Liverpool ready to make huge Alexander Isak bid THIS WEEK after latest transfer

Liverpool are prepared to put in a bid for Alexander Isak this week as they attempt to see whether they can get the Swedish striker out of Newcastle amid his uncertain situation Liverpool are ready to test Newcastle's resolve over Alexander Isak by making a bid for the Magpies' star striker this week amid the ongoing uncertainty over his future. ‌ Isak has made it clear to his current club that he would like to explore options away from St James' Park following the best season of his career. The 25-year-old remains on Tyneside after ruling himself out of the club's pre-season tour with a thigh injury, although transfer speculation is also thought to be a factor behind his absence. ‌ Liverpool have spent more than £200million on the likes of Florian Wirtz this summer but still have the room to invest another mammoth fee if they do want Isak - and Newcastle are having to consider the departure of their wantaway star. ‌ Eddie Howe has made it clear that the Magpies are not looking to offload their best players, but equally acknowledge the decision would rest with the board. And if offers for Isak reach the £150m mark then Newcastle may be tempted to cash in. Howe confirmed to the Daily Mail that Isak will not be joining the team in South Korea during the next seven days and Liverpool are due to be further boosted by an extra £65m that will come as a result of Luis Diaz joining Bayern Munich - a move that is close to being finalised. ‌ Newcastle may well have to choose between negotiating and ensuring they maximise their profits from the player, or refusing all offers and informing Isak he is staying despite his desire to go elsewhere. It is understood that within the camp opinion is split as to which approach is best for the club. Liverpool already have Mohamed Salah, Hugo Ekitike and Cody Gakpo among their attacking options. Darwin Nunez is expected to follow Diaz out of Anfield. Newcastle meanwhile would be losing their best player ahead of another crack at the Champions League, but Howe has remained coy when questioned. He said recently: "The club will make the right decision with all the information that it has, and ultimately to try and move the club forward in whatever way that is. Then it's up to us to make good decisions the other way and try and improve the squad as best we can. That's what we're trying to do, regardless of Alex's situation. "But I think there's a wider picture here. There's a whole football club that has to make the decision. The ownership, together with the board of directors, especially with the money involved in modern day transfers."

Newcastle haunted by Alexander Isak U-turn as broken transfer promise emerges

Newcastle could lose Alexander Isak this summer with the striker eyeing up other options - just 12 months after the Swedish forward saw a contract promise broken Newcastle face the prospect of losing Alexander Isak this summer - with the Swede telling the club he wants to explore his options away from St James' Park. ‌ The forward has become one of Europe's elite No.9s and has spearheaded the Magpies' recent rise, but is now considering a move for pastures new - with Liverpool the favourites to land the £125million-rated star. It comes a year after he thought a new contract was coming his way, only for those talks to be shelved in a move that still stings. ‌ Even before his record-breaking recent season, Isak was clearly heading towards top-class status and former co-owners Amanda Staveley and Mehrdad Ghodoussi reassured the forward and his camp in March of last year that improved terms were on the way. ‌ However a change to the hierarchy meant that promise was broken and that stung Isak. Now, with the club wanting to reward his importance with a new contract, the player is instead looking at what could be on the horizon for him away from Newcastle. It all comes back to the decision taken by former sporting director Paul Mitchell, who has since left after only spending a year in his role. The ex-Monaco and Tottenham chief told Isak that he would not be offered a new deal with the salary he wanted potentially leading to Profit and Sustainability breaches, as reported the Daily Mail. ‌ Mitchell felt that the Swede still had four years left to run on his contract - now three - and was already among the club's highest earners. It has been claimed that the decision upset Isak, with his frustration impacting on the dressing room as a whole. In light of his stellar season, where Isak scored 27 times in all competitions, including one in the Carabao Cup final, the club are ready to offer him a huge pay increase but it may be a case of too little, too late with the player making rumblings that he wants a new challenge elsewhere. Eddie Howe has confessed that any decision must benefit Newcastle, with the club potentially landing a British-record fee if Isak does leave, with the hierarchy ultimately making the final call on his future. He said: "The club will make the right decision with all the information that it has, and ultimately to try and move the club forward in whatever way that is. "But I think there's a wider picture here. There's a whole football club that has to make the decision. The ownership, together with the board of directors, especially with the money involved in modern day transfers. The manager of course has an opinion, but ultimately the decision will rest with the board." Join our new WhatsApp community and receive your daily dose of Mirror Football content. Alexander Isak: Liverpool target's sale would 'upset' Newcastle squad, says Dan Burn

Dan Burn believes that Newcastle's squad would be 'upset' to lose Alexander Isak this summer after the striker submitted a transfer request. The Magpies' star striker did not travel with his teammates for a pre-season tour of Asia yesterday. The club insists the decision was made due to a minor injury, though reports released this week claim that a scan had come back clear. It emerged on Thursday, though, that he had asked to stay behind to explore a move away from the club amid interest from Liverpool and Saudi sides. Newcastle do not want to sell, but a bid of £130m could be enough to pry him away from St James Park this summer. Speaking to Sky Sports from Newcastle's camp in Singapore, Burn admitted it would hurt to lose such an important player. 'It's a question for Alex to answer,' said the centre-back, who made his England debut in March. 'He's obviously a big player for us, but we do have a lot of quality in the squad as well. Bringing Anthony [Elanga] in as well, which I think was a great signing. 'If we lost any player it would upset our tight-knit group that's been together two, three years now. 'From our point of view, we just have to control what we can control in the moment.' He added that he hoped Isak would soon join up with the squad: 'We are looking forward to getting him back when he's fit.' Bruno Guimaraes concurred, describing Isak as a 'top striker', but maintained that he had skipped pre-season to receive treatment. 'He is a top striker, his last three seasons speak by themselves,' the Brazilian said. 'We want to keep our best players. He is a top player, but as far as I know he is in treatment with the club. 'For what we know, Isak's injury is not training for, I don't know, five days. He stayed there to make himself better, so he is there with a small injury. 'We know the situation behind him, but this is not for me to speak about, I am just a player. This is something for the club to take care of.'

Liverpool eyes blockbuster bid for Newcastle's Isak — reports

Liverpool is considering a blockbuster £120 million ($160 million) bid for Newcastle striker Alexander Isak despite the Magpies' desire to hold onto the Sweden star, according to reports on Wednesday. The Premier League champion is yet to make a formal offer for Isak but he is believed to be high on its wanted list as boss Arne Slot looks for a new forward in the wake of Diogo Jota's death. Isak joined Newcastle from Real Sociedad for £63 million in 2022, emerging as a key player for Eddie Howe's team. He scored 23 Premier League goals last season to fire the club into the Champions League for the second time in three years. Isak also scored in Newcastle's League Cup final victory over Liverpool at Wembley, which ended the Magpies' 70-year wait for a major domestic trophy. It has reportedly put a value of around £150 million on Isak in an attempt to ward off potential suitors, with Arsenal also reportedly contemplating an offer. Newcastle's majority owner, Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund, has the financial muscle to resist any approach for a player who is said not to be agitating for a move. Darwin Nunez and Federico Chiesa have also been linked with moves away from Anfield, which would increase their need to bring in a new striker. As well as its Isak interest, Liverpool has been linked with Eintracht Frankfurt's £70 million-rated forward Hugo Ekitike, who has also attracted attention from Newcastle.
