Couple Gets Engaged In Front Of Volcano, And Internet Is Literally Melting
Last Updated: A man proposed to his girlfriend against the backdrop of one of the world's most active volcanoes in the Hawaiian Islands. First, a tornado, now a volcano, has become the hottest new proposal trend. Just last month, a man in South Dakota got down on one knee with a massive tornado swirling in the background. The moment went viral, capturing the internet's imagination. Now, another couple has cranked up the drama, this time, proposing in front of molten lava. Yes, really. Mark Stewart, a resident of Washington, D.C., shared a series of dramatic pictures on Instagram where he is seen proposing to his girlfriend, Olivia Post. Mark popped the question in front of Kilauea, one of the most active volcanoes in the world, located in the Hawaiian Islands. In the photos, lava can be seen spewing into the air, lighting up the scene as Mark holds out the ring. The moment was not just bold, it was breathtaking. Take a look: The photos got a lot of attention after they were shared by the popular Instagram page. And just like the lava, the reactions kept flowing. The comments section was filled with praise, jokes and full of fun wordplay. One user commented, 'This is so wild and on fire mark!! Congrats, you two!! What an epic proposal!!!" Another said, 'Okay, this 100 per cent deserves the epithet 'epic.' Congratulations, lovebirds," while someone declared, 'The coolest engagement photo I've ever seen." 'You are the lava of my life," read one cheeky comment. 'Literally till death do us part," a person remarked. And then came even more reactions such as: 'The hottest proposal ever, 'No cold feet for this couple, 'Love is on fire" and 'I hope they have lava cake at the wedding." Back in January, when massive fires swept through Los Angeles, many residents were left dealing with the damage and loss. For one couple, though, a heartbreaking moment turned into the most special one of their lives. According to Brian McShea and Stephanie Raynor lost their home in Altadena to the fires. While looking through the debris, Brian found the engagement ring he had hidden in a drawer, planning to propose to Stephanie. Right then and there, he got down on one knee and asked her to marry him while holding the ring. Even in the middle of destruction, that small moment brought hope and a fresh start.

'The reforms fundamentally shift the taxation landscape'
The alterations elicited a particularly angry response from the farming community, which has been taking to the streets in tractors around the UK to make its feelings known. The changes mean relief will now only apply to the first £1 million of qualifying assets, with the remainder taxed at an effective rate of 20%. However a new survey commissioned by Brodies has revealed a 'widespread lack of understanding' about the forthcoming changes, with just 26% stating that they 'fully grasp the implications'. According to Brodies, which commissioned YouGov to survey 2,001 UK adults aged 50+, the findings signal a pressing need for law firms, tax advisers, and estate planners to proactively educate and support clients navigating the transition. While the survey found that 54% of respondents are aware of the IHT reforms, they remain unclear on the personal impact, which could leave them vulnerable to missed planning opportunities, Brodies noted. Fewer than half (41%) have a structured estate plan in place, while 35% acknowledge that they should plan but have not begun the process. In addition, the survey found that only 16% have sought professional guidance, despite the complexity of phased tax relief reductions and domicile rule shifts. 'These reforms fundamentally shift the taxation landscape for estates, businesses, and trusts,' said Mark Stewart, partner at Brodies. 'There is a clear knowledge gap among those impacted, underscoring the vital role of legal, tax and wealth professionals in guiding clients through structured succession planning.' Brodies noted that the findings of the survey underline the 'urgent need' for 'proactive dialogue' between clients and their professional advisers, with only 10% of respondents found to have engaged in detailed discussions about inheritance with their families. Fairness and the risk of dispute were highlighted as the leading concerns of respondents – 28% cited equitable distribution as a key issue, and 23% said they fear conflict due to wealth transfer. Brodies cautioned that without 'robust' estate planning and professional advice, families risk contentious probate litigation, unnecessary tax exposure, and uncertainty over asset protection strategies. 'Professional advisors must take a leadership role in informing clients,' Mr Stewart added. 'From succession structuring to navigating relief restrictions, we must ensure clients understand their tax position and the long-term consequences of inaction.' Concerns over the changes to inheritance tax planning have been expressed within the Scottish business community. Maxi Caledonian, the Irvine-based haulage specialist owned by industry veteran Gerry Atkinson, told The Herald in June that the changes will deny businesses the capital that is 'necessary for stability and continued growth'. Maxi said: 'Whilst we normally avoid such comments, we consider that the current Government's proposed heavy taxation of privately owned companies upon the death of shareholders removes planned essential business capital necessary for stability and continued growth and will adversely affect many private companies and associated employment increases. 'This appears to be the opposite of what the Government is claiming their primary objective is - namely to grow the economy - and successful expansion of private companies must be a major contributor to achieve this objective.' Farming chiefs say the changes will affect up to 70,000 farms but the UK Government insists the figure is much lower, with the Treasury stating that it expects around 500 estates to be impacted. A report published by CBI Economics has found that the reforms could threaten over 200,000 jobs and cut almost £15 billion in economic activity by the end of this Parliament.

Hawks sell iconic venue back to the AFL
Waverley Park, the site of one of only three AFL grand finals not played at the MCG, will remain a football venue after the league purchased it back from Hawthorn in a sale worth up to $20 million. Hawthorn won the 1991 grand final at what was then VFL Park and them made it the club's training base following the last match played at the venue in 1999. The AFL sold the surrounding land to a developer for $110 million, used the proceeds to fund the Marvel Stadium, which it also now owns, before the Hawks purchased the freehold to the oval and administration building for just $1. But ahead of a move to a $100m new training facility in Melbourne's southeast, Hawthorn put Waverley up for sale and the AFL snatched it up with plans to use it for 'talent pathways programs, community footy, and umpire development and programs'. Games could also return to the venue in some form, possibly AFLW or even Under 18 games. 'Waverley Park has had a long history in footy, being the first venue to be designed and built specifically for Australian Rules Football,' AFL boss Andrew Dillon said. Waverley Park is back in AFL hands. Mark Stewart Credit: News Corp Australia 'The purchase of the ground and facilities is a rare and timely solution that will help with our talent pathways programs, community footy, and umpire development and programs, all of which will now be worked through with the relevant stakeholders. 'The AFL has targeted having 10 million attendees at AFL/AFLW games, events, and festivals, two million AFL club members and one million participants and in order to achieve the target for participation we need two ovals a week every week for the next five years. 'We are always looking for green space so we can continue to expand the playing fields we need to accommodate the strong national growth in people playing our game.' Hawthorn defeated West Coast in the 1991 grand final, played away form the MCG which was being redeveloped. The only other two grand finals not at the MCG were at the Gabba in Brisbane in 2020 and Optus Stadium in Perth in 2021, both due to Covid restrictions.
