UFC Cuts Ties With Fighter Days After He Leaves Octagon On Stretcher
One of the most unsettling moments at UFC 315 occurred when Bruno Silva left the Octagon after suffering a knockout loss to Marc-Andre Barriault on the early prelims of the fight card. Days after the event, Silva is no longer a member of the active UFC roster.

The 35-year-old Silva joined the UFC in 2019, but his promotional debut was delayed for two years after a failed drug test when an arbitrator ruled that Silva's test revealed 'boldenone and its metabolite, 5β-androst-1-en-17β-hydroxy-3-one, at a level inconsistent with boldenone meat contamination as the result of a urine sample collected out-of-competition on May 27, 2019.'
Silva, a former M-1 Global middleweight champion, opened his UFC run with three knockout wins in 2021.
When the calendar turned to 2022, things went south for the Brazilian. He began the year with a decision loss to future two-division UFC champion Alex Pereira. He followed that with a submission loss to Gerald Meerschaert before defeating Brad Tavares via knockout. in 2023.
After his win over Tavares, Silva lost four straight fights ahead of his matchup against Barriault in Montreal at UFC 315. Silva missed weight for the scheduled middleweight scrap, coming in at 187 pounds.
Barriault ended things 87 seconds into the contest, dropping Silva with elbows against the fence before adding several ground strikes.
Silva stayed on the canvas long after the knockout and he left the Octagon on a stretcher with his neck immobilized. The UFC broadcast team later reported that the precautions were taken after Silva complained of neck pain.
Silva was examined and released from a Montreal hospital later that night, writing in Portuguese, 'Stopping by to inform that I'm fine. I went to the hospital and did exams, it's all OK with my health.'

Silva spoke to MMA Fighting about the mental health struggles he had following his 2024 decision loss to Ismail Naurdiev at UFC 308 in October 2024.
'I got back home from Abu Dhabi the Monday after the fight and my team and I knew there was a 100 percent chance I was getting cut,' Silva said. 'Four losses. And not only losses, but really bad performances. … I wasn't fighting to win, I was fighting to survive. And the last fight was the worst. All I thought was, 'God, get me out of here. I don't wanna be here. I can't do this anymore. Not like this.' I still survived all three rounds. I fought really bad, but still survived.'
After the fight, Silva had a chat with Pereira about the setback and his expectations of being released by the promotion.
'I called him to chat and told him what was going on,' Silva said, referring to the mental health issues he had publicly revealed earlier that day. 'I feared it was the end of my career. And he was like, 'I'll give you an idea: why don't you talk to [UFC matchmaker] Mick [Maynard]? Why don't you reach out to the UFC in person and explain what's going on? I know you, I fought you, and I know you're fighting way under your abilities.''
Silva said he called Maynard, who told him that with four losses in a row, he could not help him.
After a few minutes of prayer, Silva reached out to Maynard a second time, writing him a message.
'Mick, I've never said 'no' to any fight, and never turned down any opponent,' Silva remembers writing. 'I fought everybody you offered. Nobody wanted to fight Poatan and I did it. Nobody wanted to fight Shara [Magomedov] and I did it. There was no one I turned down. You know my performance has dropped, but give me some time, man. Let me get treatment, take care of my head. Let me get a psychiatrist and take medication, let me find balance again.'
Silva's second message worked.
'Bruno, I'll give you one more fight,' Maynard wrote, according to Silva. 'If you lose, there's really nothing I can do. It's in your hands now.'
With a fight on the horizon, the Brazilian competitor focused on his mental health.
'I dove head first into my health because I needed it,' Silva said. 'Not only for my career, but also for myself. People thought I was depressed. No, far from that. I love life. I didn't ask for this shit, but I had to fight it. I asked God for a cure. The psychiatrist said I had to find a way to live with it, and that panicked me. Then I realized I was asking God for the wrong thing. I was asking for a cure, and I wasn't willing to do my part? 'God, please help me do my best.''
Social media account Borrachinha Depot was the first to report that Bruno Silva is no longer on the UFC roster. It is unclear if he was released from his contract or if his contract with the UFC has expired.

