Nineties heartthrob reveals love for Dublin fish and chip shop

Wet Wet Wet singer Marti Pellow has revealed his love for a famous fish and chip shop in Dublin.
The Scottish star is no stranger to Ireland and has fond childhood memories of visiting family friends here. He has a soft spot for Dalkey and Howth in Co. Dublin, and long ago made a Sweet Surrender to one well-known chipper in particular.

'I've been coming to Ireland since I was a wee boy, truth be known, because I had some family friends and my mum and dad had family friends that lived in Dalkey,' he said. 'I would visit them, and that's where I had my first boxty [a traditional Irish potato cake].
'We call them tatty scones and in Scotland, it's quite similar, but you know when I was a wee boy, I would always say, 'Oh, my auntie made boxes well.' She made them so I was mad for them, I always loved going to Dalkey.'
The Love Is All Around singer was speaking ahead of his return to Ireland, where he will take to the stage at Trinity College Dublin on July 6. And he returns again with Wet Wet Wet on September 6, when the band perform at Oakfest 2025 alongside Boney M and the Whistlin' Donkeys. Marti Pellow. Pic: VIPIRELAND.COM
During previous gigs here, Pellow would often receive gifts from fans, and one certainly sticks in his memory.
'I played in Limerick. I thought, I'll go for a wee walk about in the audience,' he recalled. 'I'm singing away and I felt a wee tap on the shoulder, and the woman stood up and presented me with a full-on black pudding.'
On another occasion, an elderly lady who, after reading somewhere that he liked peas, would bring him a can of his favourite legumes every time she saw him perform.
And Pellow said of his Irish female fans: 'I always find them to be quite fiery. They don't suffer fools easily and are strong, powerful women. I think that's to be respected.'
The Angel Eyes singer also revealed he is a fan of Mary Black and her daughter Róisín Ó.
'I'm just a big fan of her too, and, you know, what a talented family,' he added.
