GMA Network a major winner at 8th EDDYs Awards
GMA Network scored major wins at the 8th Entertainment Editor's Choice (The EDDYs) Awards, taking home 10 trophies during the awards night organized by the Society of Philippine Entertainment Editors (SPEEd) last Sunday, July 20, at the Marriott Hotel. The Kapuso contingent was bannered by Kapuso superstars Marian Rivera, Alden Richards, Dennis Trillo, Ruru Madrid, and the Zig Dulay-directed 'Green Bones,' which won five out of its nine nominations. The multi-awarded film, which also bagged top recognitions during the 50th Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF), won Best Picture, Best Director (Zig Dulay), Best Cinematography (Neil Daza), Best Actor (Dennis Trillo), and Best Supporting Actor (Ruru Madrid) at the EDDYs. Taking home the other top acting honor was Kapuso Primetime Queen Marian Rivera who was adjudged Best Actress for her portrayal of Teacher Emy in the Kip Oebanda-directed political thriller 'Balota.' Asia's Multimedia Star Alden Richards, alongside Trillo and Madrid, was named to the Box Office Hero honors list. GMA Pictures, meanwhile, was recognized as the Producer of the Year. The Entertainment Editors' Choice, is an annual film event in the Philippines that honors excellence in the Philippine film industry. Organized by the Society of Philippine Entertainment Editors (SPEEd), it recognizes the achievements of actors, writers, directors, producers, and other individuals involved in filmmaking. Dingdong Dantes, Marian Rivera, and Alden Richards are beaming with pride and honor as their home network celebrated its 75th anniversary with a star-studded event. In Nelson Canlas' report on "24 Oras," Tuesday, Dingdong said that he grew up with the Kapuso network. "Very, very proud. Dito na ako lumaki so kumbaga 'yung paghulma sa 'kin bilang isang tao, tao talaga, eh malaking parte do'n 'yung GMA," he said. "Ito talaga 'yung aming tahanan, literal. Parang lahat nasa GMA eh. 'Yun nga 'yung palagi naming sinasabi na proud kami to be Kapuso at mananatili kaming Kapuso," Marian Rivera said. Alden said that he couldn't be happier that he's still with GMA Network. "Every time that I commute going here to do an audition or a go-see, there's something about GMA 'pag napapadaan 'yung MRT. That gut feel served me right and I couldn't be happier that I'm still here in GMA after 15 years," he said. Also present at the event were Kapuso executives, including GMA Network CEO and President Gilbert R. Duavit Jr., GMA Network Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer Felipe S. Yalong, GMA Network Senior Vice President Annette Gozon-Valdes, Sparkle First Vice President Joy Marcelo, and more. Marian Rivera, Tim Yap, and Solenn Heussaff are among the Preview 30 Icons — creatives and personalities who have helped "build the brand and shape Filipino fashion" and whom the fashion magazine is honoring for its 30th anniversary. In the cover story, Preview described Solenn as "a woman who's embodied a je ne sais quoi that requires little to no effort to bring out." "Solenn's life has been documented through high-glamor editorials and compelling stories told through fashion," it added, recalling how the Kapuso actress, who plays Cassiopeia in "Encantadia Chronicles: Sang'gre," first appeared on Preview's pages as an actress and model." Meanwhile, Tim Yap, who signed with Sparkle in March 2025 has been something of a main stay with Preview, partnering with the title "on his first fashion show" when he launched Kenzo in the Philippines with Preview as his media partner, appearing on "Preview's front page, sharing his first cover with fellow model and socialite Rissa Mananquil for the December 2001 issue," and serving as its society editor at one point. "Tim has maintained his position as an industry magnate, noting how the community has expanded for the better," Preview said. Finally, Marian Rivera recalled her November 2012 cover when Preview dressed her in crisp tailoring and slicked-back hair, transforming her into "someone no one had seen before." Marian Rivera said yes to 'Stars on the Floor' because of her love for dancing
Marian Rivera is a true dancing queen, and her saying yes to "Stars on the Floor" comes from her passion for it. During the reality dance competition's grand media conference, Marian said it is her first time to be a judge in a show. She would previously say no to offers because she thinks she is not fit for the role. "Pero bilang dance ito at hilig ko ang magsayaw, at hindi naman lingid sa kaalaman nila na love na love ko ang dancing talaga, nag-yes ako dito," Marian said. "Love ko ang dancing eh. Every time nag-da-dance talaga 'ko, na-e-express ko talaga 'yung sarili ko sa iba't ibang anggulo," she added. Marian also said that although she dances on TikTok, "Stars on the Floor" gave her the chance to dance onstage again. Marian also teased that the cast has an upcoming production number that was out of their comfort zones, but they took it on as a challenge because they were inspired by the contestants. The Kapuso Primetime Queen added that aside from judging the contestants, "Ako pala 'yung mas natuto habang nanonood ako sa kanila." Marian added that the show makes the contestants shine as dancers and hopes that they will be better known for their dance skills when the series ends. "Hinahanap ko [sa contestants]—isa lang lagi ko sinasabi—gusto ko enjoy sila habang ginagawa nila 'to," Marian said. "Isa lang 'yun, pero s'yempre andiyan naman for the technical, for ano man. Pero 'yun 'yung gusto ko eh, habang sumasayaw sila, ine-enjoy nila 'yung bawat indak nila kasi laban nila 'to sa tagumpay eh. So gusto ko ine-enjoy lang, matalo, manalo," the actress added. "Stars on the Floor," dubbed the ultimate "COLLABanan ng Stars sa Sayawan" brings together personalities from entertainment and the digital world to pair up for a dance-collab competition. The stars will dabble in different dance styles—from hip-hop, contemporary, and ballroom to jazz, swing, disco, Latin, dancehall, and more—with the best choreographers in the Philippines to guide them. The Celebrity Dance Stars are Glaiza de Castro, Rodjun Cruz, Faith Da Silva, Thea Astley, and VXON Patrick. Meanwhile, the Digital Dance Stars are Zeus Collins, Dasuri Choi, JM Yrreverre, Kakai Almeda, and Joshua Decena. Marian is joined by the Star Comedienne of the Dance Floor Pokwang and the Dance Trend Master Coach Jay as the show's judges, or the Dance Authority.
