Part of Maharana Pratap statue vandalised

Lucknow: A part of the sword of the statue of Rajput king Maharana Pratap was vandalised by miscreants at Maharan Pratap crossing in Husainganj late Friday night. The upper portion of one of the two swords installed with the statue was broken, which triggered anger among residents. Police acted swiftly and reviewed CCTV footage from the area. The broken sword was repaired within three hours of the incident. Residents alleged that anti-social elements deliberately damaged the statue with the intention of theft and demanded stern action against the culprits. The renovated statue was inaugurated by CM Yogi Adityanath on May 9 to mark Maharana Pratap Jayanti. "A non-cognizable report has been lodged against unidentified people. The incident is being taken seriously, and the offenders will be arrested soon. Additional teams have been deployed to scan CCTV footage," ACP, Hazratganj, Vikas Jaiswal said.

Another viral video, another slap: Kota SHO under probe

Jaipur: Even as Rajasthan police attempt to strengthen their public image through social media outreach, a string of recent excesses continue to cast a long shadow over the force. The latest episode comes from Kota, where a Station House Officer (SHO) was caught on camera slapping a shopkeeper, who immediately collapsed, prompting a frantic response from nearby policemen. Though the incident took place a month ago, during a Maharana Pratap Jayanti rally on May 29, the video surfaced recently. The victim, identified as Rizwan, later filed a complaint against the SHO Kaithunipol Pushpendra Bansiwal. DSP Rajesh Tailor has been assigned to investigate the matter. Tailor told TOI that Rizwan was repeatedly asked to clear items he placed on the road, as a procession was scheduled to pass through. "Instead, he asked the police to change the route. While I am not justifying the SHO's conduct, we are investigating the incident fairly," he said. This incident comes close on the heels of another controversy in Jodhpur, where a constable was caught on video assaulting a café staffer and using abusive language. The constable, Kishan Singh, part of the former DST team, was suspended by the DCP (East). Singh, dressed in plain clothes, visited 'Tau Ki Tapri' near the police lines in Ratanada. An argument over a bill escalated into violence, with Singh slapping the cashier and knocking his spectacles off. Experts say Rajasthan police frequently face allegations of excessive force during interactions with civilians. Videos often go viral, prompting suspensions or transfers, but criminal proceedings against erring officers are rare. Talking to TOI, advocate AK Jain said police officers have no legal authority to use physical force on citizens unless there is active resistance during a lawful detention. "Even those in custody cannot be assaulted. Victims of police misconduct must explore legal remedies and seek compensation," Jain said.

Viral Video: Cop's slap leaves shopkeeper unconscious in Rajasthan's Kota, enrages netizens

In a shocking case from Rajasthan's Kota, a police officer allegedly slapped a shopkeeper in the middle of the road, causing him to collapse on the road unconscious. The video of police brutality has gone viral on social media, enraging netizens. This incident reportedly occurred on May 29. According to the social media post of NGO NCM India – Council For Men Affairs, Station House Officer (SHO) Pushpendra Bansiwal allegedly slapped the shopkeeper, identified as Rizwan, so hard that he lost consciousness on the spot. It has been alleged that the SHO, the NGO called 'khaki goon', asked the shopkeeper to remove a bike parked in front of his shop in the Kaithunipol area of Kota. He tried to help; however, Rizwan reportedly told him that the bike was not his and was locked, so it could not be moved. An investigation has been initiated into the matter after the victim registered a complaint against the police officer. 'What else can we expect from these Khaki Goons?' the NGO questioned in the post. The video also showed Bansiwal and other police officers dragging Rizwan while holding them by his collar. In the viral video, the cop can be seen thrusting the shopkeeper into the police jeep, which he resisted. He then slapped him so hard that the shopkeeper fell unconscious on the ground in the middle of the road as other vehicles passed close to him. According to a NDTV report, Rizwan claimed that he had recently undergone ear surgery, but the police ignored his medical condition. SHO Pushpendra Bansiwal has reportedly denied the allegations and said that the police were trying to clear the area in preparation for a rally on Maharana Pratap Jayanti. He also said that Rizwan misbehaved with the police, due to which he was taken to the police station. He denied the allegations of assault. Here's how netizens reacted: Netizens were enraged by the police brutality and asked Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajan Lal if slapping someone over a wrongly parked vehicle was justified. 'Can the honourable CM @BhajanlalBjp let us know which rule of law allows a policeman to slap someone for wrong parking? Is this really what the police personnel are trained for ,to slap someone at will so hard that the person lays down unconscious?' a social media user asked. 'The problem is that our outrage against police brutality is quite selective. If the police brutalise someone we don't approve of, we celebrate, but when the police demonstrate the same behaviour against a common person or against someone we don't particularly dislike, we feel bad. Such behaviour from police should never be encouraged because they don't know when to draw the line,' said another person. A netizen exclaimed, 'That SHO belongs in jail.' 'Enough evidence to lodge an FIR against these policemen and to take them to court. Hope some lawyer helps out the poor shop keeper and that authorities take action against that SHO,' said another.

