Touchdown made easy: Taiwan goes digital with new arrival card for smoother travel
Taiwan's shift to a fully digital arrival card system is a welcome change for international travelers seeking a smoother, faster entry process. Image: Instagram. From October 1, Taiwan will embrace a significant shift in its immigration process by launching the Taiwan Arrival Card (TWAC), replacing the traditional paper-based arrival cards. This transition marks a modernisation of procedures and aims to elevate the experience for international travellers. All visitors to Taiwan are now required to complete their TWAC online within three days before arrival, a move designed to reduce waiting times and improve overall efficiency at immigration checkpoints. Currently, the official portal is live, allowing travellers to submit either the digital application or the paper card until September 30. From October 1, the digital format will become mandatory. The TWAC process is designed to be user-friendly, requiring email verification during registration and ultimately facilitating a faster immigration clearance experience. Travellers can easily retrieve pre-filled information by simply scanning their passports, which significantly enhances both speed and accuracy. This new digital requirement aligns Taiwan with other forward-thinking Southeast Asian destinations, such as Malaysia's MDAC and Thailand's TDAC, that have already implemented similar systems to streamline their arrival procedures. As part of a broader initiative by the Taiwan National Immigration Agency (NIA) to refine and modernise the country's border management, the TWAC will be a requirement for all international travellers without resident status, including tourists, business visitors, and short-term entrants. The online form simplifies the amount of information previously gathered on paper, with key details including: Passport details Flight or ship number Expected arrival date Address and contact details during stay Purpose of visit (eg, tourism, business) Upon submission of the TWAC, travellers will receive a confirmation email containing a QR code. At most immigration checkpoints, officers will scan their passports, allowing for an automatic retrieval of personal information from the TWAC system, making the arrival process significantly quicker. For those who forget to complete the online form in advance, assistance at airport kiosks will be readily available. By introducing a more intuitive interface designed specifically for ease of use, Taiwan is positioning itself strategically within a competitive travel market. This shift simplifies the process and resonates with global trends, aligning Taiwan with the evolving landscape of international travel.

Congestion at Johor CIQ as autogate glitch slows entry for foreign travellers
KUALA LUMPUR: Heavy congestion was reported this morning at the bus passenger hall of the Sultan Iskandar Building (BSI) Customs, Immigration and Quarantine (CIQ) complex due to a technical fault in the autogate system. Light vehicles also experienced slower traffic approaching the entry checkpoint, although other immigration zones within the complex were not affected. The Malaysian Border Control and Protection Agency, in an update at 11.30am, said the congestion stemmed from a disruption in the automated immigration clearance system at the main entry point used by foreign visitors. Travellers were reminded to ensure their travel documents are valid and in order before approaching immigration counters. "They are also reminded to present a valid visa where required, top up their Touch 'n Go cards prior to arrival, and check their eligibility and submit travel details via the Malaysia Digital Arrival Card (MDAC) portal," the agency said in a Facebook post today. It also advised all visitors to adhere to displayed instructions and give way to those in greater need to ensure comfort and safety for all. Earlier, the agency confirmed that a technical disruption had affected the autogate system used by foreign visitors at the country's main entry points since yesterday. Preliminary investigations indicate that the issue stems from a data integration failure, which has slowed the cross-verification process in the Malaysian Immigration Integrated System (MyIMMS).

Nuisance animal hunting in Mississippi: What you need to know
JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – As the Mississippi Department of Agriculture and Commerce (MDAC) continues to promote its Wild Hog Control Program, other animals are nuisances in the state. Nuisance animals are defined by statute in Mississippi. They include nutrias, beavers, foxes, skunks, coyotes and wild hogs. These animals may be hunted, trapped, taken, killed, chased or pursued on private lands. Nuisance animals may be hunted with the aid of electronic calls. Persons hunting nuisance animals must possess a valid license unless otherwise exempt. Each Mississippi resident aged 16 through 64 must obtain a hunting license, except while hunting on lands titled in his name. Persons trapping nuisance animals, other than wild hogs, must have a valid Mississippi trapping license, unless otherwise exempt. A Mississippi resident at least 16 years old may purchase a trapper's license. All live cage-type traps must be checked every 36 hours. Mississippi opens wild hog control applications May 15 All non-targeted wild or domestic animals caught must be released immediately upon detection. Traps for wild hogs must have at least 50% of the roof open to allow non-targeted deer, turkeys or bears the ability to escape. According to the Mississippi Administrative Code, the only nuisance animals that may be sold alive are coyotes and foxes. Any part of any lawfully taken nuisance animal may be sold year-round, except wild hog meat. No meat or other part of a wild hog may be sold without having first been inspected and approved by the U.S. Department of Agriculture and the Mississippi Department of Agriculture and Commerce (MDAC). Landowners and any leaseholders may hunt nuisance animals year-round at any time of day or night with no weapon or caliber restrictions on property titled in their name or otherwise owned or leased by them. Nuisance animals may not be hunted or pursued with dogs during the open spring turkey season. The governmental entity charged with the management of public lands may or may not allow the taking of nuisance animals subject to applicable laws, rules or regulations. It is the hunter's responsibility to check with the entity managing the property before hunting nuisance animals on those lands. MDAC offers wild hog traps to land managers for the control of wild hogs on private agricultural and forestry lands in Mississippi. Traps will be deployed in concentrated focal areas across the state. The upcoming application period lasts from May 15 to 29. For some landowners, it may not be desired or even practical to deal with nuisance animals. To find a nuisance wildlife control specialist near you, click here.
