8 spots to get the best, most luscious chocolate cake in Dubai

World Chocolate Day is coming up on July 7, but let's be honest, we don't need any kind of excuse to indulge in a big, fat, dense slice of chocolate cake, the kind that makes all your problems go away. If you're looking to satisfy such a category of craving in Dubai, then we've got you covered with this list. By order of What's On , everyone gets chocolate cake. Jun's Now this is a special weekend treat. Jun's chocolate cake contains the magical powers of Chef Kelvin Cheung's genius and gluten-free goodness, so everyone can enjoy a slice come Thursday. Think layers upon layers of chocolate sponge cake topped with dark chocolate mousse & dark chocolate ganache topped with salted caramel and burnt milk crumble – sounds exquisite, and indeed, it is. The layers are thin, rich, packed with flavour and texture, and if this isn't a way to reward yourself on the weekend, we don't know what is. @junsdubai OMA OMA has heartwarming homegrown origins – the whole corporate-to-croissant type story, and while they do cakes and cookies, as well as some tinned varieties like the dream cake and tiramusi, their chocolate crack cake is a divine variation of the traditional chocolate cake. In a tin, like the ever popular dream cake format, with layers of rich Valrhona chocolate with just the right amount of crunch. Grab a spoon and work away through the creamy, dreamy layers. @ Rise Bakehouse Rise Bakehouse in Al Quoz is all about that perfect slice for one. Specialising of sorts in lunchbox cakes, those cute little mini things you've probably seen on your Instagram, they have a chocolate variety as well. Feuilletine chocolate crunch cake – a 4-inch, 2-layered chocolate cake with chocolate buttercream filling and dark chocolate feuilletine. It's enough for two people, but you don't have to share and we support that. Don't miss out on their workshops. @ Parker's Matilda Cake Miss Trunchbull and Bruce Bogtrotter's cake-filled saga has given birth to a Dubai desserts Instagram favourite – the Matilda Cake, found at Parker's outlets across the UAE. Videos of this massive cake slice encased in a little cardboard triangle and filled to the brim with chocolate sauce, and shots of the cardboard being lifted and the most inviting chocolate pour may be frequent on your explore page. Bruce's chocolate smeared face is the telltale sign, perched on little stick and stuck into the slice. It looks so good – the cravings are starting to hit. @parkers Melenzane A bit unconventional but this Milly Cake from Italian spot Melenzane has captured the attention and hearts of many. It's essentially a super creamy, rich, thick mousse, served in a dish with a jar of what looks like chocolate milk. Think crunchy hazelnut layers, silky mascarpone mousse, and rich cocoa anglaise which you can pour over top, drench the cake and have a bite. The entire experience is a party of textures, from the smooth mousse to the sweet milk and the crunchy bits on top. @melenzaneuae Circle Cafe Four layers of chocolate? Now you're talking. Circle Cafe's chocolate cake is one that is big, rich and perfect for when those cravings hit. The sizes are generous but once you've had a bite of this gooey creation, all thoughts of sharing go out the window. The icing is the star, steering away from the thick buttercream that sometimes overwhelms these cakes. The filling is much gooier and moreish as well, and all your chocolate cake dreams will come alive with a slice of this. @ Magnolia Bakery The people stay going gaga over the banana pudding from Magnolia Bakery, but some of their other treats are also drool-worthy, including the chocolate cake. In it's most traditional, authentic form, this two-layered cake comes with layers of soft, moist chocolate sponge, creamy, fluffy, icing and a touch of sprinkles around the edge. No fancy additions, no frilly ingredients – just pure chocolate goodness. Order a slice, or the whole cakes, because whoever said you can't have a whole cake to yourself was wrong. @magnoliabakeryuae Gateaux This one seems to be a resounding Dubai favourite, name-dropped on social media and the good old Reddit forums. The people have spoken, and they love Gateaux's devil's chocolate cake. This a classic one too – a dark moist chocolate sponge made with premium chocolate and layered with rich chocolate ganache, and topped with some fruit (for balance, of course). One of those family classic cakes you can order for a birthday or even for a special occasion, this one will serve a crowd. @gateaux_uae Images: Socials

