Monster Energy's Shara "Bullet" Magomedov Defeats Marc-André Barriault at UFC Fight Night in Abu Dhabi
31-Year-Old from Makhachkala, Russia Earns Unanimous Decision Victory in Middleweight Fight, Earns UFC's $50,000 Fight of the Night Bonus ABU DHABI, UAE, July 27, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- The "Bullet" is back on track! Monster Energy congratulates MMA athlete Shara Magomedov on defeating Marc-André Barriault at the UFC Fight Night in Abu Dhabi on Saturday night. In the middleweight division bout on the Main Card, the 31-year-old from Makhachkala, Russia, earned a unanimous decision victory after three turbulent rounds. The relentless battle also earned Magomedov and his opponent the UFC's $50,000 Fight of the Night Bonus. UFC Fight Night: Whittaker vs. de Ridder was contested in front of a high-energy crowd inside Etihad Arena in Abu Dhabi. Featuring five fights on the Main Card, the event was broadcast live on ABC television. Monster Energy's Magomedov (16-1) came to Abu Dhabi looking to return to the winner's column after suffering his first loss in the UFC to Michael Page at the UFC Fight Night in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, in February 2025. Magomedov's opponent, 35-year-old Barriault (17-10) from Quebec, Canada, wanted to build on his recent win against Bruno Silva at UFC 315 in May 2025. From the start, Barriault pursued aggressively, but Magomedov evaded heavy strikes while causing damage by landing low kicks to his opponent's leading leg. When Barriault landed a takedown, Magomedov lost no time getting back on his feet and dealt punishing elbows to escape the clinch against the fence. The Canadian incurred more damage in his next takedown attempt when Magomedov fired back with a hard knee, followed by a stinging question mark kick before the end of Round 1. The fight escalated in Round 2 when Magomedov continued his fast-footed defense before hurting Barriault with another elbow in the clinch that opened a head wound. Following up with a body kick, Magomedov took control of the fight until Barriault suddenly broke through with a hard jab to the nose that rocked the Russian. Showing his grit under pressure, Magomedov survived the following rush of strikes from Barriault and shifted the scales back in his favor during the final moments of the second round. In yet another clinch, Magomedov wobbled his opponent by connecting elbows to the head and knees to the body, leaving Barriault scrambling to evade a knockout before the buzzer. The final round unfolded with both fighters pursuing a finish with no holds barred. In this brutal war, Magomedov found more openings for dangerous elbows and knee strikes, while also landing a head kick to assure his dominance. The last minute of the fight escalated when Magomedov's knee to the body dropped Barriault to the canvas. Raining relentless ground and pound from the top, Magomedov controlled the final moments of the fight, looking for a knockout, as Barriault escaped until the buzzer. When the judges went to their scorecards, Magomedov was named the winner by unanimous decision (30-27) after three high-intensity rounds in the Octagon. Magomedov and his opponent also earned the UFC's $50,000 Fight of the Night Bonus. "Thank you to all the people who support me all over the world, I feel your support," said Monster Energy's Magomedov upon securing the victory at UFC Fight Night Abu Dhabi. "This is just the beginning, it's going to be more from now on. Bigger and higher. Better opponents, better victories!" A master of Muay Thai kickboxing, Magomedov started his mixed martial arts career fighting in Chinese promotions, including The King Fighting Championship, where he built an undefeated record of eleven wins. Magomedov made his UFC debut in October 2023 with a victory against Bruno Silva at UFC 294. Asked about his choice for next opponent, Magomedov refused to comment but allowed: "I feel very good after this fight and trained very hard. Step by step, I will fight and win. I will become the champion!" Stay tuned for more from Bullet Magomedov. Shara Magomedov vs. Marc-Andre Barriault prediction, pick, start time for UFC on ABC 9
Shara Magomedov and Marc-Andre Barriault meet Saturday on the main card of UFC on ABC 9 at Etihad Arena in Abu Dhabi. Check out this quick breakdown of the matchup from MMA Junkie analyst Dan Tom. Last event: 2-3 UFC main cards, 2025: 70-53-1 Shara Magomedov vs. Marc-Andre Barriault UFC on ABC 9 preview Magomedov (15-1 MMA, 4-1 UFC) will look to bounce back from the first loss of his professional career, which came by unanimous decision against Michael Page in February. Prior to his first career setback, "Bullet" won his first four UFC fights, including stoppages of Antonio Trocoli and Armen Petrosyan, while earning two Performance of the Night and a Fight of the Night bonus. ... Barriault (17-9 MMA, 6-8 UFC) aims to stay in the winners circle as he