Fans divided after Edinburgh Castle gig as Marti Pellow takes to stage
Our community members are treated to special offers, promotions and adverts from us and our partners. You can check out at any time. More info Fans are split after watching Marti Pellow take to the stage at Edinburgh Castle, with some advising it's 'time to call it a day'. The former Wet Wet Wet singer was in the city on Friday, July 5. He performed hits such as Wishing I Was Lucky, Somewhere Somehow and Hold Back The River. While some who were in attendance praised him for 'still having it', others claimed the show was a 'bit sad to watch'. Marti, 60, celebrated two decades of sobriety this year and is enjoying a 'packed' schedule. Clips of the gig have been posted online since Friday night, with fans divided. One user commented: "I wish I'd never gone." Another added: "He sounds amazing but who dressed him? It's a hard no." Another commented: "That suit should of stayed in the '80s, stop singing over the age limit." However, some who were at the castle had a great time - and thought Marti was on top form. One said: "I was there! He was amazing." Another added: "What a great night. Even the weather was perfect." A third posted: "Was an absolutely fantastic show." A fourth said: "This man doesn't get the credit for the voice he has, he has an amazing voice." Join Edinburgh Live's Whatsapp Community here and get the latest news sent straight to your messages. After Marti quit drugs and alcohol, Wet Wet Wet reformed in 2004, however it wasn't quite the same. On reflection, Marti said: "There's uncharted ground at the beginning, a sense of wonder. I think we were always looking for that, but it never came back." In 2017, the star announced that it was finally time to call it a day for good, and he was leaving once again to focus on his solo work. He was replaced by Liberty X singer Kevin Simm. "I have had a great time and loved my career with Wet Wet Wet and to me they will always be the best band in the world. When I started in Wet Wet Wet I gave it 100 per cent of my heart and soul and that's what it demands and that is also what the fans demand - and if I can't do that because my focus is elsewhere, then this is not fair on the fans or the rest of the guys in the band."

Marti was indeed here to party ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Marti Pellow gave the crowd exactly what they wanted – and more on Saturday evening at Edinburgh Castle. His voice remains strong and his stage presence charismatic. And this concert – the second in the Castle Concerts series – was a real love in with people who know and adore him and his music. He said he was here to sing and would not offer too much in the way of banter – except to say that as he was driving to Edinburgh earlier the sky turned blue heralding his arrival on stage in the sunshine. Starting off with a reggae favourite Jammin' he quickly had the crowd on their feet with Wishin' I was lucky. The 7,000 or so at Edinburgh Castle were not exclusively women, but everyone was on their feet as soon as he asked them to stand up and dance. It was an accomplished performance from the star – and he is a superstar after all these years in the music business. He knew that the crowd wanted to hear (and sing along with) all the numbers they knew which he used to sing as the frontman with Wet Wet Wet. But he was crafty enough to intersperse them with other songs – including a surprise Starry, Starry Night with just a piano and a guitar to accompany him and the 1979 disco favourite Ain't No Stoppin' Us Now. The breadth of songs only emphasises his ability to sing just about anything alongside his seven piece band including two women backing vocalists. Nothing has been lost in his solo performance – the twinkle is still there and boy did he give it his all on the Castle Esplanade from 8.30 until 10.30 after a couple of encores. After 10pm there was time for a quick change into his 21st Century kilt – and a shout out for his friend Howie Nicolsby who made it for him. Then it was time for a real singalong with 'that song from that film'. The audience was in fine form with Love is All Around – which is also the name of the Marti Pellow tour. The crowd loved him – some of them saying on the way out that they can't wait to see him at the Hydro in November where he will play on his home turf. But in a nice moment towards the end he thanked the Edinburgh crowd saying: 'I've played here a few times but tonight I have to thank you all for your smiling faces and your energy, Thank you for giving me another memory to put in my top pocket.' And with that – after With a Little Help from my Friends – it was time to call it a night with Marti telling everyone to have a 'Safe journey home!' Meantime he is off to Dublin tomorrow to play in the Trinity Summer Series. 5/7/2025 Marti Pellow at Edinburgh Castle as part of his Love is All Around Tour. Nineties heartthrob reveals love for Dublin fish and chip shop
Wet Wet Wet singer Marti Pellow has revealed his love for a famous fish and chip shop in Dublin. The Scottish star is no stranger to Ireland and has fond childhood memories of visiting family friends here. He has a soft spot for Dalkey and Howth in Co. Dublin, and long ago made a Sweet Surrender to one well-known chipper in particular. Pellow said he loves Leo Burdock's – Dublin's oldest chipper – adding that they are 'so much better than Scottish fish and chips'. Fish and Chips. Pic: Getty Images (Stock Image) 'I've been coming to Ireland since I was a wee boy, truth be known, because I had some family friends and my mum and dad had family friends that lived in Dalkey,' he said. 'I would visit them, and that's where I had my first boxty [a traditional Irish potato cake]. 'We call them tatty scones and in Scotland, it's quite similar, but you know when I was a wee boy, I would always say, 'Oh, my auntie made boxes well.' She made them so I was mad for them, I always loved going to Dalkey.' The Love Is All Around singer was speaking ahead of his return to Ireland, where he will take to the stage at Trinity College Dublin on July 6. And he returns again with Wet Wet Wet on September 6, when the band perform at Oakfest 2025 alongside Boney M and the Whistlin' Donkeys. Marti Pellow. Pic: During previous gigs here, Pellow would often receive gifts from fans, and one certainly sticks in his memory. 'I played in Limerick. I thought, I'll go for a wee walk about in the audience,' he recalled. 'I'm singing away and I felt a wee tap on the shoulder, and the woman stood up and presented me with a full-on black pudding.' On another occasion, an elderly lady who, after reading somewhere that he liked peas, would bring him a can of his favourite legumes every time she saw him perform. And Pellow said of his Irish female fans: 'I always find them to be quite fiery. They don't suffer fools easily and are strong, powerful women. I think that's to be respected.' The Angel Eyes singer also revealed he is a fan of Mary Black and her daughter Róisín Ó. 'I'm just a big fan of her too, and, you know, what a talented family,' he added. Marti Pellow performs at Trinity College on July 6. Tickets are available at
