#NSTviral: TikTok clip of rider's swing joy brings smiles [WATCH]

KUALA LUMPUR: A p-hailing rider found a moment of joy on a porch swing and brought thousands along for the ride on TikTok. In a 31-second video posted by TikTok user @gunalini84, the rider is seen entering a home compound to pick up an item for delivery. As the sender prepared the parcel, the rider noticed a swing hanging from the porch and hopped on. "I always welcome p-hailing riders to chat while I get their items ready. This Malay guy suddenly sat on the swing, lifted his feet and started playing. "He said the swing at his playground back home is broken. I felt so happy for him," the video caption read. The rider was also seen tugging the swing's ropes, seemingly checking its strength. The video has since racked up over 74,000 views, with hundreds of commenters touched by the rider's simple joy and the homeowner's warmth. @atiqahmowari said: "You're so kind, kakak. If I saw a swing, I'd want to get on it too. Back when we were kids, we really made the most of playing on swings." L21i1i said: "Thank you so much for your kindness. My husband also works as a courier driver, sometimes he doesn't even have time to eat. When a customer offers him just a drink, he's already so grateful, especially in this hot weather." Hanis KJ said: "Inner child healed. Llet him enjoy himself. It is exhausting delivering food and parcels everywhere. May his livelihood continue to grow." San Thi360 said: "No matter how grown up we are, our childish side still hides within us. "Whenever I pass by Marrybrown, the first thing I check is whether the swing is empty. If it is, I quickly grab the spot, order something simple and enjoy the swing."

Marrybrown to open 40 outlets, create 1,000 jobs in nationwide expansion

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysian halal quick-service restaurant chain Marrybrown plans to open over 40 new outlets nationwide and create 1,000 additional jobs as part of its ongoing expansion strategy. Widely recognised as one of the world's largest halal fast-food brands, with a presence in markets such as Australia, Cambodia, and Qatar, Marrybrown's latest growth push is driven by rising demand, especially from East Coast towns and underserved local communities. In a statement, Marrybrown said it currently employs over 10,000 people and believes its expansion will help boost the local economy by creating new business opportunities for suppliers and small and medium enterprises (SMEs). Its chief executive officer, Daniel Lek Seong Chan, said the initiative will support the government's target of creating 127,000 new jobs under the Malaysia Madani plan. "SMEs constitute 97 per cent of all businesses in Malaysia and contribute 38.2 per cent of gross domestic product while employing nearly half the workforce," Chan said in a statement. Chan added that Marrybrown's hyper-localised corporate social responsibility initiative, Molek Bersama, held in Kelantan, is envisioned as a platform employees can use to amplify their good deeds. "We attribute our success to the tremendous support we receive from local communities, who not only patronise our outlets but also serve as dedicated employees of Marrybrown. "There are many unsung heroes amongst our employees — volunteering their precious time to uplift their communities. Rather than launching a massive nationwide campaign, we want our employees to guide us on which activities to support," Chan added.

Chicken wars heat up in Geelong

Putting the age-old debate of whether it's Colonel Sanders' secret herbs and spices, or the way it's cooked to one side, it's clear that KFC has its rewards. But there's growing competition in the market. A freehold to a new KFC outlet in Geelong's south was snapped up at auction for more than $3m recently, as 15 registered bidders lined up to secure the Princes Highway property. The key was the 1485sq m freestanding pad, in comparison to the KFC outlet in Geelong's Westfield shopping centre, which recently departed the CBD food court and is about to be replaced with a Marrybrown spicy Malaysian fried chicken – or ayam goreng – outlet. Marrybrown has been expanding since opening its first Australian franchise in Sydney in 2023. It's not the only chicken-related property news, with El Jannah charcoal chicken confirming to the Advertiser it was setting up shop in Belmont in 2025. El Jannah is advertising for positions, including for full-time assistant restaurant managers and casual crew members. It's speculated the former Hungry Jack's and Daniel's Donuts High St site will be its new location after construction fencing was erected around the freestanding restaurant, with drive-through. The property sold to a Melbourne investor recently for $4.5m in April and Daniel's Donuts closed up. The KFC Waurn Ponds pad site also has drive-through but offered investors a sought-after, but rarely seen, ground lease where the tenant retains ownership of the improvements – ie, the building – along with responsibility for all the outgoings, including structural repairs, maintenance, replacement and land tax. The restaurant received strong bidding activity at Stonebridge Property Group's recent national portfolio auction, which demonstrated growing confidence in freestanding investment opportunities. The freehold to KFC's Waurn Ponds outlet sold for $3.12m, scoring a 3.54 per cent yield. Stonebridge partner Tom Moreland said the 'smart money' began seeking commercial investments earlier this year as buyers realised rate cuts were on the horizon. 'The RBA Governor's dialogue has now shifted to welcome further rate cuts in the short term, as financial markets predict a further three reductions by February 2026,' Mr Moreland said. 'There is no doubt this will have a positive impact on commercial property valuations and increase buyer depth throughout 2025.' Stonebridge partner Kevin Tong said investors from Victoria, New South Wales and Queensland contested the property. It took 41 bids to decide the buyer. The tenant is the Hosking Group, which operates a string of KFC outlets across the region, and pays a $115,000 annual rent, plus GST, with 3 per cent annual increases in a new 10-year lease with options to 2064. But not all the drive-through outlets on the Waurn Ponds property have found a buyer, with new freestanding retail sites for Starbucks and Guzman Y Gomez listed for immediate sale. Also up sold at the portfolio auction was the Reject Shop at Ocean Grove. A 5.42 per cent yield showed the investor confidence in the Bellarine Peninsula shopping centre as the asset sold for $3.45m. There were eight registered bidders for the property.
