(HT PHOTO) According to the latest data, of total complaints received till July 22, 3,101 challans were successfully issued wherein 930 complaints were rejected and 40 cases are currently under process. June alone saw 1,319 cases with 951 challans generated and 368 complaints rejected. In July, the daily data reveals a consistent number of reports, peaking on July 22 with 218 complaints (143 challans, 35 rejections, 40 in process) and July 12 with 181 complaints and 148 challans issued. The digital drive has shown exceptional efficiency with over 76% of complaints resulting in challans while only 22% were rejected. The Public Traffic Police (PTP) App allows Pune residents to report traffic violations directly through their smartphones. The reports are reviewed by traffic authorities and if found valid challans are generated digitally. The overall rejection rate across the reporting period stands at approximately 23%, with most rejections attributed to insufficient evidence or blurred visuals submitted by users. The app launched to empower citizens to report traffic violations in real-time, continues to be an essential tool in enhancing road safety and enforcing traffic discipline. According to additional police commissioner Manoj Patil, the increase in reporting indicates rising civic engagement and awareness about traffic rules. 'We are actively encouraging more citizens to continue using the app responsibly. The more eyes on the road, the better our enforcement can be. The traffic department is also reviewing patterns to improve its enforcement strategy and may consider expanding the app's capabilities based on citizen feedback,' he said. To improve traffic regulation and boost public involvement, deputy chief minister Ajit Pawar unveiled the 'PTP TrafficCop' mobile application at Vidhan Bhavan on June 14. Designed by the Pune city police, the app empowers citizens to actively participate in traffic management by enabling them to report traffic violations and road-related issues instantly through their smartphones. The app enables responsible citizens with no pending traffic challans to capture and submit photos or videos of traffic violations directly through smartphones. Each submission is reviewed by the traffic department within 48 hours and if verified, an e-challan is issued to the offender. The identity of the complainant remains confidential. In addition to reporting traffic violations, the app also allows users to flag road-related issues such as potholes, accidents, waterlogging, oil spills, fallen trees, and abandoned vehicles. These reports are routed to the municipal departments helping authorities respond more swiftly and effectively to public safety and infrastructure concerns.

Pune police app enables action against 1,754 traffic rule violators
1 2 Pune: A fortnight since its launch on June 15, the Pune Traffic Police (PTP) app has enabled city police to act against 1,754 out of the 3,624 traffic violations reported by citizens. Challans have been issued to the offending motorists. Of the remaining 1,870 matters, 1,075 vehicle users have been let off for want of sufficient evidence establishing the traffic violations, and 795 matters have been transferred to other police units in the state for action. Additional commissioner of police Manoj Patil told TOI, "Most of the issued challans were related to no parking violations, parking on pedestrian paths, fancy vehicle registration number plates, tinted glasses, talking on cellphones while driving, and wrong-side driving, among others." The PTP app enables citizens to report traffic violations and notify the police about ongoing situations causing traffic disruptions, such as accidents, vehicle breakdowns, road damage, waterlogging, oil spillages, fallen trees, and abandoned vehicles. During my evening walk, I take photos of such violations and upload them to the app. I also receive feedback from the police on the action taken." Shakti Prasad from Vimannagar told TOI, "Many of my society members have downloaded the app to report violations such as parking or riding on the footpath. Police have taken action against the traffic violators whose photos we uploaded on the app." Prashant Inamdar, convener of Pedestrians First, said the app is a handy tool considering the city's traffic situation. "It will enhance the capacity of police authorities and also help to improve discipline among commuters. I hope the initiative continues for a long time," Inamdar said. Pimpri Chinchwad police's Traffic Buddy Alongside their Pune counterparts, Pimpri Chinchwad police launched Traffic Buddy — a mobile messenger-based app. It received an overwhelming response, with over 500 complaints of traffic violations reported on it in two weeks. "There is no need to download the app. One can send photos of violations of any traffic situation to the Traffic Buddy number. We will take prompt action," said Pimpri Chinchwad police commissioner Vinoy Kumar Choubey. DCP Bapu Bangar said, "Almost 95% of the complaints received, mostly related to illegal parking, were resolved by us. Traffic Buddy has a facility to upload images and GPS locations. The complainant gets messages about receiving their complaint, and after solving the problem, too." "So far, we have been sending e-challans to traffic violators caught on CCTV cameras. Now, citizens, too, are helping the cause by reporting violations," Bangar said. At present, 250 citizens volunteer with the police to help them manage traffic during the festive season.

Teach children true history to instil pride: Basavaraj Horatti
Dharwad: Chairman of Karnataka legislative council Basavaraj Horatti, emphasised the need to teach children the true history of our land to enable them to be proud of it. Speaking after releasing the book 'Naragunda Babasahebara Gallu Nantarada Atankada Baduku' authored by journalist Manoj Patil at the Karnataka Vidyavardhaka Sangha auditorium on Sunday, Horatti said, "We are neglecting our history. Those who do not know history cannot make history. We must teach our glorious past to our children; otherwise, future generations will remain unaware of it." He added that merely making children engineers and doctors is not enough—they must be imparted with cultural values and historical awareness. Horatti praised journalist and writer Manoj Patil for authoring an excellent book, stating that Patil had travelled across the country, conducted extensive research, met with family members of Babasaheb, and compiled the book with great effort.
