Roma and the beautiful mess of Serie A
Watching Roma play is kind of like opening an old board game you haven't touched in years. You remember the rules, sort of. But then halfway through, the pieces don't fit right, someone makes up a new move, and it still ends up being the most fun you've had all week. It's not the cleanest club in Serie A — not in terms of gameplay or results — but that's not really the point. With Roma, it's not about precision. It's about tension. Emotion. That slightly chaotic build-up to either magic or disaster. Fans don't follow the team expecting perfect play. They follow because no one else does drama quite like this. Advertisement And like in any risky game, you kind of have to accept the gamble. There's a weird similarity with online experiences where outcomes aren't fixed. Think late equalizers, strange red cards, injuries out of nowhere — it feels like a round of something wild on The strategy's there, sure. But chance? Oh, there's plenty of that too. What Roma Gives You — Besides Heart Attacks Nobody can accuse Roma of being boring. Even their dull matches come with a subplot. A miscommunication. A flare in the crowd. A coach staring into the void, questioning life. Some of the things fans have grown accustomed to when it comes to the Giallorossi are: Advertisement Inconsistent results (as we saw at the beginning of last season) Games that shift moods three times in one half Transfer market drama And still, the Olimpico fills up. That's love. Or madness—it depends on who you ask. A Club That's Always Searching for Itself Despite its popularity and notoriety, Roma have struggled to attain the same silverware as northern rivals Juventus, Milan, and Inter. Opinion varies as to why the club has only won four league titles. The weird part is that Roma keeps trying to reinvent itself by overhauling it squad or appointing a new manager. Despite the changes the team always ends up playing like…Roma. It seemingly doesn't matter who's coaching, whether it's Paulo Dybala or Matias Soule on the pitch—there's always that same mix of promise and fragility. Advertisement Even the Special One, José Mourinho, couldn't completely change that. He added steel, a bit of arrogance, and some European bite. Winning the Conference League, which gave the fans something to finally shout about. But then, of course, they went and finished sixth in Serie A — classic. You start to notice a pattern after a while: Big games? They show up. Lesser teams? They overthink. Underperform. Suffer. And yet, there's no giving up. The squad shifts, the tactics get tweaked, the fan songs stay loud. It's a loop. But not a boring one. Serie A Isn't What It Used to Be — And Neither Is Roma The league's faster now. Less of that slow, chess-match stuff people used to associate with Italian football. Teams like Atalanta and Napoli run like they've been drinking energy drinks all season. Advertisement Roma? They're trying to keep up, but they still carry that old-school weight. It's like they're half in the past, half in a rebuild. Still, they've got things going for them: A fanbase that doesn't care what others think A kind of mythos that turns even bad seasons into 'chapters' of something bigger Other clubs chase trophies. Roma chases meaning. Even a 1–0 win can feel like an opera if the tension was right. And if it was a Derby? That's a whole Greek tragedy in ninety minutes. You Don't Root for Roma — You Live It Supporting this team isn't a hobby. It's a full-time side quest. You check news, you argue about formations, you pretend you don't care and then scream at the screen. It's a relationship with way too many ups and downs, but leaving isn't an option. Advertisement So no, Roma isn't a polished product. It's not Juventus. It's not Milan. But it has soul. And in a football world that keeps getting sleeker and colder, maybe that's why people still care. They want something real. Something messy. Something human. And Roma? Roma is all of that — sometimes too much of it.

Ex-Arsenal star called out for having a big mouth and picking on young players by rival after heated on-pitch exchange last season
Paulo Dybala has reignited his war of words with a former Arsenal player - stating that his rival 'talks too much' among his flaws. Dybala and the player in question have had a simmering dispute since April 2024 when the two went head-to-head in a bitter local derby. The quarrelling duo had to be separated by team-mates after a heated confrontation on the pitch. Dybala's recent nemesis? Matteo Guendouzi. The ex-Arsenal midfielder currently plies his trade at Lazio and it was last year's Rome derby against eternal foes Roma - whom Dybala plays for - where the sparks first flew. And recalling the incident, Dybala told Sergio Aguero 's podcast La Casa del Kun: 'That guy talks too much and picks on the youngsters.' Expanding further, the Argentina forward revealed that Guendouzi tried to belittle Roma team-mate Matias Soule - dating back to Lazio clashes against Frosinone, the latter's former club. 'That Frenchman has a big mouth and he annoys the youngsters in particular, he always takes it out on them. 'He would tell them: "I'll buy you a ticket, I'll send you home", he always did that to the youngsters. For example, Soule played for Frosinone the year before and he told us that he always told him: "I'll buy you one".' That example angered Dybala who sought to silence his opponent during the derby, which Roma won 1-0, in more ways than one. 'It made me really angry, so I went to the pitch to look for him. We said everything. 'Then I remembered that they had just given me the shin guard with the photo of the World Cup [won against France in 2022], and I showed it to him. He didn't say anything.' The already-explosive Rome derby next season is bound to have some added spice next season.

Evan Ndicka could be sacrificed due to FFP
Roma may be forced to make a sacrifice in the upcoming transfer window. Given that the club will have to operate under UEFA's strict supervision in light of the signed Settlement Agreement, Roma are looking to prioritize certain players over others. Advertisement Today's edition of La Gazzetta dello Sport suggests that the Giallorossi are ready to keep at all costs the likes of Mile Svilar, Matias Soule and Manu Kone. All three players are considered key pieces for the club's future plans. On the other hand, Evan Ndicka, one of Roma's best and most consistent players this season, may have to be sold in order to generate the necessary capital gain that would allow Roma to respect FFP parameters. Ndicka has already caught the attention of several top European clubs.

