Good Boy – K-drama Episode 12 Recap & Review
Foul Episode 12 of Good Boy starts with us seeing a rare sight – Jae-hong. The guy who has been absent for much of the season's biggest talking points but here he gets his time to shine during the moments at his discus event. Unfortunately, he's not successful like the others. Dong-ju shows up to help him out after though, commiserating him by holding an umbrella from the rain and not saying a word, wanting to be there for him. This bitter taste of defeat cuts us back to the present, where Ju-yeong is determined to get his revenge. He rings Dong-ju and apologizes for underestimating him but it's also worked to get the stagnant fires burning again. Now that he knows this is back to him fighting for scraps and playing dirty, he's relishing going back to basics and getting his hands dirty. This is not dissimilar to how he handled that smuggler from the past. Remember the watch he gave Ju-yeong? Well, it turns out it was a fake and when Ju-yeong found out, he beat the guy down to a bloody pulp outside, taking the real watch for himself. This sets up the stakes for the fight to come, as the news is abuzz with the 26 tons of cash that Man-sik and his team have seized from the containers. The President's office rings but Man-sik and the others play hardball after how unhelpful the police have been. Word is that they're actually taking Golden Bunny to the Supreme Prosecutors' Office to testify. This is good for them, as they can't get Insung to manipulate the case in any way. The group want to celebrate so they head over to Jae-hong's place. Ju-yeong and the gang have a very different reaction to the news about Golden Bunny. There's in-fighting and doubts. Yeon-ha is ready to walk away, despite making all that Candy for him. She actually slaps him in the face when he threatens to hurt her sister. While Jae-hong is accepted for his loan, Dong-ju is not doing so hot. He passes out at the gym and palms off his medical issues when Han-na questions him. He lies about the blood on his shirt, claiming it's kimchi brine. They don't have long to think about this though, as Man-sik has organized for the group to set up base at the Pawnshop. They're determined to build a proper case against Ju-yeong now, gathering evidence and doing what they can while he's on the back-foot. Jae-hong takes some paid time off to help, thanks in part to being approved for the loan, and joins the group in the investigation. However, they're soon called out when they receive reports about bad drugs in Insung. This is obviously Yeon-ha and Ju-yeong's doing. Dong-ju spies Drug Demon walking (see: stumbling weakly) away from the scene and she eventually collapses. Turns out her sugar levels are way down, given she's diabetic. Just like before, she's captured and put into handcuffs after Dong-ju helps get her sugar levels up. Naturally, she escapes… again. Jae-hong and Dong-ju are then tasked with heading over to the Myeongjin Shopping District, given the drugs have been doing the rounds. While they're out and about, Jae-hong receives another message, confirming that the earlier loan has actually been declined due to 'unforeseen issues'. This is Jong-gu's doing, and he's asked for additional documents. While Jae-hong is busy dealing with this, Dong-ju is attacked by thugs but this time, his medical condition gets the better of him. He can barely fight back and he completely underestimates Jong-gu too, who has a pretty stiff right hook. He hits right where it hurts too, claiming Dong-ju is 'punch drunk' and belittling him completely. He's eventually taken away, and when our group catch wind of this, they're shocked. Unfortunately, Dong-ju is taken to Ju-yeong and left a bloody mess inside a shipping container. With our antagonist now aware of Dong-ju's medical condition, they inject him with a lethal dose and leave him to die. However, Yeon-ha is here and given he saved her life beforehand, she reciprocates. She tells him to hold on for 10 minutes, and once they're moving in the container, gives him the antidote to counteract the effects of this drug. Dong-ju does eventually manage to escape and runs away, thanks in part to Yeon-ha's assistance, who switches sides and helps him out. Killing kids is a step too far, even for the Drug Demon. Unfortunately, Insung is not like other towns and this time, there's no getting away from Ju-yeong's thugs. Dong-ju is stabbed in the gut and the news even report him as a dangerous fugitive too. This also has the added bonus of allowing the group to realize exactly where he is and work to try and get him before Insung's crooked cops do. Dong-ju is heading for Eungcheon-dong, which is where Man-sik is going. Unfortunately, things are made that much worse when Ju-yeong decides to put a huge bounty on Dong-ju's head. With the police after him legally, every gangster in the area are now after him illegally too, tightening the noose around him. It's Jong-hyeon who manages to find him first, but Dong-ju is bleeding out and struggling. Yeon-ha shows up just after and actually helps patch him up and encourages Jong-hyeon to take him to the hospital so he can