Union Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi likens Chirag Paswan to Mahabharat's Abhimanyu

ANI 14 Jul 2025, 20:04 GMT+10 New Delhi [India], July 14 (ANI): Union Minister and Hindustani Awam Morcha (Secular) chief Jitan Ram Manjhi on Monday drew a pointed comparison from the Mahabharata to address Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) leader Chirag Paswan's criticism of the law and order situation in Bihar. He said that young leaders sometimes fail to grasp the full complexity of governance. Speaking to ANI, Manjhi said, 'Sometimes even trustworthy people don't understand the situation and make statements about it. Chirag Paswan is a good leader in the NDA, but he's young. Young people sometimes don't understand the nuances and make statements. Just like I said in a tweet today, Abhimanyu was described as a warrior and it was said that he would definitely break the Chakravyuh. He moved forward with all his might, but something was lacking - he didn't understand that he shouldn't have entered it like that.' Manjhi was responding to Chirag Paswan's recent remarks amid rising incidents of violent crimes in Bihar, where the latter questioned how many more lives the people of the state would have to sacrifice. Reacting to tweets and statements by RJD leaders, including Lalu Prasad Yadav and Tejashwi Yadav, Manjhi said,'Lalu Prasad Yadav has no right to speak on the law and order situation in Bihar. The law and order situation in Bihar is not as bad as in other states. Quick action is taken to control the law and order situation in Bihar. It seems that the incidents happening in Bihar right now are politically motivated. Why did such incidents not happen before?' On the issue of NDA's pending seat-sharing formula for the upcoming Assembly elections and Chirag Paswan's earlier assertion that LJP(RV) is preparing to contest all 243 seats. 'I don't take his statement otherwise because every party works on the ground, not thinking they'll contest only two or three seats - they work for all the seats,' Manjhi said. (ANI)

"ECI doing a very good job": Union Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi backs Bihar's voter list revision

ANI 14 Jul 2025, 20:04 GMT+10 New Delhi [India], July 14 (ANI): Union Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi on Monday backed the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of poll bound Bihar's electoral rolls, saying that it is the responsibility of the government and the Election Commission to investigate any discrepancies in the voter list and that the poll panel is 'doing a very good job.' The Union Minister's remarks come amid EC sources saying that a large number of individuals from Nepal, Bangladesh and Myanmar have been found by Booth Level Officers (BLOs) with Aadhaar cards, domicile certificates and ration cards during house-to-house visits carried out as part of the SIR of electoral rolls in poll-bound Bihar. Union Minister Manjhi also alleged that the opposition has been opposed to the revision because they themselves are 'taking political advantage of these fake voters.' 'It is the responsibility of the government and the Election Commission of India to investigate the discrepancies in the voter list...I have been raising the issue that people from outside (people from Bangladesh, Myanmar) are living illegally in Bihar. Only those people should have the right to vote who are residents of Bihar,' the union minister told ANI. Praising the poll panel for the voter list revision, he alleged that the Opposition leaders have objected to revision because they are taking advantage of the 'fake voters.' 'The Election Commission of India is doing a very good job. The opposition leaders who are opposing the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise mean that they are taking political advantage of these fake voters,' he said. The state will have Assembly polls later in the year. The Election Commission of India (ECI) said that till Saturday evening, 80.11 per cent of electors in Bihar submitted their forms, adding that the commission is moving ahead to complete the collection of Enumeration Forms (EFs) before the stipulated time of July 25. In Madhya Pradesh's Nishad Outreach, A BJP Push For Bihar Polls

