(AP Photo/Matt Krohn) MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Cal Raleigh hit his major league-leading 32nd home run on Monday, one of four by the Seattle Mariners in their 11-2 victory over the Minnesota Twins. Raleigh hit a two-run shot to left in the ninth inning off reliever Joey Wentz. Advertisement Julio Rodríguez and Luke Raley homered as part of a six-run third inning for Seattle. Dominic Canzone, who homered twice on Sunday, went deep again for the Mariners, while Bryan Woo (7-4) gave up two runs and struck out nine to win his second straight start. Brooks Lee, Trevor Larnach and Carlos Correa each had two hits. Larnach and Correa hit back-to-back homers in the sixth inning for Minnesota, which has lost 14 of its last 17. Twins starter Bailey Ober (4-5) had just one bad inning, but it was rocky enough to be the difference in the game. He gave up six runs in the third, with a two-run homer by Rodríguez and Raley's three-run shot doing most of the damage. Ober allowed only two other baserunners and struck out seven in his seven-inning stint. Advertisement Rodríguez added a two-run double in the ninth inning before Raleigh's home run. Key moment Ober was one out away from getting out of the third inning with just three runs allowed. But he left a fastball over the middle to Raley, who drove it an estimated 436 feet to right-center for a three-run homer that gave Seattle a 6-0 lead. Key stat Since losing starters Pablo López and Zebby Matthews to shoulder injuries in early June, the Twins have allowed 133 runs in 17 games, an average of 7.8 per game. Up next The second game of the series features a matchup of veteran right-handers as Seattle's Luis Castillo (4-5, 3.38) faces Chris Paddack (3-6, 4.48) for the Twins. ___ More AP baseball:

Mariners make surprising Rowdy Tellez roster decision
The post Mariners make surprising Rowdy Tellez roster decision appeared first on ClutchPoints. The Seattle Mariners are now five games back of the AL West Division after leading for the majority of the season. They need to get back on track fast. The Houston Astros have surged ahead of them, and now the Mariners are just 1.5 games ahead of the Los Angeles Angels. Advertisement On Friday, one day after a much-needed day off, Seattle starts a series against the Chicago Cubs at Wrigley Field. The contest starts at 2:20 ET, so it will begin here shortly. Ahead of the series, the team made a roster move that is a bit surprising. They designated first baseman and designated hitter Rowdy Tellez for assignment and reinstated utility man Luke Raley from the 10-day IL. Tellez is having a rough season compared to some good years in the past. His home run numbers are actually on pace to be better than a majority of his career years; however, he can't get on base at a consistent rate. His average is at just .208, and his OBP is .249. His 11 homers are second on the team behind the home run leader, Cal Raleigh, who has 27. The Mariners don't have a lot of pop outside of Raleigh, so potentially losing Tellez will see some decreases in homers. Luke Raley is valuable because he plays the outfield as well as first base. His numbers aren't much better in very few ABs this season, but the team is giving him a chance due to past success. He hit 22 home runs last season and 19 the year before that for the Mariners. He had an .824 OPS in 2023. Seattle is hoping Raley can return to that form, which would provide a valuable left-handed bat in the middle of the lineup. If the Mariners want to get back on track quickly, they will need their left-handed bats to step up this weekend against the Cubs, with two right-handed pitchers on the mound Saturday and Sunday.
