Penang eases rules for religious speakers following guidelines
BUTTERWORTH: Penang does not impose restrictions on religious speakers as long as they adhere to state guidelines and laws, according to Deputy Chief Minister I Datuk Dr Mohamad Abdul Hamid. He clarified that the state is among the most lenient in granting religious credentials, with exemptions for experienced speakers from rigorous tests. Mohamad stated that those who follow the Penang Islamic Religious Administration Enactment 2004 face no issues, addressing recent reports of a preacher being barred from Masjid Semilang. He made these remarks during the 2025 MAINPP Zakat Fitrah Amil Awards (MAFIT) ceremony in Seberang Jaya. The Penang Islamic Religious Council (MAINPP) revised its credentialing policy last year to streamline approvals for qualified individuals. 'For occasional speakers, mosque or surau committees must seek special permission from the Penang Islamic Religious Affairs Department (JHEAIPP),' he added. - Bernama

Penang says no ban on religious talks as long as speakers follow state rules
BUTTERWORTH, July 16 — Penang does not restrict religious speakers from delivering lectures as long as they comply with state religious guidelines and laws, said Deputy Chief Minister I Datuk Dr Mohamad Abdul Hamid. He said Penang is among the easiest states to obtain religious credentials (tauliah), granting exemptions from rigorous tests or interviews for experienced speakers. 'Speakers who follow the Penang Islamic Religious Administration Enactment 2004 face no issues, including in the recent case of a preacher reportedly barred from Masjid Semilang,' he said at the 2025 MAINPP Zakat Fitrah Amil Awards (MAFIT) ceremony in Seberang Jaya today. Mohamad added that the Penang Islamic Religious Council (MAINPP) also amended its credentialing policy last year to simplify approval for qualified individuals. MAINPP Launches Education Waqf Fund To Boost State's Education Development
GENERAL BUKIT MERTAJAM, June 17 (Bernama) -- The Penang Islamic Religious Council (MAINPP) today launched the Penang Education Waqf Fund to strengthen education development in the state. Deputy Chief Minister I and MAINPP president Datuk Dr Mohamad Abdul Hamid said the fund, managed by MAINPP Waqf, aims to provide comfortable facilities, support digital learning and enhance character development among students. He said the fund could also help promising students from underprivileged families further their studies through the establishment of competitive knowledge centres that provide long-term benefits. 'The fund will support the State Education Department in developing relevant infrastructure and facilities,' he told reporters after launching the fund at the MADANI Community Islamic Carnival held at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Penanti here today. He said key components of the education fund include wakaf ilmu (knowledge waqf), such as the purchase of books and equipment for resource centres. Mohamad also encouraged educators and the public, particularly Muslims in Penang, to contribute to the fund via direct donation, bank auto-debit or the QR code provided by MAINPP Waqf. Meanwhile, he said the second edition of the carnival this year was held in conjunction with the Penang Islamic Development Tour (APAI2030), with a focus on socio-economic development through waqf, a core pillar of the APAI2030 initiative. 'The socio-economic development of the ummah through waqf is essential to ensure that Muslims in Penang progress in tandem with the state's rapid development,' he said. He noted that this year's tour included not only carnivals at district mosques but also selected schools across all districts. The first carnival in the series was held at Masjid Abdullah Fahim, Kepala Batas, on May 17.

GEORGE TOWN, June 15 (Bernama) -- The allowance for Penang Islamic Kindergarten (TADIS) teachers has been increased by RM400 per month to RM1,400, and by RM200 to RM1,200 a month for the kindergarten assistants starting this month. Deputy Chief Minister I Datuk Dr Mohamad Abdul Hamid, who is also the Penang Islamic Religious Council (MAINPP) president, said the increase would benefit 40 TADIS teachers and 21 assistants. TADIS currently has an enrolment of 874 students. "This increase is also one of the results of the rebranding of TADIS to Tadika Islam Mutiara MADANI (TIMM), ' he said, adding that MAINPP aimed to set up another 30 TIMMs this year.

He expressed MAINPP's commitment to empowering Islamic kindergartens in Penang by approving the rebranding of TADIS, which has existed since 1998 with an allocation of RM10,736,800 for a period of five years (2025-2029),' he said in a statement on his Facebook today. He said that apart from that, TADIS teachers could apply to continue their diploma studies for free at the Penang International Islamic Technology College (KITAB). MAINPP is offering five places per semester for teachers to pursue diploma studies in Islam for free at KITAB Penang, he said.
