Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba comes to Dodger Stadium for fan night, first pitch, and drone show

Crossover caps to be given away in latest team-up between Los Angeles baseball club and hit anime. Earlier this month, Luffy and the rest of the One Piece Straw Hat Pirates sailed across the ocean for a special fan night at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles. The Major League Baseball team's summer of anime fun isn't over yet, though, as they're getting ready for a special crossover with another of the biggest names in the anime/manga world, Demon Slayer: Kimetsu No Yaiba. 【 #ドジャース 】宿敵との対決『無限城編 第一章 猗窩座再来』が現在上映されている『鬼滅の刃』とのコラボとして、ドジャースは8月15日(日本時間16日)の試合で鬼滅公式限定キャップを来場者に配布します🤩 📷: @Dodgers — MLB Japan (@MLBJapan) July 29, 2025 The event will take place before, during, and after the Dodgers game on August 15 against the San Diego Padres, whose rivalry with the Los Angeles team has been growing more intense in recent years as they've clashed in competition for their division championship and gone head-to-head in the playoffs. In addition to pre-game Demon Slayer festivities, there will also be a Demon Slayer -themed ceremonial first pitch, in-game promotions, and a post-game drone show hyping Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba–The Movie: Infinity Castle, the latest theatrical feature in the anime franchise which started showing in Japanese theaters earlier this month and will make its North American debut in September. The official Japanese-language MLB Twitter account also says that limited-edition caps featuring the Dodgers' LA logo and Demon Slayer protagonist Tanjiro, plus the distinctive checkerboard pattern of his coat across the hat's brim, will be given out to fans at the stadium, though with no details currently available as to quantities and conditions. It wasn't all that long ago that conventional wisdom would have said there wasn't sufficient enough crossover between the anime fan and pro sports fan demographics to do an event like this. With anime continuing to grow more and more popular around the world, though, the Dodgers' chief marketing officer Lon Rosen recognizes that 'Without a doubt, there is an intersection between the two fan bases, and we look forward to celebrating that mutual fandom with what is sure to be an exciting night at Dodger Stadium.' It's worth noting that Los Angeles sports teams have had very good results in games with anime tie-ins. Not only did the Dodgers win their One Piece game at the start of the month (with pitcher Clayton Kershaw reaching the 3,000-strikeout milestone on the night), anime promotions also coincided with wins for the city's Rams and Lakers professional football and basketball teams, and the Dodgers performed well in their games that featured a visit from Pikachu and the Sailor Moon theme song too. BI reports 'sharp rise' in PH foreign fugitive arrests

The Bureau of Immigration (BI) reported Monday a "sharp rise" in the number of foreign fugitive arrests in the Philippines during the first half of 2025. According to the BI, immigration personnel nabbed a total of 268 foreign fugitives from January to June, up from the 69 arrests during the same period last year. "The Philippines will not be a hiding place for fugitives. We are determined to flush them out and send them back to face justice," Immigration Commissioner Joel Anthony Viado said. "Our continued cooperation with foreign governments and international law enforcement agencies will ensure that the Philippines remains a secure nation from these fugitives," he said. Among those arrested was Lee Jihwan, a Korean who was nabbed arrested in January in Talisay City, Cebu for violent robbery in South Korea. Another Korean, Chu Hoyong, was collared in February for defrauding victims of KRW 2.26 billion using fake real estate collateral. He is considered a high-value target by Korean authorities and is allegedly linked to telecom fraud operations in the Philippines. Meanwhile, four Japanese believed to be members of the "Luffy" syndicate, were arrested between January and April. They are wanted in their home country for theft, allegedly impersonating police officers to gain entry into homes and carry out robberies. In May, seven more Japanese connected with the "JP Dragon" syndicate were apprehended for similar crimes. The group is known for targeting elderly victims by posing as authorities and stealing their automated teller machine (ATM) cards and banking details. Their alleged leader, Ryuji Yoshioka, was apprehended in Angeles City, Pampanga last June. The arrested individuals will undergo deportation proceedings and are to be expelled from the country for being undesirable aliens. Last week, the BI said it deported more than 1,400 foreigners during the first six months of 2025 for violating the country's immigration laws. — VDV, GMA Integrated News

