Elite WR commit Kohen Brown shuts down recruitment, sticking with Texas
Texas has been red hot on the recruiting trail over the last few weeks. Last weekend, they got a pledge from four-star wide receiver Kohen Brown. However, in this day and age of college football, the recruiting process continues until a player officially signs. A few days after his commitment, Brown canceled official visits to Notre Dame and Ole Miss. On Saturday, Brown let it be known that he isn't taking any more visits as he has shut down his recruitment and will remain with Texas. Advertisement Brown was once committed to USC. However, after he decommitted in May, Texas made him an offer six days later. In less than a month he took an official visit to Austin and that's all it took to get his commitment. The Longhorns have the No. 18 recruiting class at the moment per 247Sports with Brown still on board. They hosted a ton of prospects this weekend as well, so their ranking could improve soon. Longhorns lose another recruiting battle with SEC rival
The Longhorns thought they were in a good spot with 2026 five-star linebacker Xavier Griffin. The Gainesville, GA native decommitted from USC in May and took an official visit to Austin in June. Austin-based recruiting analyst Sam Spiegelman thought Texas would land the blue chipper. "It's down to Texas and Alabama with a June 26 commitment on the horizon," Spiegelman said. "No team has come on stronger with the four-star EDGE than the Longhorns. There's a sense Texas made another step forward with Griffin and his mother back in Austin this weekend." Advertisement But it was not to be. Over the weekend, versatile, 6-foot-4, 205-pound prospect committed to Alabama. Griffin is now the top-ranked prospect among 14 commits in Alabama's incoming class. "Growing up, just seeing them, all the draft picks and stuff that they've had -- all the guys they've put in the league -- it speaks for itself," Griffin told ESPN. "They have history and they're really clear about what they're trying to build with this new staff." Follow us on X/Twitter at @LonghornsWire. Former Longhorn Scottie Scheffler joins Tiger Woods as only repeat winners at Memorial
Former Longhorn Scottie Scheffler joins Tiger Woods as only repeat winners at Memorial Scottie Scheffler is dominating pro golf. The Texas Longhorns golf alum, fresh off winning the PGA Championship two weeks ago, has become only the second repeat winner at the Memorial. Only Tiger Woods, who won three times in a row (1999-2001) had repeated at the tournament in Dublin, Ohio is hosted by golf legend Jack Nicklaus. Scheffler surged to the lead at Muirfield Village on Saturday and held on with his trademark machine-like efficiency on Sunday. After celebrating the win on the 18th green, Scheffler was embraced by Nicklaus, sitting greenside. Nicklaus exclaimed, "Well, you did it again." The Dallas native was the only player to break par all four days. He now has three wins on tour this year, which includes his third major championship at Quail Hollow. His season started slow after cutting his hand over the holidays severe enough that it needed surgery. The former "ESPN GameDay" guest picker will play next in two weeks in the U.S. Open at Oakmont. Elite OT names Texas in top four schools
Texas produced the top-ranked recruiting class for 2025. However, the 2026 cycle needs more juice, and one of the top remaining uncommitted recruits has placed the Longhorns on a very exclusive list. Malakai Lee, who stands 6-foot-7 and weighs 320 pounds has named Texas as one of his top four schools per Hayes Fawcett. They join Alabama, Georgia, and Michigan. On3's industry rankings have Lee as the No. 118 overall prospect and the No. 10 offensive tackle in the nation. They also have him as the No. 2 player in Hawaii. Advertisement Lee recently visited Georgia in April. He will travel to see Alabama on May 30 before seeing Texas on June 6 followed by Michigan on June 20. Texas was the first out of these schools to offer Lee, doing so before his freshman season in high school in May of 2022. The Longhorns have an opportunity here to add to offensive line commits Max Wright who committed in February and was followed by Max Wright in March.