be detoxed. Man-sik suggests they move him to Seongjin City first because Insung is way too hot right now. Mr Baek almost gets them on the road too, while Leo shows up to see Sergei, who's currently hanging with Gwang-se. Unfortunately, Sergei meets a sticky end here. It's worth noting we don't know if our Bald Eagle survives this time or not. Jong-hyeon is in a rough way too after his car is T-boned so he reluctantly calls his brother and asks for help. In fact, he even offers to hand over his shares in exchange for this favour too. Jong-hyeon's brother eventually goes for it, and Dong-ju sees a doctor. As he does, the group show up and help him out. This fight is obviously not going to end anytime soon, but Han-na is prepared to speed things along. She packs up her stuff and heads over to Insung to confront Ju-yeong. The Episode Review So this entire episode sees the pendulum swing back in favour of Ju-yeong once again. Sure, he's losing his money but he's still just as dangerous as he was before. In fact, it's almost like Ju-yeong has shed his cool exterior and we're seeing his 'final form' now and he's prepared to scrap it out to the death. Of course, a lot of the problems stem from the fact that Dong-ju just doesn't have the same resources and manpower that Ju-yeong does. In fact, this episode we see that he barely breaks a sweat while turning an entire city against Dong-ju. How do you fight back against that? This definitely has elements of John Wick about it, but the interesting wildcard here is Yeon-ha, who's now working with our group. Once again though the police underestimate the Drug Demon and she manages to escape, while we do get a rehash of the familiar pattern of having our group take one step forward before being slammed back and taking two steps backward. Even with this in mind though, there's enough here to sink your teeth into and Good Boy's ending certainly looks like it's about to tighten the screw going into the final few weeks. Good Boy – K-drama Episode 10 Recap & Review
Time-Out Episode 10 of Good Boy starts with Jong-hyeon shot and falling in the water. Dong-ju dives in and brings his comrade to the surface, while the gangsters all race away at the sound of sirens. Jong-hyeon is rushed to hospital and the team are left with the obligatory waiting room scene, twiddling their thumbs and hoping for the best. Jong-hyeon is moved to intensive care and it appears he's going to pull through. Dong-ju though is still suffering from his neurological issues, but he hasn't told the rest of the team about this yet. Jong-hyeon does regain consciousness but it seems he's going to be out of commission for a while. Dong-ju also realizes when Jong-hyeon hurt his ankle and it seems his condition is even worse now. Ju-young rings the Mayor of Insung but he ignores the call. This obviously irks our antagonist, so he shows up at a big dinner meeting and spoils the party. Ju-young tortures the Mayor into submission, forcing him to send out the Customs department to the dock while also stuffing cash into his mouth. Man-sik is on the back foot too, regretting putting the team together and blaming himself for getting greedy. Unfortunately, their team is also under investigation and unfortunately their department is disbanded. Fast forward 3 months and Jong-hyeon is cleared to leave the hospital. He learns here that all of his colleagues had initially been suspended and now are off working separate gigs. Jae-hong is back working with the traffic police, while Man-sik is stuck dealing with domestic disputes. Han-na has a very unsatisfying records room gig while Dong-ju is on cleaning duty. He's staying with Man-sik for the time being though, and here we see why. Man-sik actually took pity on Dong-ju in the past and realized he didn't have much of a family growing up. After all those fights at school, Manp-ik is the one who encouraged him to get into boxing and channel his anger. Man-sik has always stood by this kid's side, offering up ways to help him when he's lost or fallen. Han-na arrives to see Jong-hyeon at hospital, bringing up what happened between them. He admits he probably should have told her how bad his ankle injury was at the time but would it have made a difference to their relationship? Either way, Jong-hyeon is clearly still pining over her and he gives no illusions that he wants her. Meanwhile, Yeon-ha shows up to see Ju-young. However, he has the upper-hand, given he knows about Yeon-ha's sister and promises that she'll see her very soon… when he last batch of Candy is done. There's a super awkward moment when Ju-young shows up to se Dong-ju next and decides the pair should share a meal together. What begins in jest ends up as a super awkward moment together. Ju-young encourages him to stop fighting as he'll just end up a punching bag forever, but we know that Dong-ju is not going down without a fight, and he'll continue to hit back every chance he has. As for Han-na, she continues to investigate the Black Cat links she heard Leo mention before. Now, the Black Cat Mob organization were operating in the Russian Far East with a famous smuggler who went by the name of Oh