Tesco shoppers point out 'issue' with giant 24-layer 'Matilda Cake'

The huge treat is available in supermarkets - but people are torn over one thing about the 'unreal' cake Tesco shoppers are divided over the latest food item to appear in the bakery section. For some, it sounds and looks delicious, but others can not get over one aspect of the treat that might prevent a few shoppers from trying it out altogether. The 'Matilda Cake' gets its name from the popular Roald Dahl story. In it, one of Matilda's classmates, Bruce Bogtrotter, is forced to eat an entire chocolate cake during a school assembly as punishment for allegedly stealing a slice earlier that day. Inspired by the decadent movie version, a massive chocolate creation featuring an all-butter sponge made with dark chocolate, layered, and covered in chocolate ganache, has landed in Tesco. In total, it has 24 handcrafted layers, making it worthy of the "ginormous" label on the side of the box. The mega slab of cake comes from Studio Bakery and is being sold in Tesco stores across the UK for £16. There's also a Victoria Sponge version for £16, too, if the thought of that much chocolate overwhelms your senses. The bakery, which is based in Lancashire, is a family-run business with a passion for baking, innovation, and creating delicious sweet treats by hand. The Studio Bakery website offers different flavours of the Matila Cake, including peppermint (also £16) and a sold-out Baileys-infused version (£18). The huge treat, which definitely has to be shared, is easy to spot on shop shelves as people took to TikTok after spotting a slice in the supermarket. Online food blogger @newfoodspotteruk picked up a piece from their local supermarket and said the dessert is "one of the nicest cakes [they've] ever tried", and added: "This cake is UNREAL! 10/10!" More videos were posted online as other shoppers wanted to try the massive treat for themselves, like TikTok user Shavani (@khoslaa), who wanted to compare it to the previously viral Bruce chocolate cake. In the comment section, one said: "Looks delicious" Another added: "I need this ASAP!" But, some people couldn't avoid 'one huge issue' - and it's not the size of the cake. One person wrote: "I love the idea of this. I just can't justify the £16!" Someone else said: "£16 for a cake slice is madness!" A fifth added: "£16! Is it worth that price?" And, one more commented: "I'll wait till it goes in the reduced section. Not paying that much for a piece of cake!" But, some people couldn't avoid 'one huge issue' - and it's not the size of the cake. One person wrote: "I love the idea of this. I just can't justify the £16!" Overeating high-calorie foods like this often will have a serious impact on your health. The NHS states on its website: "The key to a healthy diet is to eat the right amount of calories for how active you are so you balance the energy you consume with the energy you use. If you eat or drink more than your body needs, you'll put on weight because the energy you do not use is stored as fat." Tesco has been approached for comment. 'Matilda cake' launches in Tesco but chocolate fans hesitate over price

A 24-layer sweet treat inspired by Bruce Bogtrotter's cake in the classic children's book and film, Matilda, was launched in Tesco recently, but many fans cannot get past the price Chocolate fans are buzzing after spotting a delicious chocolate cake that resembles the iconic cake from book and film Matilda. We all remember when Bruce Bogtrotter was caught stealing a slice of scary head teacher Miss Trunchbull's chocolate cake - and, as punishment, was forced to chomp through an entire 18-inch cake. The sweet treat has become well-known and many people have tried to recreate their own versions at home. But if you are not a great baker, or simply don't have the time or equipment, brands and bakeries have also recreated their own versions of the famous cake. Leeds-based bakery Baked released a 24-inch layered cake named Bertha in London's Fortnum Mason earlier this year. ‌ And now, Tesco has brought out a 'Matilda cake' that you can pick up in stores nationwide. However, some people are concerned about how much it costs. ‌ Created by Lancashire's Studio Bakery, it is a 24-layer chocolate treat featuring 'scrumptious all-butter sponge made with dark chocolate, layered and covered in luscious chocolate ganache,' according to Tesco's website. It is also said be "fantastic" when served hot, if you warm it up in the microwave for 30-40 seconds. Studio Bakery said: "Our chocolate Matilda cake is a 24-layer love letter to chocolate in all its fudgy, gooey glory. Every slice is hand-cut, hand-finished, and properly decadent, making it perfect for parties, birthdays, or a solo moment of glory with a spoon and zero regrets." The product is said to served 10 people, but many chocolate lovers cannot get past its £16 price tag. It comes after @johns_snackreviews on Instagram shared a post and said: "NEW Matilda Cake by the Studio Bakery! Out now at Tesco for £16!" "16 quid for cake! No ta," commented one. "£16. Is it worth that price?" added another. One other said: "Omg need, but £16?" ‌ Meanwhile, after @newsfoodspotteruk shared a video of the cake online, one commented: "Bruce Bogtrotter is on his way to Tesco." One other insisted it looks "unreal". The product is available online or in Tesco stores. Tesco has been contacted for a comment. In other food news, for everyone who's ever been disappointed by soggy sweet potato fries, a food influencer known as Pinch of Mint has got you covered with a special trick to ensure they come out irresistibly crispy. Plus, Jaffa Cake fans have issued a complaint after spotting a difference in taste of the iconic McVities treats. Will you be rushing to pick up a box of the viral cake? Comment below.