enters on the heels of a first-round knockout of Bruno Silva. That result in May snapped a three-fight skid, successfully turning the page on what was a very rough 2024 campaign. Shara Magomedov vs. Marc-Andre Barriault UFC on ABC 9 expert pick, prediction Filling out the main card is a middleweight attraction between Shara Magomedov and Marc-Andre Barriault. Despite getting beaten in a lackluster affair his last time out, the glazing of Magomedov is still going strong as far as the betting line is concerned. Don't get me wrong: Magomedov has shown some improvements since stepping on the UFC scene and has been reportedly taking training more seriously this time around, so I suppose we should leave some room to be surprised. That said, Magomedov might not need to improve all that much if he wants to pass this test. Although I'd happily take Barriault over Magomedov if this fight were a few years ago, I'm not sure I can take a chance on the Canadian underdog after he's lost his once-vaunted durability. I would love to be wrong here, but the official pick is Magomedov by knockout in Round 1. Shara Magomedov vs. Marc-Andre Barriault UFC on ABC 9 odds The oddsmakers and the public heavily favor the hyped product, listing Magomedov -600 and Barriault +425 via FanDuel. Shara Magomedov vs. Marc-Andre Barriault UFC on ABC 9 start time, how to watch Magomedov and Barriault are expected to walk to the cage at approximately 1:10 p.m. ET. The fight broadcasts live on ABC and streams on ESPN+. This article originally appeared on MMA Junkie: UFC Abu Dhabi: Shara Magomedov vs. Marc-Andre Barriault pick, time

UFC Fight Night: Shara Magomedov ready for fresh start in Abu Dhabi
After coming up short for the first time in 16 fights, Shara Magomedov has gone back to the drawing board as he aims to regain his winning touch. The popular Russian fighter, who is blind in one eye, lost by unanimous decision to Briton Michael Page in a middleweight co-main UFC Fight Night 250 card in Saudi Arabia in February. It was his first defeat and certainly didn't sit well with Magomedov, who returns to the octagon against Canadian Marc-Andre Barriault during UFC Fight Night at the Etihad Arena on July 26. 'That result was hard to swallow and put me back to where I started my professional career (in December 2017),' Magomedov told The National through his manager Gor Azizyan at the UFC Gym on Maqtaa Mall on Thursday. 'After that loss, I'm like have to restart everything. I felt I missed something in that fight. So, it was something that I learnt the hard way. It made me realise, perhaps, I didn't work as hard as I had to.' Barriault arrives with a 17-9 record. He recently registered a stunning win by knockout against Brazilian Bruno Silva in March. Magomedov is aware of the challenge. 'He's very tough and this time I have come well prepared. I have something to prove for all my fans in the UAE and those flying over especially to see me fight. I want to put up a show for them,' he said. 'This time I don't have any problems like the last fight. I have listened to my body and have done what I have to do.' Magomedov is popularly called Bullet for his spinning double back fist that has often caught his opponents off guard. He created that move during his amateur fighting days. 'I have been doing the double bullet for about 10 to 12 years even though it has become more prominent in recent times,' he said. 'Yeah, this is called the double bullet shot. I was doing this in the amateur fights many times but it didn't get famous until I started my professional career. But I have many options when I'm fighting.' Magomedov spent over two weeks in Dubai where he has his training camp ahead of fights. 'I have a sponsor in Dubai and that's where I have based my training ahead of my fights,' he added. He has five eyes to see all around Magomedov manager Gor Azizyan 'They love me there and I have a lot of followers. Likewise, I love Abu Dhabi as well, where I also have a big following. That's why I love to come to Abu Dhabi and put a big show for my fans.' Aside from his training and camps, Magomedov spends most of his time with his family – wife and two daughters, aged seven and five. 'Home and the gym is my routine. When I'm not training, I spend all my time with my wife and two daughters. I'm so blessed to lead a quiet family life from the income I make from my professional career.' Magomedov's career was almost over when he suffered an injury to his right eye during a sparring session in Thailand in 2018. He underwent multiple surgeries and lost more than three years to the injury. 'That's an old story and I don't want to talk about it any more. I'm back and I'm competing on the biggest stage,' he said when asked if fighting with one healthy eye was a hindrance. His manager Azizyan then gestured to his own head and ears, saying: 'He has five eyes to see all around. He's come this far from it and it's not a concern any more.'

