Superman first reactions are overwhelmingly positive, call David Corenswet film '180 degrees away' from Man of Steel
James Gunn's Superman reboot is all set to fly into the theatres next month worldwide. The heavily anticipated film marks the third reboot of the Superman franchise on the big screen in the last 20 years after the Brandon Routh film and Henry Cavill in the DC Extended Universe. A special preview screening of the film was held for select fans and reviewers last week, and the first reactions have now emerged online, with them being overwhelmingly positive. Superman first reactions are out, and it seems like James Gunn's reboot is out there to impress. The first 30 minutes of the film were recently shown to fans and journalists, first in Brazil and then in Manila, as part of the film's promotional tour. Both these screenings of Superman took place last week, with director James Gunn and lead David Corenswet also watching with the audience. Many of the viewers then took to social media, and it is clear they were impressed by what they saw. Viewers praised the visual aesthetics of James Gunn's Superman. One viewer wrote that the film is 'damn beautiful' and time 'flew by' as he watched it, implying that the film kept the viewers engaged. Sharing some pictures and videos from the Brazil screening, they wrote, 'No way I saw the first 30 minutes of Superman after feeling so hopeless the entire day. Needless to say it was DAMN BEAUTIFUL. Time absolutely flew by…' First reactions said Superman's tone is very DC Silver Age. Many assessments of the film's first 30 minutes emphasised its light tone, vastly different from the dark take from Zack Snyder in Man of Steel. "It's very Silver-Age. It's got a lot of those sci-fi tropes. It's big in spectacle, drama, and laughs. Big in its heart. A very earnest film," read one review. There were comparisons with Zack Snyder's Man of Steel. Another X user wrote, "A friend saw @JamesGunn's SUPERMAN today. He said it's 180 degrees away from @ZackSnyder's vision. He told me A LOT of too much. He said the trailers have been a bit of a misdirect. But the most important thing really, really liked it." Praise for David Corenswet There is also praise for David Corenswet's performance as Superman, particularly how the actor switches from the superhero to his alter ego, Clark Kent. "The first 30 mins of #Superman is so fcking good! A fresh new perspective to take the character! David is SO GOOD switching from Clark to Superman and the chemistry with Rachel," wrote another viewer. Directed by James Gunn, Superman is meant to launch the new DC Universe. The film also stars Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, along with Edi Gathegi, Anthony Carrigan, Nathan Fillion, and Isabela Merced. The film releases in theatres on July 11.

Nicholas Hoult had 'awkward' moment meeting David Corenswet while auditioning to play Superman
Nicholas Hoult found it "very awkward" to audition to play Superman "on the same day" as David Corenswet. The 35-year-old actor is playing the Man of Steel's arch-nemesis Lex Luther in the upcoming Superman film but he originally went up for the Man of Steel and was feeling confident about his try-out to play Clark Kent, until he met his future co-star outside. Speaking to guest host Diego Luna on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, Nicholas said: 'This is very awkward. Yes, I auditioned for Superman. 'I walked out of doing one of my audition scenes, and I was like, 'Yeah, not bad. OK.' "And I walked around the corner, and there were lots of shadows on the studio lot, and then one ray of sunshine. And David had taken a seat in this ray of sunshine and was sitting there, like, charging up from the sun … like Superman does, getting his power. 'And I walked over to say hello, and he stood up, and I was like, 'Goddamn, he's about an inch taller than me. Look at his hair. Look at his jawline.' And then he started speaking, and I shook his hand, and I was like, 'His hands are a bit bigger than me.' And then he spoke, and I was like, 'Oh, his voice is a little bit deeper too.' " Nicholas immediately knew David would be the "perfect" choice to play Superman - and was "happy" if that was who beat him to the role. He added: 'And then, in that moment, whilst we were shaking hands, I was like, 'I'd be happy if this guy was Superman.' I was like, you're perfect or it, really, genuinely. … But also, what the f***." In the joint interview, David also admitted their meeting was "a bit weird". He said: "I had admired Nick as an actor for a long time, and to get to meet him in this context, both dressed as Clark Kent … a bit weird, hanging from wires and reading this scene. 'It was wonderful" The 31-year-old actor was delighted when he learned The Great star would still be part of the film as his rival. He said: 'And then the day that I found out that he had agreed to play Lex Luthor, I thought, 'This may be the best thing that happens to this film, because a superhero is only as interesting as their villain.' And I knew Nick was going to bring something really special.'

When the teaser trailer dropped in January fans had the same issue. 'I don't know why you would shoot a shot like this in that way. 'I think there's something wrong with the cape too. It looks way too fake somehow,' equal-ad-2710 wrote. 'If I had to guess they've used this lens because it gives off a greater sense of speed and to be fair I definitely do get that feeling from it, even if it makes his face look a little weird because of the angle,' TheJosider defended. Over on X, many were comparing the flying sequence to Henry Cavill's version when he played Superman from 2013 to 2017 in Man of Steel, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Justice League. And I believe that most people in this country, despite their ideological beliefs [or] their politics, are doing their best to get by and trying to be good people, despite what it may seem like to the other side and what that other side might be. 'I think this movie is about that. It's about the basic kindness of human beings. And that it can be seen as uncool, and it can be seen as under siege when some of the darker voices are some of the louder voices. 'That's what happens when you let the internet seem like it's the world—when it's not the world. The world is us.' Russell Crowe, Henry Cavill Reunite for "Highlander" Reboot
Yara Sameh Russell Crowe is set to reunite with his "Man of Steel" co-star Henry Cavill for the remake of 'Highlander.' The Oscar-winner is set to play Cavill's mentor in a variation on the part played by Sean Connery in the 1986 original film. 'John Wick' director Chad Stahelski will helm the remake from a script by Michael Finch ('John Wick: Chapter 4'). 'Highlander' is backed by Amazon MGM Studios and United Artists, which is run by former Netflix film chief Scott Stuber. The film will open theatrically. Crowe was one of the biggest stars of the late '90s and 00s, appearing in action-heavy roles in the likes of 'Gladiator' and 'Master & Commander,' and earning critical raves for more dramatic work in 'The Insider,' 'A Beautiful Mind,' and 'L.A. Confidential.' In recent years, he's taken on more character parts in the likes of 'Kraven the Hunter' or starred in lower-budgeted movies such as 'The Pope's Exorcist' and 'Sleeping Dogs.' Crowe is next slated to play Hermann Göring, one of Hitler's most trusted allies, in James Vanderbilt's 'Nuremberg,' which Sony Pictures Classics will release in November. He also recently wrapped work on Netflix's 'Unabom,' which looks at the Unabomber, Ted Kaczynski, as well as the Cold War thriller 'Billion Dollar Spy' and the action thriller 'Bear Country.' Stuber and Nick Nesbitt will produce 'Highlander' for United Artists alongside Neal H. Moritz, 87Eleven Entertainment, Stahelski's production banner, Josh Davis of Davis Panzer Productions, and Louise Rosner. United Artists has secured full rights to the 1986 original, which Lionsgate developed, with the potential to also develop a new series.