Tesco shoppers going wild over £16 chocolate cake that's ‘best they've ever had'

Metro journalists select and curate the products that feature on our site. If you make a purchase via links on this page we will earn commission – learn more It's the simple things in life, right? The sun shining, a good hair day and your local supermarket launching a tempting new sweet treat. And Tesco might have nailed it with its latest release. The retailer has teamed up with Studio Bakery, a family-run bakery business from Lancashire, to start selling the brand's giant slices of cake inspired by a nostalgic favourite – you know, that one you always wanted to reach through the screen and smash your face into in Matilda. The aptly named Matilda Cake, is a beast of a chocolate cake slice that claims to serve 10 and sees 12 layers of chocolate sponge and 12 layers of ganache stacked one on top of the other. Priced at £16 for the slice, (which is meant to serve 10 people) the product can be found in Tesco's bigger stores, but not the Express ones. On social media, shoppers have hailed it the 'best chocolate cake they've ever had', with Frankie French posting in the Food Finds UK Official group to say: 'Best chocolate cake I've ever tried, this Studio Bakery Big Matilda Cake. Can't wait to be able to buy it in Tesco.' Connor James replied to say he thought it looked 'amazing' as Cerise Gant commented: 'Oh this will be lethal' Paige Mitchell was also excited by the new product, writing: 'Oh my that will fulfil my pregnancy cravings.' 'I've tried it, it's delicious,' claimed Ashleigh Howard, and Simon Hodgson wasn't keen to share his, replying: 'Serves 10, who are they kidding?' Others compared it to the Costco chocolate cake, the Ultimate Bruce cake from Kake Temptations and the iconic Bertha from Get Baked, a Manchester-based company that sells out slabs of its giant chocolate cake each week. Having tried the Get Baked version, which costs £20 plus postage, I knew I had to see how this one compares. My first impression is that it doesn't look as visually appealing as Bertha. The sponge looks dense and dry, and the ganache is lacking a shine. But it's very much a case of appearances being deceiving as the Matilda cake is much moister than it looks. It's rich, without being too sickly sweet, and oh so enjoyable with a cup of tea. The box recommends heating it up, so that's what I did and I loved the flexibility of being able to enjoy this as both a piece of cake and a hot, molten chocolate pudding, depending on what you're in the mood for. There's also a claim on the box that it serves 10, but I'd say you'd be cheating people out of cake if you stretched it that far. In the Metro office the slice was split between six of us and there were no leftovers. Make of that what you will… This cake is soooo much better than your average supermarket chocolate cake, there's no denying that. More Trending But when it comes down to the wire, the overall quality is higher with the Get Baked product, in terms of the look, taste and even the packaging. Yes, you're spending more, but you definitely get what you pay for in this situation. Bertha's sponge is fresh and moist, the ganache is silky smooth and glossy and it's wrapped carefully in tissue paper inside a visually striking box. In every way possible it feels like a premium product. The Matilda Cake doesn't quite live up to that, but it's a close second. View More » This doesn't surprise me too much though, after all, it is being mass-produced for a supermarket, so it didn't really stand a chance. Do you have a story to share?
