Arsenal's Gabriel Martinelli welcomes new signings amid definite competition for game time

SINGAPORE – In a summer where transfer speculation has circled largely over Arsenal's front three and what it may look like come the start of the season in August, winger Gabriel Martinelli has instead extended a warm welcome to the club's new signings and vows to do his best for the team. The Gunners are in town for this week's Singapore Festival of Football where they will play friendlies against AC Milan on July 23 and Newcastle United on July 27 at the National Stadium. Arsenal have been busy in the ongoing summer transfer window. Noni Madueke, their fourth and most recent acquisition from city rivals Chelsea, will offer star player Bukayo Saka some much-needed competition on the right wing. However, Madueke, primarily left-footed, has not been a stranger to playing on the opposite flank and Martinelli, a left-sided forward, has chosen to view it in a positive light. In an interview with The Straits Times on July 21, Martinelli said: 'I'm really happy with the signings. Really good players. We're trying to help them feel (at) home. I look forward to playing with them.' Arsenal's other summer signings include Kepa Arrizabalaga, also from Chelsea, Martin Zubimendi from Real Sociedad and Christian Norgaard from fellow London club Brentford. There could yet be more arrivals in the coming weeks. Real Madrid winger Rodrygo has been linked with the club while Sporting Lisbon striker Viktor Gyokeres is heavily tipped to join them in what could turn out to be one of the standout deals of the summer. Martinelli himself managed eight goals in 33 appearances. When asked what kind of striker complements his style of play, he chose to keep his options within the current squad. 'I really like Kai (Havertz) and Gabby Jesus. For example, Gabby likes to rotate with me. I like to cross as well and Kai is always there. I like to play with them both,' said the Brazilian, whose personal goals for the season are to 'stay fit and help the team win titles'. He added: 'Three seasons (we've) been second. We want to win it (the English Premier League) this year. We're going to try our best.' The north London club have not won a top-flight title in 21 years. He hopes that this season will be the start of something special, beginning with their pre-season tour of Singapore, a new destination for the 24-year-old. 'I'm looking forward to seeing the fans in the stadium, people (who) wake up in the middle of the night to watch us. 'We're going to try our best to win the games and make them happy,' said Martinelli, who enjoys the hot weather here, which is similar to his native Brazil. Along with goalkeeper David Raya and centre-back Gabriel Magalhaes, Martinelli attended a fan meet-and-greet session at the Adidas Brand Centre Orchard, where the Gunners' away kit for the 2025-26 season was unveiled. It will be worn for the first time when the team take to the National Stadium pitch against Milan. Engaged couple Brandon Rajendra and Adelia Soh were two lucky fans to get up close with the trio of players and they grabbed the opportunity with both hands, bringing their wedding portrait as memorabilia to be signed. Rajendra, 26, said: 'We want to hang it up in our house.' 'Directly above our bed,' added Soh, 25, with a laugh. After the Singapore Festival of Football, Arsenal will continue their pre-season tour in Asia with a friendly north London derby against arch rivals Tottenham Hotspur in Hong Kong before returning to England for home games against Villarreal and Athletic Bilbao.

