MPL: Jabalpur Royal Lions secure crucial win over Rewa Jaguars
Bhopal: Jabalpur Royal Lions secured a crucial victory against Rewa Jaguars, winning by 21 runs in the 16th match of the Madhya Pradesh League 2025. This second win of the season elevated Jabalpur to five points from five matches. Despite suffering their first defeat, Rewa maintained their top position with seven points from five matches. Jabalpur posted 185/6, whilst Rewa managed 164/6 in response. Jabalpur's innings began shakily, losing both openers before reaching 20 runs. A crucial 51-run partnership between Siddharth Patidar and Abhishek Bhandari steadied the innings. Patidar contributed 51 runs from 36 deliveries. At the start of the 17th over, Jabalpur were struggling at 116/6, requiring a substantial finish. Hrithik Tada and Sanjog provided the necessary impetus in the final four overs. Tada remained unbeaten on 45 from 22 balls, striking four boundaries and three sixes. Sanjog's unbeaten 36 from 14 deliveries included three fours and three sixes, helping reach the final total. Rewa's chase began promisingly with a 46-run opening stand. However, the required run rate gradually mounted. Prithviraj Singh Tomar's innings lost momentum after a bright start of 42 runs from 24 balls, eventually finishing with 52 from 41 deliveries. Mukul Raghav's valiant effort of 42 not out from 28 balls proved insufficient. Saransh Surana excelled with the ball for Rewa, claiming four wickets, but failed to contribute with the bat. Jabalpur's left-arm quick Pankaj Patel played a decisive role, securing four wickets to ensure victory for his side.

Gwalior Cheetas secure first win in MPL 2025, defeat Jabalpur Royal Lions by 15 runs
Bhopal: Gwalior Cheetas secured their first win in the Madhya Pradesh League 2025, defeating Jabalpur Royal Lions by 15 runs. After facing consecutive losses, Gwalior's triumph came through Rishabh Chauhan's outstanding unbeaten 93. Jabalpur, chasing 191, managed only 176 runs, marking their second loss in three matches. Gwalior's innings began shakily, losing two opening wickets at 29 runs. They reached 54 for three wickets in the powerplay. Parth Sahni and Rishabh contributed a 33-run partnership for the fourth wicket. Following Parth's dismissal, Rishabh shouldered the batting responsibility independently. Rishabh accelerated after his fifty, striking six boundaries and six maximums in his 47-ball knock. Additional support from other batsmen could have helped Gwalior surpass 200 runs. For Jabalpur's bowling, Ritesh Shakya displayed excellent control, claiming one wicket whilst conceding just 12 runs in three overs. During the chase, Jabalpur lost both openers in the powerplay despite scoring 56 runs. Siddharth Patidar and Abhishek Bhandari's 79-run stand for the third wicket kept them competitive. Patidar departed for 44 off 33 deliveries, with the score at 122 in the 14th over. Bhandari's dismissal for 53 runs from 35 balls at 143 marked Gwalior's resurgence. They dominated the final five overs with regular wickets. Mangesh Yadav emerged as Gwalior's premier bowler, claiming four wickets whilst conceding 23 runs in his quota. June 18 marks the start of women's matches with Bhopal Wolves Women versus Bundelkhand Bulls Women, followed by Jabalpur Royal Lions against Chambal Ghariyals. June 19's schedule comprises Bundelkhand Bulls Women versus Chambal Ghariyals Women, Chambal Ghariyals against Bhopal Leopards, and Indore Pink Panthers versus Gwalior Cheetahs. The fortnight-long tournament showcasing competitive cricket, will conclude on June 24.

Our aim is clear—we're playing to lift the trophy," said Venkatesh Iyer, as he prepares to lead Indore Pink Panthers. With a refreshed squad and a focused strategy, the team is looking to make a strong impact in the tournament, scheduled to be held in Gwalior from June 12 to 24. Iyer, India all-rounder and KKR vice-captain in IPL 2025, takes over as captain from Rajat Patidar in what marks a new chapter for the team. "The basic plan is always to win," Iyer told TOI. "But I've played enough cricket to understand that in a tournament like this, success comes from taking one game at a time. My first priority is to ensure every player aligns their personal goals with the team's larger mission." Calling it a "special honour" to lead his hometown team, Iyer said, "For any cricketer, it's a dream to play in front of packed stadiums. MPL has become a platform that allows young cricketers from across the state to live that dream. " This season brings a near-complete overhaul of the Panthers' line-up, with only three players retained from the previous edition. IPL pacer Kulwant Khejroliya (Gujarat Titans) has joined the squad, adding firepower to the bowling unit.
