Police address findings on death of rising motocross star Aidan Zingg
Police have found "nothing criminal" in the death of 16-year-old motocross star Aidan Zingg, according to Sgt. Jason Heilman of the Mammoth Lakes Police Department. Two days after Zingg died June 28 after a mid-race crash on the dirt track about 300 miles north of Los Angeles, the Mammoth Lakes (California) Police Department announced it would investigate. Almost three weeks later, Heilman told USA TODAY Sports that police are wrapping up the investigation. 'There's nothing criminal,'' Heilman said on Friday, July 18. 'Just an unfortunate accident.'' As far as completing the investigation, Heilman said, 'I just got to complete one final little report there and then we'll officially close it. … It took a little while to finish this thing out because we don't want to just bombard the family with questions and whatnot.'' On June 30, Aidan parents, Bob and Shari, told USA TODAY Sports that they welcomed the police investigation as they dealt with conflicting reports over what happened during the crash at the 2025 Big Bike Weekend Mammoth Motocross. Bob Zingg said the head of event safety told them Aidan was involved in a crash 'by himself" but that two riders said another rider was involved. 'They'll never get complete closure," Heilman said. 'Losing a child like that's going to be tough." Heilman said the reports from the investigation will be forwarded to the Mono County Sheriff's Office, which is conducting an autopsy of Aidan. The Sheriff's Office has released no information, but Zingg's mother told USA TODAY Sports that Aidan died from "cardiac tamponade." Cardiac tamponade, according to the Cleveland Clinic, "describes a heart that has so much fluid around it that it can't pump enough blood. The force of this fluid makes it hard for your heart to do its job." A healthcare provider has to remove the extra fluid with a needle or surgery, according to the clinic, which reports, 'You need quick treatment for a good outcome.''

Haley Joel Osment heard on video hurling racist slur during arrest at ski resort
Former child star Haley Joel Osment hurled a racist slur during his arrest for public intoxication at a California ski resort last week, according to bodycam video released Thursday. An arresting officer reported Haley was acting belligerent and throwing Jewish epithets at police when he was taken into custody on April 8 at Mammoth Mountain, law enforcement sources told TMZ. Bodycam footage later obtained by the outlet appears to back up those claims, showing Osment calling a cop the 'K' word, while also referring to him as a 'f—ing Nazi.' Additional video shows the moment officers with the Mammoth Lakes Police Department discovered what they say was cocaine in Osment's possession. The 37-year-old actor was formally charged on Thursday with disorderly conduct under the influence of alcohol and possession of cocaine, nine days after cops received a call reporting an 'intoxicated person' creating a disturbance on the slopes of Mammoth. Separate video taken at the resort, also obtained by TMZ, shows the Oscar-nominated 'Sixth Sense' star causing a scene at a chair lift, where he can be seen with his helmet on backwards. 'I mean, the backwards helmet is a dead giveaway,' one onlooker says offscreen, while another suggests Osment 'had a little too much.' Multiple people can be heard shouting for the actor to get out of the line, yelling that someone should call security. Eventually, a crewmember who'd been standing beside Osment waves at him to follow her out of the area. The actor was then held by ski patrol staff until police arrived at the scene. 'He couldn't take care of himself,' one staff member told police, as heard in the bodycam clips. 'He went to the bar, ordered one drink, and was so intoxicated that he spilled it. And then he got cut off.' The footage shows Osment later being escorted into the police station, where he reportedly spent the night before being released the next day, according to Us Weekly. He's scheduled to be arraigned on July 7 in Mono County Superior Court. Osment's arrest was not his first brush with the law. In 2018, authorities were called to a Las Vegas airport after Osment allegedly lashed out at American Airlines staff when he missed a flight. In 2006, Osment was charged with DUI and possession of marijuana after driving his car into a mailbox. The then-18-year-old was sentenced to three years probation and ordered to 60 hours in an alcohol rehabilitation and education program, CBS News reported at the time. Sources told TMZ on Thursday that Osment has been struggling in recent months after losing his home in the Southern California wildfires in January.

Haley Joel Osment arrested on suspicion of public intoxication at popular ski resort
Actor Haley Joel Osment's recent trip to a California ski resort included more than just snowy slopes: a run-in with law officials and his arrest were also in store. The 37-year-old 'Blink Twice' and 'The Sixth Sense' star was arrested April 8 on suspicion of public intoxication and possession of an unidentified controlled substance in Mammoth Lakes, according to People and TMZ. Sgt. Jason Heilman of the Mammoth Lakes Police Department confirmed to People that the former child star, the brother of 'Young Sheldon' actor Emily Osment, was booked and 'is no longer in custody.' Law enforcement received a call about an allegedly intoxicated individual at the popular Mammoth Mountain ski resort, according to TMZ, which first reported the arrest on Wednesday. Ski patrollers were with Osment when police arrived to the resort, the website said. A representative for the Mammoth Lakes Police Department did not immediately respond to The Times' request for confirmation Thursday. The Times also did not immediately hear back from representatives for Osment. Osment, best known for his haunting performance in M. Night Shyamalan's 'Sixth Sense,' first faced legal troubles in 2006 when he was charged with misdemeanor drunk driving after crashing his car in La Cañada Flintridge. More than a decade later, Osment sparked a police response in 2018 for allegedly making verbal threats to American Airlines staff in the Las Vegas airport after missing his flight. Police received a call about the 'unruly passenger' but did not make contact with the 'Poker Face' actor. Earlier this year, Osment was among the thousands of Angelenos who lost their homes in the devastating wildfires that ravaged parts of Southern California in January. Emily Osment said in a January Instagram post that their parents also lost their home in the Eaton fire. Amid the January blazes, Haley Joel Osment wrote in a since-expired Instagram story: 'My heart would be so full every time I drove home - it was such a special place — I loved living there — our forest and our mountains and our homes — all gone.'