'Put up or shut up' - fan views on Gabriel comments

We asked for your views on Gabriel's statement that this season "will be different" after admitting Arsenal have "let a couple of titles slip through our fingers".Here are some of your comments:Matt: I mean you'd expect to hear it from a player. I'm not sure I'm convinced Viktor Gyokeres and Martin Zubimendi will complete the team. Still far too reliant on Bukayo Saka. Having Eberechi Eze on the left would mean teams are far less likely to double up on Saka and take him out of the game. That said, maybe Gabriel Martinelli will come good when there's a dangerman up front who can sweep in his cut-backs. Any true Arsenal fan is wary of optimism, but who knows? Trust the process everyone!Rachel: I would love this season to be different! In reality we all know it can take time for a new team to gel together. With new players comes a change in the dynamic and although I'm confident the new signings will work out well, we could still be waiting a while before everything news notifications on your clubGuy: I don't share Gabriel's confidence. If you look at the squad this season I don't think it has improved from the squad we started last season with. We have seen our rivals make improvements though. I see us slipping further down the table and we will be fighting for top four rather than the It's make or break for this team and the manager this season. We have to win big, simple as that. Players will leave if the title isn't won. We are signing big players so hopefully they produce the performances the fans deserve. It's time to stop talking and go out on that pitch and I think it will be the same, but nearer to the eventual Once we sign Gyokeres he'll have everything in place for a title push - the striker every fan has been crying out for the past few seasons, cover in every position and a rock solid midfield. However, that will leave nowhere for Arteta and the players to hide. It's time to finally put up, or shut up!Vince: I'm cautiously confident we can make that final step this time. It looks like we finally have enough depth in quality to withstand the worst injury crisis, and are well balanced in terms of dependable seniors and exciting juniors. Get that forward in, bring Jesus back from injury and we should be celebrating something next May.

Arsenal transfers: Bayern Munich give up on Leandro Trossard and eye team-mate instead

Arsenal have been extremely active in the summer transfer window but outgoings are also on the cards and Bayern Munich have now set their sights on a second Gunners star Bayern Munich could turn their attention to Gabriel Martinelli with the chances of a deal to bring his Arsenal team-mate, Leandro Trossard, to Germany now looking slim. ‌ The German giants are among the clubs who have been linked with Trossard, 30, in recent weeks with the Belgium international now in the final year of his contract at The Emirates. But it has now emerged that such a move is unlikely, with Trossard said to be in the sights of Fenerbahce. ‌ Bayern remain in the market for a new wide forward, though, and it has now been claimed another Arsenal player has emerged as a target in Martinelli. ‌ The Athletic claim that the Brazil international, 24, is once again of interest to Bayern as his current club search for a new left winger. Martinelli currently has two years remaining on his current deal and there have been suggestions that Arsenal may need to sanction a big-money sale to offset their own planned spending spree. The Gunners are pursuing a £70million deal for Viktor Gyokeres with a £50m swoop for Noni Madueke also close to completion. ‌ Those deals, plus a proposed swoop for Valencia's Cristhian Mosquera, would see their spending break the £200m barrier. And with Crystal Palace 's Eberechi Eze also of interest, outgoings are likely, even if Arsenal are unlikely to actually want to sell a player of Martinelli's calibre. Bayern also hold an interest in Luis Diaz of Liverpool, who have already rejected a £58m bid from the German champions for their winger. ‌ Said offer was both received and rebuffed on Tuesday, with Liverpool having no interest in selling Diaz. However, the Colombia international is understood to have made it clear that he would like to leave Anfield this summer. Diaz was heavily linked with Barcelona earlier as well as Bayern earlier in the summer. They have since tried - and failed - in a bid to land Nico Williams from Athletic Club. Bayern are short in the left wing position following the departure of Leroy Sane, who signed for Galatasaray earlier this summer.

Noni Madueke outshines Arsenal stars where it matters most despite petition for Gunners NOT to sign £55m Chelsea winger

