Hilton Bahrain Brings Pet Lovers Together for ‘Raise the Woof!' Community Gathering
A senior Arab parliamentarian has described the Gaza situation as a 'humanitarian disaster' following a visit to the Rafah crossing, as lawmakers, including Bahrain's Mamdouh Al Saleh and Dr Hisham Al Ashiri, met in Cairo for the closing session. Mohammed Al Yamahi, who chairs the Arab Parliament, said the visit laid bare the suffering in Gaza. He praised Egypt's efforts to deliver aid in coordination with the Egyptian Red Crescent, and urged the international community to act to end the violence and violations against Palestinians. The session, held at the Arab League headquarters, drew MPs from across the Arab world. Among them were the two Bahraini representatives, who reaffirmed their country's backing for the Palestinian cause. Leadership Dr Al Ashiri linked Bahrain's stance to the leadership of HM King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and the continued support of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister. 'Bahrain's position is clear,' he said. 'The Palestinian people have a right to an independent state with Jerusalem as its capital.' Al Saleh said the Kingdom's presence formed part of its effort to back Arab causes on the global stage. The session also saw the swearing-in of new members and the unopposed appointment of Saudi Shura Council member Saad bin Sulaib Al Otaibi as First Deputy Speaker. Forums Proposals to establish forums for Arab women and youth MPs were approved. Reports from the Parliament's standing committees were also adopted for submission to the relevant authorities. Dr Adel Al Maawada, from Bahrain's Shura Council, took part in the session and contributed to the work of the committee on foreign, political, and security affairs. He said the meeting showed growing Arab engagement with core issues. 'The session discussed a number of key matters,' he said, 'including developments in Palestinian territories, regional tensions, the importance of maintaining the ceasefire, avoiding military conflict, and working to keep the region free of weapons of mass destruction.' Reports Members also reviewed reports from the legal, economic, social, and Palestinian affairs committees, as well as notes from the Rafah visit and a side meeting held during the Arab Summit in Baghdad. Other items on the table included plans for a conference on the blue economy, a draft law to address irregular migration, proposals to support social enterprises and home-run businesses, and steps to improve online education across the Arab world.

Bahrain renews firm support for Independent Palestinian State
Bahrain has reaffirmed its unwavering support for the Palestinian people and their right to establish an independent state with Jerusalem as its capital. Member of Parliament Mamdouh Al Saleh, Bahrain's representative to the Arab Parliament's Palestine Committee, reiterated this commitment during a meeting held in Cairo. He emphasised both the Kingdom's official stance and the deep-rooted public support for the Palestinian cause, describing it as central to the Arab and Islamic world. 'Bahrain will continue to stand with the Palestinian people in regional and international forums,' Al Saleh said during the closing session of the first term of the Arab Parliament's fourth legislative chapter. He called on Arab parliaments to intensify efforts in defending Palestinian rights and to coordinate more closely with other legislative bodies across the world. Such collaboration, he noted, is essential to mobilise pressure for the creation of a Palestinian state in accordance with the Arab Peace Initiative and relevant UN resolutions. The session, attended by members of the Palestine Committee, addressed the latest political and humanitarian developments. Delegates strongly condemned Israeli military operations targeting Palestinian civilians, labelling them as crimes against humanity. They also rejected policies of forced displacement, land annexation, and settlement expansion, while warning of worsening humanitarian conditions in Gaza and the West Bank. Bahrain's participation in the meeting reflected a broader foreign policy vision led by His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, which, as Al Saleh highlighted, champions just peace, dialogue, and mutual respect while opposing violence and coercion. The meeting concluded with a unified call on the UN Security Council, the General Assembly, and international parliaments to take urgent action to halt ongoing violations and uphold Palestinian rights, including the right to self-determination and statehood.

Bahrain Champions E-Learning Model
TDT | Manama Bahrain's digital education journey was held up as a model for Arab nations during a key meeting of the Arab Parliament's Social, Educational, Cultural, Women and Youth Affairs Committee in Cairo, where Member of Parliament Mamdouh Al Saleh delivered a presentation on the Kingdom's e-learning legacy. Al Saleh credited the transformation to an integrated national approach rooted in the vision of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and supported by government planning and widespread community awareness. He said the Kingdom's strategy represented a forward-thinking framework for sustainable education. The MP highlighted the 2004 launch of the 'Schools of the Future' initiative by His Majesty as a turning point in modernising Bahrain's education system. The programme, initially targeting 11 secondary schools, later expanded to cover over 30 percent of intermediate schools by 2016. This laid the groundwork for Bahrain's digital classroom infrastructure. Al Saleh noted that His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, played a pivotal role by advancing national digital transformation policies that have strongly impacted the education sector. National resilience and tools He also praised the Ministry of Education and H.E. Dr Mohammed bin Mubarak Juma for launching digital platforms such as EduNet and EDUSIS, which enhanced academic coordination among students, parents, and teachers. These tools, he explained, became vital during the 2020 COVID-19 pandemic, enabling Bahrain to sustain uninterrupted learning through digital channels. According to Al Saleh, the pandemic revealed the Kingdom's readiness and the depth of stakeholder engagement across the education community, from teachers to families. From crisis response to strategy Al Saleh told Arab lawmakers that Bahrain's e-learning approach was not simply a response to global emergencies but part of a long-term national plan to build a digital, knowledge-based society. He urged Arab countries to examine Bahrain's model as an example of how state leadership, ministerial implementation, and public engagement can combine to drive sustainable innovation in education.

MPs vote to limit foreign work permits amid government and labour authorities' concerns
MPs voted yesterday to impose a legal cap on foreign work permits, advancing the measure despite concerns from the government and labour authorities that it could prove counterproductive. The bill, which now moves to the Shura Council for further examination, would amend Article 4 of the 2006 law regulating Bahrain's labour market by replacing a discretionary clause with one that makes a cap compulsory. The change, if enacted, would require the Ministry of Labour to include a fixed limit within the national labour plan. Coordination This must be done in coordination with the Labour Market Regulatory Authority (LMRA) and with the approval of the Cabinet. The plan is due every four years, although it may be revised more frequently if needed. Debate in the chamber was direct and, at times, charged. Crowded villages MP Mamdouh Al Saleh warned that expat workers were crowding villages, placing pressure on infrastructure and shifting the character of local communities. He spoke of packed hospitals, congested roads and overcrowded homes. His argument was that the issue had moved beyond numbers and had become a matter of public strain. Visa system MP Jalal Kadhem said the visa system had become rife with abuse. He pointed to small businesses obtaining multiple trade licences and then acquiring permits in bulk, sometimes two, four or even eight, without proving real demand. 'The rule allowing two foreign permits for every Bahraini hire has pushed numbers far beyond what the market can carry,' he said. MP Khaled Buanaq focused on safety and enforcement.