UFC on ESPN 71's Karol Rosa has escaped 'turmoil' and found happiness with new team
LAS VEGAS – Karol Rosa is glowing ahead of UFC on ESPN 71, and she is confident that will result in a winning performance against Nora Cornolle. Rosa (18-7 MMA, 7-4 UFC) meets Cornolle (9-2 MMA, 3-1 UFC) in a women's bantamweight bout on Saturday at the UFC Apex (ESPN, ESPN+), and after relocating her life to Sao Paulo and starting a new team with former UFC champion Jessica Andrade, she said her mindset is unflappable as she dials in on victory. "I've changed my attitude and I've started seeing happiness," Rosa told MMA Junkie through an interpreter at Wednesday's media day. "I am feeling happy right now and I understand in my last fight there was just a lot of turmoil. I was already with my new team, but there was so much going on and there was a lot on my mind and I don't think I was in a good place mentally. I can tell you right now, I'm very happy this week. And this is not the good moment. This is the sad moment where we're cutting weight, and I'm feeling happy. When I'm happy, I'm happy to perform. You will see on Saturday what the happiness brings as far as performance." Rosa, 30, enters UFC on ESPN 71 with a wealth of experience and is still young at 30. She hopes this is the beginning of her best moments in the octagon in a 135-pound division currently ruled by Kayla Harrison, and thinks Cornolle fights in a way that will lend to a standout performance. "She's got a style that I like to fight," Rosa said. "She likes her striking, so she wants to do muay-Thai, and I do believe I have the strength there. The way that I strike, the way the smart striking happens for me – I think I'm a smarter striker."

Banger alert: UFC Paris adds Benoit Saint-Denis vs. Mauricio Ruffy
A lightweight banger is headed to Paris. Benoit Saint Denis and Mauricio Ruffy will collide Sept. 6 at UFC Fight Night 258 at Accor Arena. Two people with knowledge of the matchup recently informed MMA Junkie of the booking but asked to remain anonymous as the promotion has yet to make an official announcement. Saint Denis' gym, Bulgarian Top Team, first announced the fight. Saint Denis (14-3 MMA, 6-3 UFC) bounced back May 10 when he defeated short-notice replacement Kyle Prepolec by second-round submission. Prior to that win, Saint Denis was finished in back-to-back fights against Dustin Poirier and Renato Moicano. Ruffy (12-1 MMA, 3-0 UFC) will join his Fighting Nerds teammate Caio Borralho, who headlines the card vs. Nassourdine Imavov. One of the hottest rising lightweights, Ruffy has wowed viewers with his capoeira style, which was on full display in his most recent outing when he knocked out King Green with a spinning wheel kick in March. With the addition, the UFC Fight Night 285 lineup includes:

Renato Moicano takes issue with Lerone Murphy vs. Aaron Pico as UFC 319 co-main event
Renato Moicano says the UFC 319 co-headliner does not gauge fan interest. Lerone Murphy (16-0-1 MMA, 8-0-1 UFC) vs. Aaron Pico (13-4 MMA, 0-0 UFC) will serve as the Aug. 16 co-main event at United Center in Chicago. The card is headlined by the middleweight title fight between champion Dricus Du Plessis and undefeated challenger Khamzat Chimaev. Pico was originally scheduled to make his octagon debut against Movsar Evloev in this past Saturday's UFC on ABC 9 co-main event in Abu Dhabi, but the bout was scrapped when Evloev withdrew. Pico hoped to have his fight with Evloev rebooked for UFC 319, but wound up drawing Murphy instead. Moicano is not happy with fight serving as a co-main event on a big pay-per-view. "UFC is not about being good, it's about people wanting to tune in to watch," Moicano said on his "Show Me The Money" podcast. "Like Tony Ferguson: eight-fight losing streak, and he was still in the UFC. This is not a sport, this is entertainment. If you're very good, but nobody knows you, people don't – I don't want to watch. Because let's be honest: I don't know Aaron Pico. Call me a casual. Maybe I'm a casual. I think I watched him once in Bellator, and you got only the highlights on Instagram and stuff. "I don't know his game. I don't know much about him. If it's Evloev, people know Evloev. There's controversy about Evloev because everybody is saying this guy should fight for the title next, and they don't give the title shot to him. At least everybody knows about Evloev. Not many people know about Lerone Murphy, to be honest – not in the U.S. If you ask a casual fan, you say, 'Hey, do you know Lerone Murphy?' They don't know." Pico was once one of the most highly touted prospects in MMA. He is on a three-fight winning streak with wins over James Gonzalez, Pedro Carvalho, and most recently a first-round TKO of Henry Corrales in February 2024. Meanwhile, England's Murphy has won eight fights in a row, and is coming off a main event win over Josh Emmett in April.