UFC Cuts Ties With Fighter Days After He Leaves Octagon On Stretcher
MONTREAL, QUEBEC - MAY 10: Marc-Andre Barriault of Canada reacts after a knockout victory against ... (Photo by Chris Unger/Zuffa LLC) One of the most unsettling moments at UFC 315 occurred when Bruno Silva left the Octagon after suffering a knockout loss to Marc-Andre Barriault on the early prelims of the fight card. Days after the event, Silva is no longer a member of the active UFC roster. LAS VEGAS, NEVADA - DECEMBER 11: Bruno Silva of Brazil celebrates his knockout victory over Jordan ... (Photo by) The 35-year-old Silva joined the UFC in 2019, but his promotional debut was delayed for two years after a failed drug test when an arbitrator ruled that Silva's test revealed 'boldenone and its metabolite, 5β-androst-1-en-17β-hydroxy-3-one, at a level inconsistent with boldenone meat contamination as the result of a urine sample collected out-of-competition on May 27, 2019.' Silva, a former M-1 Global middleweight champion, opened his UFC run with three knockout wins in 2021. When the calendar turned to 2022, things went south for the Brazilian. He began the year with a decision loss to future two-division UFC champion Alex Pereira. He followed that with a submission loss to Gerald Meerschaert before defeating Brad Tavares via knockout. in 2023. After his win over Tavares, Silva lost four straight fights ahead of his matchup against Barriault in Montreal at UFC 315. Silva missed weight for the scheduled middleweight scrap, coming in at 187 pounds. Barriault ended things 87 seconds into the contest, dropping Silva with elbows against the fence before adding several ground strikes. Silva stayed on the canvas long after the knockout and he left the Octagon on a stretcher with his neck immobilized. The UFC broadcast team later reported that the precautions were taken after Silva complained of neck pain. Silva was examined and released from a Montreal hospital later that night, writing in Portuguese, 'Stopping by to inform that I'm fine. I went to the hospital and did exams, it's all OK with my health.' ABU DHABI, UNITED ARAB EMIRATES - OCTOBER 26: Bruno Silva of Brazil prepares to face Ismail Naurdiev ... More of Russia in a middleweight fight during the UFC 308 event at Etihad Arena on October 26, 2024 in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. (Photo by Chris Unger/Zuffa LLC) Silva spoke to MMA Fighting about the mental health struggles he had following his 2024 decision loss to Ismail Naurdiev at UFC 308 in October 2024. 'I got back home from Abu Dhabi the Monday after the fight and my team and I knew there was a 100 percent chance I was getting cut,' Silva said. 'Four losses. And not only losses, but really bad performances. … I wasn't fighting to win, I was fighting to survive. And the last fight was the worst. All I thought was, 'God, get me out of here. I don't wanna be here. I can't do this anymore. Not like this.' I still survived all three rounds. I fought really bad, but still survived.' After the fight, Silva had a chat with Pereira about the setback and his expectations of being released by the promotion. 'I called him to chat and told him what was going on,' Silva said, referring to the mental health issues he had publicly revealed earlier that day. 'I feared it was the end of my career. And he was like, 'I'll give you an idea: why don't you talk to [UFC matchmaker] Mick [Maynard]? Why don't you reach out to the UFC in person and explain what's going on? I know you, I fought you, and I know you're fighting way under your abilities.'' Silva said he called Maynard, who told him that with four losses in a row, he could not help him. After a few minutes of prayer, Silva reached out to Maynard a second time, writing him a message. 'Mick, I've never said 'no' to any fight, and never turned down any opponent,' Silva remembers writing. 'I fought everybody you offered. Nobody wanted to fight Poatan and I did it. Nobody wanted to fight Shara [Magomedov] and I did it. There was no one I turned down. You know my performance has dropped, but give me some time, man. Let me get treatment, take care of my head. Let me get a psychiatrist and take medication, let me find balance again.' Silva's second message worked. 'Bruno, I'll give you one more fight,' Maynard wrote, according to Silva. 'If you lose, there's really nothing I can do. It's in your hands now.' With a fight on the horizon, the Brazilian competitor focused on his mental health. 'I dove head first into my health because I needed it,' Silva said. 'Not only for my career, but also for myself. People thought I was depressed. No, far from that. I love life. I didn't ask for this shit, but I had to fight it. I asked God for a cure. The psychiatrist said I had to find a way to live with it, and that panicked me. Then I realized I was asking God for the wrong thing. I was asking for a cure, and I wasn't willing to do my part? 'God, please help me do my best.'' Social media account Borrachinha Depot was the first to report that Bruno Silva is no longer on the UFC roster. It is unclear if he was released from his contract or if his contract with the UFC has expired.

Silva, 35, was immediately transported to the hospital after worryingly lying on the octagon canvas for several minutes. Medical staff took him out of the cage on a stretcher before sending him off for further assessment. And thankfully, Silva issued a positive update on his condition from the hospital, where his X-rays were "negative" and imaging scans were "normal". He wrote on his Instagram story in Portuguese: "Good night, just passing to let you know that I'm fine. 'I went to the hospital and had tests, everything is fine with my health. 'I received a lot of messages from people who really like me, it was fine. "I wanted to win to give my testimony, from everything I went through and managed to stand up, but it's worth living. Barriault was over the moon with his stoppage victory but admits he had serious concerns for Silva's health when he saw him lying on the canvas. The 35-year-old said in his post-fight press conference: "I still have goosebumps. "[But then] I realised he was still on the ground after a couple of minutes. "Then I felt like something is wrong." Silva will likely soon find himself unemployed as he's lost his last five UFC outings on the bounce.