📈 Power Rankings: Barcelona still on top after cup success
Power Rankings are back with the top three having consolidated their positions in recent weeks. Here are the 10 sides in our updated Power Rankings table. 📈 Power Rankings: Barcelona still on top after cup success 10. Roma (🆕) Roma return to our Power Rankings after a huge win for I Giallorossi. Matias Soule's goal secured a 1-0 win at former league leaders Inter Milan, extending Roma's unbeaten league run to 18 games. The capital club were 15th in the table in early December but have rose to sixth under the management of the wily Claudio Ranieri. Just two points separate Roma from the Champions League places. 9. Newcastle United (No change) Newcastle got back to business at the weekend with a comfortable 3-0 win over 10-man Ipswich. Goals from Alexander Isak, Dan Burn and William Osula sealed the points and condemned Ipswich to relegation. Advertisement The Magpies are third in the table and targeting their highest Premier League finish since 2002/03 (3rd). 8. Arsenal (👎 Last week: 6) Arsenal's season is in real danger of ending with nothing. Their fading title dream officially ended at the weekend and a full focus on their Champions League showdown with Paris Saint-Germain failed to deliver the required result. A 1-0 defeat at the Emirates leaves the Gunners with a huge task to progress. 7. Inter Milan (👎 Last week: 5) Inter Milan's grip on the Scudetto is loosening after defeat at home to Roma last weekend. The loss was Inter's third consecutive reverse in all competitions, the first time the Nerazzurri have endured such run since 2017. Advertisement Simeone Inzaghi's side issued a fine response in midweek, after a thrilling six-goal draw at Barcelona in their Champions League semi-final. With the return at the San Siro next week, it's arguably advantage Inter. 6. Real Madrid (👎 Last week: 4) Real Madrid failed in their quest to end Barcelona's treble dream after an extra-time defeat to their arch-rivals in the Copa del Rey final. Los Blancos looked on course for silverware after goals from Kylian Mbappe and Aurelien Tchouameni cancelled out Pedri's opener, but Ferran Torres equalised to force the added period. Heartbreak was confirmed when Jules Kounde smashed home on 116 minutes, with red cards for Antonio Rudiger and Lucas Vazquez in the final seconds showing the frustration. 5. Manchester City (👍 Last week: 10) After a season of setbacks, Mancehster City are on the rise again. It's six wins in seven games for Pep Guardiola's side, who have an FA Cup final to look forward to after beating Nottingham Forest at the weekend. Advertisement Goals from Rico Lewis and Josko Gvardiol booked a final date with Crystal Palace, and a challenging campaign will conclude with a Wembley showdown. 4. Bayern Munich (👍 Last week: 8) Bayern Munich are almost there. After being dethroned last season for the first time in over a decade, Bayern are one win from reclaiming the Bundesliga. Vincent Kompany's side made light work of Champions League-chasing Mainz at the weekend, as goals from former Premier League alumni Leroy Sane, Michael Olise and Eric Dier did the damage. Bayern are eight points clear with three games to go and, almost certainly, set to be champions again. Advertisement 3. Liverpool (No change) It's official, Liverpool are champions of England again. Liverpool's coronation has been inevitable for some time but the party can now get in full swing. Sunday's celebrations at Anfield were 35 years in the making, with the club's 2019/20 title success won behind closed doors. Now, the Reds are keen to make up for it. 2. Paris Saint-Germain (No change) Paris Saint-Germain's bid to become French football's first Invincibles fell at the 31st hurdle. Perhaps with one eye on Europe, the Ligue 1 champions were beaten 3-1 at home by Nice. Luis Enrique's side won the clash that most mattered, however, edging out Arsenal 1-0 at the Emirates. A place in the Champions League final is within touching distance. 1. Barcelona (No change) Barcelona have claimed the first leg of a potential treble, beating Real Madrid 3-2 in an engrossing Copa del Rey final. Jules Kounde was the unlikely match-winner as the French full-back thundered in in extra time. Advertisement Their Champions League semi-final with Inter is also perfectly poised. An all-time classic ended 3-3 in Catalonia, ahead of next week's return at the San Siro. Hansi Flick will be confident, though the Catalans need to tighten up at the back. Serie A title race: Napoli seize top spot after Torino win, Inter falter against Roma
The Serie A title race has been turned on its head following Inter Milan's shocking 1-0 loss to AS Roma. The Nerazzurri were desperate to claim three points, but the capital giants made things difficult for the hosts, extending their struggles. Advertisement Matias Soule struck home early after pouncing on Carlos Augusto's botched clearance, putting Inter in a dire situation. Despite dominating possession, the Nerazzurri failed to create fruitful chances against a well-disciplined Roma defence. Simone Inzaghi's side appeared to be in pole position to achieve a treble, but their fortunes have taken a turn for the worse with three consecutive defeats in all competitions. It all started with a narrow defeat against Bologna before the humiliating loss against arch-rivals AC Milan in the Coppa Italia semi-finals. Napoli took advantage of Inter's failure by beating Torino 2-0 to move back to the top of the table. Scott McTominay scored a sublime double inside the first half to seal the game for Antonio Conte's side. Advertisement The Partenopei are now three points clear at the top, with only four games left. This season's scudetto race is turning out to be a nail-biting affair, with Napoli and Inter going toe to toe for the ultimate prize. However, it looks as though Napoli have the momentum on their side, and their relatively easy run-in means that they can get the job done without any hiccups. On the other hand, Inter are starting to falter at the worst time possible. The odds are also stacked against them, with tough fixtures against Lazio, Torino and Como ahead. The Champions League semi-finals against Barcelona could take a further toll on an already worn-out Inter.