Grouchy Pomeranian Pretends to Be Asleep Until Mom Mentions His Favorite Snack

Grouchy Pomeranian Pretends to Be Asleep Until Mom Mentions His Favorite Snack originally appeared on PetHelpful. If you have a pet at home, you know how quickly they learn certain words, as well as how to ignore them, too. Luffy is a Pomeranian puppy who already knows several food-related words, but he's only a fan of one of them as you'll see in this video his mom posted recently. Make sure your sound is on so that you can hear Mom list off several words that Luffy, who is pretending to be napping, doesn't pay any attention to. But when she mentions his favorite snack, the look on his face is priceless! Luffy's mom says in the video's caption, "He hears what he wants to hear." Luffy reminds us a lot of a toddler because they're the exact same way! Viewers of the short and sweet video had a lot to say about it and left nearly 1,000 comments. @milliepommybrown joked, "Did someone sayyy chickennnnn LOL!" @Windy Geiger-Stiener pointed out, "His little eyeball peek as you roll through the options..." @Kele added, "That's the password! Who would have thought?!"Healthy Treats for Your Pup If you have a pooch who is a fan of human foods, there are plenty that you can offer them that are both nutritious and yummy. All of the foods that Luffy's mom listed off are great options for your pup, as well as many other fruits and veggies. With summer heat finally here, there are some great water-dense foods that you can offer to your dog either as-is or frozen for a crunchy treat like cantaloupe, watermelon, mangoes, different berries, and spinach and celery. Top Dog Tips offers this tip about celery, "When feeding your dog celery, make sure to remove leaves and cut celery sticks into smaller pieces to avoid choking hazards. It's also important to note that eating too much celery can have a diuretic effect on the dog." Though all of these treats are healthy, that doesn't mean that you can feed your fur baby as much of them as they'll eat. Opt to serve them in small quantities as an occasional treat instead of offering them all day, every day. Senior 'Luffy' crime group member gets 20 years over robberies

A Tokyo court on Wednesday sentenced a senior figure in a crime ring that orchestrated robberies across Japan from the Philippines to 20 years in prison, marking the first conviction of a leading member. Tomonobu Kojima, 47, was convicted of assisting in a robbery and other crimes remotely directed by the group, whose members used monikers such as "Luffy," the name of a popular manga character, and recruited perpetrators via social media. The trial at the Tokyo District Court focused on Kojima's role in the group. Although he admitted to the charges at the first hearing in early July, he said his role was merely that of a "handyman." Presiding Judge Masamichi Itatsu ruled that Kojima had a very important role in enabling the crimes, citing that he introduced applicants for lucrative but shady "part-time jobs" multiple times to other senior members, including Yuki Watanabe, 41, at their request to recruit people to carry out the robberies. Itatsu said strict punishment was necessary due to his involvement in "a new type of crime" that not only endangers public safety but also kept producing many perpetrators by discarding them after use. Prosecutors had sought a 23-year sentence, while Kojima's defense counsel had sought 11 years on the basis that his involvement was limited. According to the ruling, Kojima introduced people recruited to carry out robberies to Toshiya Fujita, 41, another senior group member, in cases between October and December of 2022. Kojima in 2019 also conspired with Kiyoto Imamura, 41, who is believed to have used the "Luffy" pseudonym, to pose as a Financial Services Agency official to steal bank cards to illicitly withdraw a total of 15 million yen ($102,000), as well as stealing some 38 million yen in cash, the ruling said. The three other senior group members have been indicted for allegedly giving instructions to their subordinates in eight main robbery cases. Trial dates for the three have yet to be decided. The crime ring is suspected of being involved in more than 50 cases of robbery, theft and other crimes across 14 prefectures. The robberies shocked Japan, where violent crime is rare. All four men were deported from the Philippines in February 2023. They are suspected of issuing instructions for the eight robberies on the encrypted messaging app Telegram while being held at a Manila immigration facility before their deportation. © KYODO

Senior member of 'Luffy' crime ring gets 20 years in prison

The Tokyo District Court on Wednesday sentenced a senior member of a Philippines-based Japanese crime ring to 20 years in prison for his involvement in a nationwide robbery scheme. Tomonobu Kojima, 47, was the first of the four indicted members of the group, whose members went by the nickname "Luffy," to receive a court ruling. Kojima was indicted on charges of recruiting individuals involved in robbery cases from October 2022 to December 2022, including those in the city of Inagi, Tokyo, the capital's Nakano Ward and the city of Iwakuni in Yamaguchi Prefecture. He also allegedly swindled a total of about ¥54 million in 2019. During his trial, Kojima admitted to the charges, and public prosecutors sought a 23-year sentence. The prosecutors argued that Kojima recruited perpetrators through X, formerly Twitter, and agencies for illegal part-time jobs, and concluded that he played a significant role in executing robberies. They also claimed that Kojima served as second-in-command and safekeeper in special fraud cases, helping to maintain and expand the group's activities under leader Yuki Watanabe, 41. Meanwhile, the defense noted that Kojima's roles as second-in-command and safekeeper were exaggerated and that he was not privy to the details of robbery plans, and suggested that an 11-year sentence would be appropriate. The other three of the four indicted members, including Watanabe, have been charged with robbery resulting in death over a high-profile case in the Tokyo city of Komae. The dates for their first court hearings have yet to be decided.