Dollar. The guy died 15 years ago though so it could be the Russian mobster killed. Working in the records room, Han-na looks through the Oh Dollar case file, listed as 'Smuggle Oh Bong-chan' and learns that the cause of death is presumed to be a gunshot to the head. As for Dong-ju, he does his best to take out Ju-young's goons, targeting them thanks to the watches and doing what he can to disrupt Ju-young's business. He targets each illegal business one by one, getting them shut down and the operations suspended. The other team members see the news reports and realize Dong-ju is back on the prowl. He's down but certainly not out, and as he heads to the next spot, he prepares to strike. The Episode Review So as we cross the halfway point of the show it's starting to become clear that the series is falling into a one-note stereotype, with the group being beaten up and knocked down with absolutely zero plot progression. In fact, episode 10 jumps forward several months and still nothing has changed. If anything, Ju-young is even more powerful than he was before and the rest of the group have been taken off the case, even though they seem to be the only ones who actually care about taking these criminals down. The action is definitely keeping this one watchable though and some of the cliffhangers have been genuinely impressive and well delivered. This, alongside the acting, are the two main drives to keep watching this one. It's still disappointing that Jae-hong hasn't had much development, while the antagonists have an overwhelming amount of plot armour. I'm hoping that now Dong-ju is taking out the 'watch goons', he'll slowly start to take out the gang leaders one by one, allowing Ju-young's empire to crumble. In some ways, this does feel a bit reminiscent to Itaewon Class, where the Chairman was just so powerful and the only way to stop him was for someone on the inside to make a last second babyface turn and join the good guys to take him down. Could we see this same plot point with Yeon-ha? Either way, Good Boy has been a solid watch but episodes like this, which feature barely any plot progression at all, definitely hold this back from being a better watch. Good Boy – K-drama Episode 2 Recap & Review
Episode 2 Episode 2 of Good Boy continues with the star athletes dueling gangsters and thugs. Ultimately, Dong-ju manages to counter the entire gang at the warehouse, defeating the Golden Bunny as well. At the same time, Man-sik arrives at the location with backup, and they arrest the gang, making Dong-ju an instant hero thanks to his triumph over the Golden Bunny. Meanwhile, Han-na shoots most of her attackers, and Jong-hyun arrives at her house to find them on the floor, hit with paintballs. At the station, the entire athlete squad quickly becomes a sensation. That night, while heading home, Dong-ju meets his brother. It's clear his brother is suffering from the effects of drug use, and Dong-ju urges him to undergo a surgery that could help. However, his brother disappears in the middle of the night, which Dong-ju suspects is the doing of his former coach, the man who got his brother addicted in the first place. The next day, sensing an opportunity to ride their success, Man-sik convinces the commissioner to form a special unit of pro athletes to solve criminal cases. Surprisingly, they're given their own cabin, and the team is thrilled to finally work in the field, all except Jong-hyun. While questioning the Golden Bunny, Dong-ju notices the golden watch on his wrist, the same one worn by the hit-and-run culprit. Before they can interrogate him further, they discover that the commissioner formed the special unit more as a PR stunt than an actual investigative team. The athletes soon find themselves at a public event where the commissioner promotes a new line of bulletproof and knife-proof jackets. He infantilizes Han-na, making her demonstrate by shooting at dummies, until she turns and shoots directly at the commissioner out of frustration, fracturing one of his ribs. She resigns soon after. Trying to protect Han-na, Jong-hyun suggests that the commissioner spin the incident as a staged stunt. The commissioner agrees. The next day, with Han-na absent, Man-sik receives a tip about the people who took the documents. He heads out with Dong-ju and Jae-hong and meets Jong-hyun there, who also received a lead. However, things go sideways when Man-sik, having eaten a drugged candy, becomes intoxicated and accidentally alerts the gangsters. What follows is a hilarious chase, with Man-sik acting like a zombie and scaring the thugs away. During the chaos, Jong-hyun battles one of the thugs for the documents but suffers a panic attack triggered by a past incident during his fencing match. Just as the thug is about to stab Jong-hyun, Man-sik steps in under the influence and takes the hit. Eventually, the man escapes with the documents, and Dong-ju rushes Man-sik to the hospital, pushing him in a shopping cart for 30 minutes due to a traffic jam. Elsewhere, a man tortures Dong-ju's brother, Gyeong-il, into confessing to the hit-and-run crime. We also learn that Dong-ju's former coach is involved in