What Do You Think Of Mumbai Metro-11 From Anik Depot To Gateway Of India? Tell MMRCL By August 20

Last Updated: Mumbai Metro 11 will have underground stations covering areas such as Wadala Truck Terminal, Sewri, Byculla, Bhendi Bazaar, and Crawford Market, terminating near Gateway of India The Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation Limited (MMRCL) has invited suggestions and objections from citizens on the proposed 17.5-km Metro Line-11, which will stretch from Anik Depot to Gateway of India, passing through key locations like Bhendi Bazaar and Nagpada. The project, financed by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), is a key part of Mumbai's expanding metro network and aims to enhance connectivity in the city's eastern and southern corridors. Metro-11: Anik Depot to Gateway of India Metro Line-11 will have underground stations covering major areas such as Wadala Truck Terminal, Sewri, Byculla, Bhendi Bazaar, and Crawford Market, terminating near Gateway of India. Only Anik Depot will be at ground level. Metro Line 11 will link with Metro Line 4 (Wadala-Kasarvadavli), the Aqua Line, the Monorail, and major suburban railway stations like Byculla and CSMT, making it a vital interchange route in the city's public transport network. The MMRCL published the alignment and environmental and social impact assessment report for the proposed Wadala-Gateway of India underground Metro Line 11. According to the report, over 2,200 trees will either be cut or transplanted, and 796 structures are likely to be impacted by the construction work, affecting a total of 801 families. As per the social impact assessment report for this proposed metro 11, total permanent land requirement for the project is estimated at 24.65 hectares, including 15.85 hectares for the proposed depot at Anik Bus Depot, which will be developed jointly with the existing bus facility. While most of the alignment is underground, the project will require land for entry/exit points and ancillary services. Temporary land usage of around 17.44 hectares is also planned during the construction phase. Efforts have been made to minimize displacement and land acquisition, with only 2.3 hectares of private land needed. However, the corridor will affect certain residential and commercial structures, including huts, and may result in relocation. Compensation will be provided as per the Right to Fair Compensation and Transparency in Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement Act, 2013, and in accordance with the MMRC and MUTP resettlement policies the report reads. How and where to give feedback on Metro-11? What happens after that? The report has been uploaded on MMRC's official website, and the corporation has invited objections and suggestions from citizens and stakeholders till August 20. This public consultation process is expected to guide final decisions and any possible changes to the project design or route. Written suggestions or objections can be submitted until 6 PM on August 20, 2025 to the Director (Planning & Real Estate Development), MMRC, at the Bandra-Kurla Complex or via email. A public hearing will be held following the consultation period, with details to be announced through newspapers. view comments Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. Devendra Fadnavis launches NCM card for Mumbai Metro Line 3 passengers

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Tuesday launched the National Common Mobility Card (NCMC) for Mumbai Metro Line 3, also known as the Aqua Line, in a move to unify the city's public transport system. The contactless RuPay NCM card that can be operated from Wednesday allows passengers to ride seamlessly between Metro Line 3 stations, from Aarey JVLR to Acharya Atre Chowk, without standing in long queues at ticketing counters. It is completely interoperable with other key Mumbai Metro lines — Line 1, Line 2A, and Line 7 — along with other transportation systems like Chalo Buses, providing a smooth multi-modal travel experience. The launch was held in the presence of Deputy Chief Ministers Eknath Shinde and Ajit Pawar, Revenue Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule, Chief Secretary Sujata Saunik, and other senior officials. The initiative by the Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (MMRC) is being executed in partnership with the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) and the State Bank of India (SBI). The existing commuters who already possess NCMC cards from SBI or other players can use their cards on Line 3 from Wednesday, officials said. New riders may get a free card from any Metro Line 3 station or SBI branches that are participating, with a minimum top-up of Rs 100 and a maximum of Rs 2,000, they added. Addressing the launch, MMRC Managing Director Ashwini Bhide stated, 'The NCMC card integration in Mumbai Metro Line 3 is a significant milestone in our path towards smart and commuter-centric urban transport. Being the city's first totally underground Metro corridor, Line 3 is planned with future-proof infrastructure and this contactless payment solution with ease is an integral part of that vision. We are excited to collaborate with NPCI and SBI to facilitate a seamless, hassle-free travel experience for Mumbaikars and enable the Government of India's National Common Mobility Card programme.'

CM launches Common Mobility Card for Metro 3 commuters

MUMBAI: Starting today (June 11), Mumbai Metro passengers will be able to use the National Common Mobility Card or NCMC on the partially-operated underground Aarey-JVLR to Acharya Atre Chowk Metro 3 line. The Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation (MMRC) constructed as well as operates and maintains the Mumbai Metro 3 route. On Tuesday morning, the common mobility card was launched in Mantralaya by chief minister Devendra Fadnavis and deputy chief ministers Eknath Shinde and Ajit Pawar. This initiative allows commuters to simply tap and travel between Aarey-JVLR and Acharya Atre Chowk in Worli using the contactless cards, instead of queuing up at the ticket counters prior to each metro journey. So far, the ticketing systems of Metro 1 (Versova-Andheri-Ghatkopar), Metro 2A (Dahisar East-Andheri West) and Metro 7 (Dahisar East-Gundavali) are calibrated to permit passengers to commute using the NCMC card. Additionally, the same card can also be utilised on BEST Undertaking licensed Chalo Bus. The Mumbai Monorail as well as suburban trains continue to be out of NCMC ambit and there are no plans to accept the card in the immediate future. However, there are plans to have a common Mobility App, wherein tickets for all transport modes can be purchased through one mobile application. This was to be launched on May 1, but has been rescheduled to a later date that is yet to be announced. Existing NCMC card users can continue using their cards with effect from June 11, while the new users can purchase the NCMC card at any station from Aarey-JVLR to Acharya Atre Chowk stations of Mumbai Metro 3 and partnered State Bank of India branches. An MMRC official shared that these cards are available free of cost, with a mandatory top-up of a minimum ₹100 and up to ₹2000 for travel use. 'Integration of the NCMC card with Mumbai Metro 3 marks a significant milestone in our journey towards smart and commuter-friendly urban transport. As the city's first fully underground metro corridor, line 3 is designed with future-ready infrastructure and this seamless contactless payment solution is a vital part of that vision. We are pleased to partner with NPCI and SBI to enable a unified, convenient travel experience for Mumbaikars and support the Government of India's National Common Mobility Card initiative,' said Ashwini Bhide, managing director, MMRC, in a statement.

The card offers a secure, cashless travel solution and aims to eliminate queues at ticket counters. The launch event was held in the presence of state CM Devendra Fadnavis and DCMs Eknath Shinde and Ajit Pawar, and other top dignitaries.