IN one of the most important transfer windows in Mikel Arteta's tenure, the pursuit of Chelsea's £55million-rated Noni Madueke has divided the Arsenal fanbase. So much so that since the 3 Arsenal fans are in meltdown over a £55million move for Chelsea winger Noni Madueke Credit: Getty 3 Stats show Madueke would be an upgrade over Gabriel Martinelli and Leandro Trossard Credit: Reuters But the numbers show that there is method behind the supposed madness, with As well as a world class No.9 – with It is why Raheem Sterling was brought in on a last-ditch Deadline Day loan last summer, and highlighted further during Saka's three month absence last term following hamstring surgery. Athletic Bilbao's Nico Williams and Real Madrid's Rodrygo have been monitored during this window, only for negotiations to break down over the past few weeks, while Crystal Palace's Eberechi Eze – with a £68m release clause – and Atalanta's Ademola Lookman remain ongoing targets. READ MORE IN FOOTBALL Madueke – a left-footer who can play on both flanks – has struggled to nail down a permanent starting spot under Blues boss Enzo Maresca, with seven Prem goals and three assists in 27 starts last campaign. So, it begs the question: Why does Arteta want him? The answer appears to lie in the England international's bravery on the ball from wide positions, something Arsenal struggled with last year, especially on the left through Martinelli and Trossard. Having netted 91 Prem goals in 2023/24, they scored 22 fewer last term. Arguably, this was largely down to long-term injuries to strikers Kai Havertz and Gabriel Jesus. Most read in Football BEST FREE BETS AND BETTING SIGN UP OFFERS But Arteta's system relies on creativity and bursts of energy down the flanks to commit defenders and create spaces for the likes of Martin Odegaard and Declan Rice through the middle, with accurate deliveries into the box essential also. Last season, Belgium international Trossard averaged 2.8 attempted dribbles per game, completing 1.3 of them. Brazilian Martinelli averaged 3.9 attempted dribbles, but also with a completion rate of 1.3. Viktor Gyokeres prepares for LOAN as Arsenal saga rumbles on | Transfers Exposed Join SUN CLUB for the Arsenal Files every Friday plus in-depth coverage and exclusives from The Emirates This is where Madueke, 23, stands out – averaging 4.3 attempted dribbles for Chelsea last season, completing two of them every 90 minutes. While the right-footed pair of Trossard and Martinelli more often than not like to cut inside, Madueke offers something different in driving past defenders and crossing with his left – a potential X-factor that Arsenal are missing, especially with a target man like Havertz, and potentially Gyokeres, waiting in the box. With an elite striker to provide for, as opposed to the hugely inconsistent Nicolas Jackson, Madueke's numbers would likely improve alongside better players in a tried-and-tested system. In other metrics, Madueke can match and often improve on Trossard and Martinelli. He averaged 2.8 open-play crosses per 90, more than Trossard [2.7] but less than Martinelli [3.5], with 0.5 of them being successful [Trossard 0.5, Martinelli 0.8]. 3 Madueke also created on average 0.3 big chances per 90 [Martinelli 0.3, Trossard 0.5]. In terms of touches per 90, Madueke is always heavily involved in build-up play with an average of 47 [Martinelli 42, Trossard 50] and completed 26 passes per game [Martinelli 23, Trossard 30]. There is also the added bonus of Madueke's versatility, something Arteta loves in a player, being able to play on the right too, providing competition for Saka and on occasion giving the England star a much-needed rest during a gruelling campaign. Obsessive in nature, Arteta does just as much homework on what a transfer target is like off the pitch as well as on it, ensuring they have the right temperament and professionalism to seamlessly blend in with a dressing room the Spanish coach has worked so hard to build in North London. Back in December, after dropping the player for a clash against Aston Villa, Maresca explained: 'The moment that he starts to score or assist and is happy, he starts to drop a little bit. I don't like the way he trained. He has to understand that he has to train well every day, he has to be ambitious.' But speaking to those closest to Madueke, SunSport has been told that despite reported doubts, the player has a 'top mentality', is desperate to play with and against the best at the highest level and would relish the chance to fight for a starting spot at Arsenal. It may be an unpopular signing, but Madueke may well be a young star that Arteta is willing to mould into a game-changer that can win over the ever-demanding Arsenal fans.

Fabrizio Romano denies rumours of Martinelli joining Al Nassr

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has shut down rumours suggesting that Arsenal winger Gabriel Martinelli is set to join Saudi Pro League side Al Nassr this summer. Multiple reports had claimed that Al Nassr had approached the Brazilian forward with the intention of luring him away from the Premier League. However, Romano clarified on social media that there has been 'no contact at all' between Martinelli and the Saudi club. Advertisement Romano also stated that Al Nassr are currently focused on other transfer targets and have not pursued the Arsenal star. Moreover, the forward is reportedly not interested in the project offered by the Saudi outfit and remains committed to his future at the Emirates Stadium. Martinelli, who has become a key part of Mikel Arteta's plans, is eager to continue his development with Arsenal and help the team push for major honours in the upcoming season.