the case. The next day, when Dong-ju returns to the office, he sees Gyeong-il being arrested. Gyeong-il has confessed. Dong-ju keeps this from their mother. He then attends the funeral of the hit-and-run victim and spots someone wearing the same watch he saw on the driver of the hit-and -run case. He takes the list of visitors and checks each one in the customs department, where the victim used to work, until he identifies Min Ju-yeong as the real culprit behind the hit-and-run, the man who forced Gyeong-il to take the fall. The Episode Review The latest episode of Good Boy raises the stakes by introducing Gyeong-il and making him Ju-yeong's scapegoat. The show clearly defines its protagonists and antagonists, making it easy for viewers to empathize with Dong-ju. Beyond that, the series continues to build on the characters' personalities, traumas, and pasts, adding a compelling layer to this action-comedy. One of the most enjoyable sequences is the hilarious chaos that follows Man-sik's drug-induced hallucinations. With nods to K-dramas like Sweet Home and Happiness, the scene delivers sharp comedic relief. Such carefully constructed and directed slapstick moments are among Good Boy's strengths. Along with its tight direction and thrilling action, the show leaves us eager to see where the story goes next. Good Boy Episode 1 Sneak Peek: Park Bo Gum stirs trouble in hometown, Kim So Hyun shuts him down, know when and where to watch
The wait is almost over for K-drama fans as the much-anticipated series Good Boy is all set to premiere on May 31 on Amazon Prime Video. A newly released preview of the first episode offers a high-octane glimpse into a world where athletic champions become rookie cops. They bring discipline and fighting spirit to the frontlines of crime-fighting. Good Boy revolves around five former national athletes. Once the pride of the nation, they are now trying to navigate life as newly recruited police officers. With medals no longer around their necks, they must confront a new kind of battlefield filled with corruption and injustice. At the heart of this unique team is Yoon Dong Joo, played by Park Bo Gum. He is a former Olympic gold medalist with a sharp mind and unwavering tenacity. In the first episode preview, we see Dong Joo returning to his hometown of Inseong City. He enters the police force under a special fast-track program for elite athletes. But rather than being celebrated for his achievements, he is immediately met with suspicion and ridicule. Members of the local police department question his qualifications, and a misunderstanding leads to his first disciplinary hearing before he even begins work. Dong Joo is reluctantly assigned to the team led by Go Man Sik (played by Heo Sung Tae), a gruff but seasoned detective. Although Man Sik had hoped the former athlete might give the team a strategic edge, those expectations quickly crumble. Dong Joo makes a major blunder that jeopardizes their chance of solving a high-profile case nicknamed the 'Golden Rabbit' investigation. However, Dong Joo's Olympic spirit remains unshaken. Humiliated after being dragged through the mud (literally) during an encounter with a hit-and-run suspect, he channels his frustration into motivation. In a striking moment, he dons a custom mouthguard inscribed with the word 'JUSTICE' and charges forward. He looks determined to prove that he's more than a fallen sports star. Meanwhile, Dong Joo's arrival stirs up various relationships within the department. He crosses paths with Ji Han Na (played by Kim So Hyun), a dedicated officer with a stern personality. When Dong Joo tries to express his excitement about working alongside her, Han Na curtly shuts him down, saying, 'Not interested.' Their cold chemistry hints at potential tension or perhaps a future connection. Things get even more complicated when Dong Joo encounters Kim Jong Hyun (played by Lee Sang Yi). He is an internal affairs officer who seems to have unresolved history with him. Their awkward interaction suggests that past grievances may soon resurface, possibly forming a rivalry or love triangle. Adding to the eclectic team are Shin Jae Hong (played by Tae Won Suk) and Man Sik. Each brings their own baggage and quirks. Despite their clashing personalities, the group begins to bond over shared experiences, forming an unlikely alliance affectionately dubbed the Goodvengers. The preview also highlights a mix of comedy and heart. Dong Joo's clumsy but endearing rookie mistakes set the tone for his chaotic entry into police life. Meanwhile, his reluctant mentor Man Sik, who frequently yells his name in frustration, adds to the emotional rollercoaster the series promises. But when Dong Joo lands himself in a life-threatening situation, it's Man Sik who's seen pleading for help on his behalf. This shows how quickly their relationship evolves from irritation to genuine concern. The first episode premieres on May 31, and judging by the preview, Good Boy is shaping up to be one of the standout releases of the season. With its perfect mix of action, humor, heart, and a dash of romance, the drama offers something for every type of viewer.