CM Saini's surprise visit delights Karnal villagers

The residents of Karnal's Fafdana were in for a surprise as Haryana CM Nayab Singh Saini — who was on his way back from the state-level Maharana Pratap Jayanti celebrations held at Assandh's Salwan — made a pit stop at their village. Getting off his vehicle, CM Saini headed straight toward a group of villagers huddled under a tree. Wide-eyed with astonishment, the locals patiently answered every question the CM asked about the development issues being faced in the area. Later in the journey, Saini's convoy also had a stopover in Jalmana village, where he again seized the opportunity to mingle with local residents and traders. AAP pulls out all stops ahead of June 19 bypoll With the high-stakes Ludhiana (West) byelection slated for June 19 fast approaching, AAP is pulling out all stops to woo urban voters. The state Cabinet gave its nod to the land pooling policy for 27 towns and cities during a meet chaired by the CM last Monday. The following day, it okayed a proposal to waive off the loans taken by 4,727 families belonging to the SC community that amount to a staggering `68 crore. Then on Wednesday it cleared an amendment to the Punjab Shops and Commercial Establishments Act of 1958 to reduce compliance burdens on 95% of small businesses. Cracks appear in Punjab Congress leadership Even during an election season, the grand old party fails to put up a united front. Every now and then, internal rifts make headlines, much to the embarrassment of the top Congress leadership. And the party just can't catch a break! The posters released for its Ludhiana (West) candidate, Bharat Bhushan Ashu, have renewed speculation of a power play. Why? Because they notably don't feature photos of state unit president Amarinder Singh Raja Warring and Lok Sabha MP from Gurdaspur Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa. While the party may insist that all is well, the divide couldn't be more apparent. Harpreet Bajwa Our correspondent in Chandigarh hsbajwa73@

Former corporators intensify public outreach as civic polls approach

Nagpur: Following the Supreme Court's directive to the Maharashtra govt to conduct municipal elections within four months, former corporators of the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) have begun intensifying their public engagement. While many slipped into dormancy after the elected body was dissolved in March 2022, the poll announcement has revived political activity across the city. With political temperatures rising ahead of the civic polls, former representatives are actively positioning themselves as people-centric leaders — both through traditional outreach and digital platforms. As the countdown to elections begins, the city's political landscape is rapidly transforming, with ex-corporators reclaiming visibility and attempting to solidify their relevance in the eyes of voters. In the last general body, the BJP had a commanding majority with 108 corporators. Congress followed with 29 elected representatives, BSP held 10 seats, Shiv Sena had two, and NCP and independents had one seat each. Some ex-corporators stayed active even after the body's dissolution. Former Congress corporator Manoj Sangole, BJP's Pragati Patil, and independent Abha Pande consistently maintained their public presence through welfare work and grassroots campaigns. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Dermatologista recomenda: simples truque elimina o fungo facilmente Acabe com o Fungo Undo Many former corporators are now organising camps and service drives to reconnect with constituents. In Prabhag 2 in North Nagpur, a two-day voter card registration camp was held at Kapil Nagar Chowk, Nari Road, at the public relations office. The initiative was led by former corporator Dinesh Yadav under the guidance of North Nagpur MLA and ex-guardian minister Nitin Raut. Over 250 voter card applications were processed online and offline. In Prabhag 32 in South Nagpur, ex-corporator Rupali Thakur, under the leadership of MLA Mohan Mate, organised a welfare distribution camp marking Maharana Pratap Jayanti. Forty citizens received new ration cards, 18 were issued senior citizen cards, and 8 were granted tokens under the Sanjay Gandhi Niradhar Yojana. Apart from on-ground activities, ex-corporators are also leveraging social media platforms to amplify their reach and visibility. A bha Pande, the lone independent corporator in the last general body, recently updated her account highlighting development works in her former constituency. "Bhoomipujan of several development projects was conducted at Raj Rajeshwari Temple Garden in Shantinagar in the presence of local citizens," she posted, crediting the efforts to her continued commitment as "Majhi Nagarsevika" (former corporator). Speaking to TOI, Pande said claims that corporators can't function without power are false. "Even after the body was dissolved, I built roads and laid sewer lines," she said. "I approach the administrators with detailed proposals, follow up on files, and ensure that the projects get sanctioned." She added that one of her ongoing projects worth Rs1.48 crore reached the work order stage, with the bhoomipujan scheduled soon. Like Pande, many ex-corporators said that despite not holding office, they had continued to work from their local offices daily, underscoring that "public service doesn't stop with the posts."