Aiming to hit two targets with one arrow ahead of the Bihar elections, the BJP-led Madhya Pradesh government on Saturday organised its first-ever event named after Nishadraj, a friend of Lord Ram in the Ramayana who helped him, Laxman and Sita cross the river Ganga in his boat during their period of exile. The event, for the largely fishing-dependent Nishad community, is significant because the Nishads also have a big presence in Bihar. While the conference focused on fishery development and socio-economic support for the Nishad community, its political undertones were unmistakable, especially since the Nishad and Manjhi vote banks are decisive players in nearly 45 of Bihar's 243 Assembly seats in Bihar. Chief Minister Mohan Yadav made it clear in his address that this was not just a welfare initiative, but a cultural and emotional connect. Referring to Nishadraj, Mr Yadav said: "Maharaj Nishadraj, the devoted friend of Lord Shri Ram, was the first to recognise his divinity. Our fishermen brave the water's depths for their livelihood. This is an act of immense courage and tradition, and it deserves recognition." The BJP hopes that this outreach from a party-ruled state will serve as an example of inclusion and empowerment not just in Bihar, but also in Uttar Pradesh, where the Nishad community plays a key role as well, and where elections will be held in 2027. The party has been actively cultivating ties with migrants and communities from Bihar living in Madhya Pradesh. Earlier this year, the BJP celebrated Bihar Day with grand programmes under the "Ek Bharat - Shreshtha Bharat" campaign, with the presence of top leaders, including Chief Minister Mohan Yadav and then BJP state president VD Sharma. Now, with the Nishadraj Sammelan, the party is tapping into cultural identity and livelihood concerns to bolster support in Bihar. The Sammelan wasn't just symbolic, it came with big-ticket announcements: Fisherman Credit Cards were distributed to 2 lakh families, 453 Smart Fish Parlours will be set up with an investment of Rs 22.65 crore. 3,360 Cage Fish Farming Units will be started at the Indira Sagar Dam with an outlay of Rs 92 crore, a state-of-the-art Aqua Park will be opened in Bhopal at a cost of Rs 40 crore and a Modern Hatchery will be set up for fish seed production at a cost of Rs 217 crore, aimed at reducing reliance on Bengal. Mr Yadav declared fish farming as a new-age industry, emphasising modernisation, skill development, and youth employment. While the previous BJP chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan had marked Fishermen Welfare Day every year on July 10, the Sammelan marked a more strategic shift - from ceremonial to tactical. By invoking Nishadraj's legacy and backing it with tangible welfare programs, the Yadav government is setting a development-cum-outreach template. The symbolic proposal to install a grand statue of Lord Nishadraj in Sairspata, Bhopal, only strengthens the intent.

Opinions divided over special poll roll revision

PATNA: Nanhaki Manjhi, a resident of Bishunpur Basant alias Subhai village in Bihar's Vaishali district, has doubts that the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in the state will be completed on time. Even if the exercise is completed within timeframe, the final list of eligible voters will be full of errors, he said. Manjhi, who is in his early 30s, said, 'The EC's exercise is not going to benefit people anyway. Rather it has left people in the lurch. People are busy in collecting papers to prove that they are bonafide citizens. Many of us are engaged in agriculture work for it being a rainy season. Moreover, the exercise is being carried out when elections are barely three-four months away.' Manjhi apprehended that the exercise may be a ploy to delay elections and impose President's rule in state by the Centre. 'There are chances of large discrepancies in preparation of fresh electoral rolls. These discrepancies can't be done away in such a short time. Many eligible voters will be left out and denied exercising their franchise,' he said.

Indian minister Manjhi highlights MSME growth, credit surge in FY25

Indian MSME Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi has highlighted the rapid strides made by the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) sector. He was addressing a press conference in Mumbai on July 4, 2025, following his review visits to IDEMI and the Khadi & Village Industries Commission (KVIC) offices on July 3. Calling MSMEs the second largest contributor to India's economy, Manjhi noted that the sector contributes 30.1 per cent to the country's GDP, 35.4 per cent to manufacturing, and 45.73 per cent to exports. The Minister shared that the Udyam portal, which enables paperless registration for MSMEs, now has over 3.80 crore units registered, the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, said in a release. Additionally, the Udyam Assist Portal—launched to formalise informal micro-enterprises—has recorded over 2.72 crore units. Together, these 6.5 crore MSMEs have created employment for 28 crore people. The number of MSME units has grown fifteen-fold in the past five years, he stated. Indian MSME Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi has highlighted the sector's growth, noting its 30.1 per cent GDP share and 6.5 crore units employing 28 crore people. He cited record credit guarantees (~$36 billion in FY25), PMEGP's rural job impact, and the MSME Samadhaan portal's reduced backlog. He praised KVIC and others, reaffirming support for artisans via PM Vishwakarma. Highlighting government support schemes, Manjhi said the Prime Minister Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP) has facilitated employment for 80.33 lakh individuals, with 80 per cent of the beneficiaries in rural India. Under the Credit Guarantee Scheme, over 1.18 crore guarantees worth ₹9.80 lakh crore (~$117.6 billion) have been approved so far, with a record ₹3 lakh crore (~$36 billion) credit guarantees extended in fiscal 2025 (FY25) alone. The number of beneficiaries is expected to triple by 2029. He added that the MSME Samadhaan portal, designed to resolve delayed payment issues, has seen its case backlog drop from 93,000 in October 2017 to 44,000 at present. The Minister also lauded institutions like KVIC, the Coir Board, and the National Small Industries Corporation Ltd for their efforts in promoting small industries and contributing to GDP and exports. He reaffirmed the government's commitment to empowering artisans through initiatives like the PM Vishwakarma scheme, which supports 18 traditional trades with end-to-end assistance.
