perfect. Daughter Blue Ivy's killer solo choreography on America Has A Problem, where she wears a newspaper-print outfit to match her mum, is insanely good. She gives a wry smile to the cameras as she notices the whole crowd are up on their feet screaming for her. It's easy to forget she's only 13. 'FAMILY AFFAIR' And it's not hard to see where Blue gets it from. Bey's choreo is, as always, high-energy and she doesn't put a step out of place. Formation gets a rapturous reaction, as well as Cuff It, Thique and Jolene. The show nods to her Renaissance tour, which saw her playing five shows right here in 2023. Beyonce throws in fan-favourite hits to support the tracks from her latest No1 record, including Texas Hold 'Em, which has nearly every person in the 62,000-seater stadium singing in unison. Youngest daughter Rumi makes the most of her big UK stage debut, appearing on stage after Beyonce started singing Protector, and tossing off a cowboy hat before sitting on her mum's lap. The stadium roars as Rumi waves to fans while video clips of her and twin brother Sir Carter from Beyonce and husband Jay-Z's personal archive are shown on screens. It's a real family affair for the Single Ladies singer, with ads for her Cecred beauty line and Jay-Z's SirDavis whisky everywhere. Meanwhile, her mum Tina is in the audience. 6 Beyoncé and Jay-Z's daughter Blue Ivy on stage Credit: BackGrid The concert's staging is impressive, with Beyonce reclining on a throne as a robotic arm pours her a whisky at one point. Another moment sees her riding a mechanical bull, a move that whips the crowd up into near hysteria, just like when she rode Reneigh, her sparkly disco steed, the last time she was here. It is a spectacle from start to finish and even the rain, which had thundered down in North London, can't wash the shine off Beyonce's crown. Kerry admits they were inspired to come back after agreeing to play at Ozzy Osbourne's huge farewell show with Black Sabbath's at Villa Park in Birmingham on July 5. 'It's an honour just to be mentioned in the same breath as the people playing that event,' Kerry tells me. 'Even if Slayer had never come back to do any shows, "I would've really pushed to come back just for this one. 'Sabbath means a lot to me musically, they're where I come from. 'They're my heroes. 'So all our shows are anchored with the Black Sabbath date.' Each of the bands performing, including Metallica, Pantera And Anthrax, will all play one of Black Sabbath's songs in tribute to the group. Tottenham won the Europa League, they really won't care how
The game was rubbish. The goal was rubbish. Even Brennan Johnson's botched knee-slide celebration was rubbish. Do Spurs care? Do they heck. Does Ange Postecoglou? Nah, mate. Winning the Europa League is huge for Tottenham. Last time they won a European trophy, Duran Duran were No.1 and last time they won anything, Archie Gray was not even two. Long story short… it's been a while. The collective sigh of relief from everyone of a Lilywhite persuasion probably affected weather patterns. The ever-growing monkey they've been carrying like a malevolent backpack had reached King Kong proportions. It's now taken a metaphorical tumble from the Empire State and Spurs will feel a whole lot better for it. With the dust still settling on the scrappy, scruffy win over Manchester United (and metaphorical monkey tumble), it's hard not to feel relieved for Spurs and pleased for the likes of Son Heung-min, unless you're Arsenal, West Ham or Chelsea, of course. Or United. Or one of their many other rivals. It'd be weird if you did. Wake up to find news on your club in your inbox every morning with Metro's Football Newsletter. Sign up to our newsletter and then select your team in the link so we can send you football news tailored to you. But on a human level the white half of north London, who now even have a Spurs bus parade to enjoy, have suffered more than their share of embarrassments. And while United have also had a stinker of a season they have won a bucketload of trophies since Ledley King lifted the League Cup in 2008. It feels potentially seismic for Tottenham in a way it wouldn't have for United, notwithstanding how significant it would have been for Ruben Amorim. To view this video please enable JavaScript, and consider upgrading to a web browser that supports HTML5 video Intangibles aside, it helps with recruitment. Yes it's slightly farcical the team one place outside the drop zone is heading into the Champions League but them's the rules and everyone knew them at the start of the season. Being there makes a huge difference to their pulling power. More Trending But it is the vagaries that could matter more in the long run. Getting over the line thanks to an untidy Johnson goal and surviving a couple of big scares is decidedly un-Spursy. The whole point of cup finals is to win them and when your recent record in them is as poor as Tottenham's, that really was all that mattered this week. Postecoglou spoke straight after the game about the belief the club can take from getting their hands on a trophy and how the unquenched thirst for silverware had made it too easy for everyone to take potshots at them. Could this herald a new era for Spurs? Will Ange even be there to usher it in? Hard to say. But a win's a win and Spurs fans I know don't give a metaphorical monkeys how scruffily it was achieved. The 7 best Spurs pubs in London to watch the 2025 Europa League final
The eyes of north London (or at least the Lilywhite half of it) will be on Bilbao this Wednesday evening (May 21), as the second-biggest competition in European club football reaches its conclusion with an all-English final between Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur. Naysayers argue that nobody cares about the Europa League, but it's a crunch game for both of the 'Big Six' teams. With the pair looking set to finish in the bottom quarter of the Premier League, victory is their only avenue for securing European football in the 2025/26 campaign, and allows one of them to salvage something from a torrid season. For Spurs, it would also mean securing a first piece of silverware since 2008, and the club's first European trophy since 1984, ending a trophy drought that weights more heavily on the storied club with each passing season. Many local fans will be heading to the boozers and beer gardens of north London to watch Ange Postecoglou's team face the Red Devils. Looking for a lively atmosphere in which to catch all the nail-biting action? Look no further than our roundup of London's best Spurs pubs. The Bluecoats Once home to the Bluecoats School for Girls, this quaint Jacobethan building was built in the mid-1830s, but has more recently been the site of solid match day boozing thanks to its proximity to the Spurs stadium. You won't need a reservation for the big match, but you will need to head down early as the place will be open from midday. Fans can fuel up ahead on resident kitchen Ling Lins's banging Asian fusion pub classics ahead of kick-off, and the place has secured a 2am license in case the north Londoners have cause for celebration. 614 High Road, N17 9TA The Bricklayers This small-ish Victorian pub is so close to the stadium that you can see it from the front windows, and on home matchdays punters can almost certainly hear the roar from the spectators inside should the team score. Decked out in all manner of Spurs memorabilia and a collection of scarves from visiting teams, it offers a lively, standing-room-only match-day atmosphere, with fans piling into its modest, covered beer garden to watch on outdoor screens. It doesn't do bookings, so get down early to ensure you make it inside (and have time to battle through the crowds at the bar for some pints!) 803 High Road, N17 8ER The Beehive A great spot just off Tottenham High Road, this spacious boozer boasts one of the nicest beer gardens in north London, with plenty of screens and an outdoor bar for busy matchdays, plus a very decent menu serving up generously portioned burgers, nachos and sharing platters. It doesn't take bookings when there's a big game on, so get down ahead of its 3pm opening and be prepared to queue if you want to secure a spot. Stoneleigh Road, N17 9JW The Antwerp Arms The oldest operating pub in N17, the 'Annie' has been frequented by Spurs fans since the club's inception in 1882, and was saved from redevelopment in 2015, when locals formed the Antwerp Arms Association to purchase the building and reopen it as north London's community-owned pub. Tables are all fully booked for the Europa League Final but the pub will be accepting a limited number of walk-ins, who will be able to celebrate (or commiserate) with pints of White Hart lager on keg, and Hopspur golden ale on cask. 168-170 Church Road, N17 8AS The Bill Nicholson This old-school boozer on the north-east corner of the stadium is named after Spurs' legendary 1960s manager, who led the club to a double in the 1960-61 season. With carved wooden bar and black and white framed photographs lining the walls, its interiors hark back to that golden era. Open from 1pm, it doesn't do bookings but will close the doors as soon as it reaches capacity, so be punctual! 102 Northumberland Park, N17 0TS The High Cross Opened in 2018 in a 1920s mock Tudor building that once housed public loos, the High Cross is a cute little spot slightly further away from the stadium than most match day favourites. Open from midday, it's not taking any more bookings for the big match, but has saved some tables for walk-ins.

Beirne bags a dozen as Kildare put a scoring clinic on Leitrim
Tailteann Cup: KILDARE 0-36 LEITRIM 0-11 Alex Beirne scored 12 points as Kildare brushed off their Leinster Championship disappointment by strolling to the most facile of victories at a sunny Cedral St Conleths Park in the opening round of the Tailteann Cup. Any lingering hangover from the Leinster semi-final defeat to Louth was blown away as Brian Flanagan's men turned in an exhibition of shooting on a perfect evening for football. Kildare had their chances in that game against Louth and had shown a reluctance to shoot from long range in earlier games this year. Here, against admittedly weaker opponents, you could see their confidence grow with every point as they began to shoot with freedom. Beirne led the way with a superb display of free taking and long-range shooting but he was far from on his own with Darragh Swords and Ryan Sinkey sharing 12 points evenly between them. It wasn't quite all plain sailing though. After a blistering start when Kildare led 0-6 to 0-1 after 14 minutes, Leitrim showed that they weren't just in Newbridge to make up the numbers. Barry McNulty kicked an excellent two-point free and then when Keith Keegan scored in the 27th minute there was just two points between the teams, 0-7 to 0-5. That, however, just woke Kildare from their slumber and they took off on a run of 11 points in the next eight minutes of play, including a two point effort from Beirne. McNulty and Keegan scored the last two points of the half but Kildare still led 0-16 to 0-7 at the break. Leitrim could have fashioned a goal in the opening 30 seconds after the restart but the final pass to Keegan was just at the wrong height and he couldn't make the right connection. After that, it was one way traffic with Kildare completely dominating the tie. Their performance reach a crescendo seven minutes into the second period when the injury-jinxed Jimmy Hyland, making his first Championship start since 2022, set up Beirne for a two-point score and then he brilliantly converted from similar range himself a minute later. To their credit, Kildare never took their foot off their pedal and kept the scoreboard ticking over right up until the last kick of the game when goalkeeper Cian Burke converted a 45. The only thing missing from the Kildare performance was a goal but after scoring 36 points there was few of a Lilywhite persuasion complaining.
