Fellow stars of the last series, Andy Ryan and Nelly Ghaffar also took the comments to react to the joyous news, with Nelly penning: 'Aww how amazing is that congratulations' and Andy adding: 'Congratulations to you both. Amazing.' Alison's sweet comment came after fans joked that the presenter had a crush on Matty during his time in the tent, with many predicting they were going to 'run away' together. Taking to social media to comment on the pair's chemistry, they quipped: 'Alison and Matty are in love and I cannot blame them'; Alison coming on to Matty is better than any dating show we've ever watched'; 'When they do the 'What the contestants have been up to' segment, I hope Matty and Alison have run away and opened a patisserie in the south of France.' While even those working on the show clocked their playful banter, with one insider saying: 'When it was recorded earlier this year, we all knew that the chemistry would become a thing.' Matty was crowned the winner of series 14 of the Channel 4 series, beating out stiff competition from Dan Hunter and Josh Smalley. Fellow series 14 alums Cristy Sharp, Nicky Laceby and Dana Conway were among those racing to congratulate their pal Just days after the final aired in November 2023, he announced that he and then-girlfriend Lara were engaged. Following the announcement that he'd won, The Great British Bake Off 's X account shared a post congratulating Matty and Lara on their engagement. The post read: 'A huge congratulations from all of us at Bake Off to Matty and Lara on their engagement!' Matty revealed in his exit interview that he had proposed to his longtime love during a trip to Sorrento in Italy and gushed that it was one of the 'happiest moments of his life'. In the photo Lara showed off her beautiful dazzling ring as he hugged her and planted a sweet kiss on her cheek. The couple then tied the knot in a romantic ceremony in May last year, with Matty gushing on Instagram at the time: 'Signed, sealed and delivered, she can't turn back now! 'We had a the best time celebrating our special day with the people we love the most. Thank you so much to everyone who came, you made our day what it was. Ps. How stunning does my wife look?!' He had previously shared that Lara was the one responsible for signing him up for the competition, admitting he thought he 'wasn't good enough' to compete in the series. Just days after the final aired in November 2023, he announced that he and then-girlfriend Lara were engaged While competing, Matty repeatedly called himself 'the official underdog', since many of his fellow contestants had more baking experience by comparison to him, after he grew up learning from his grandmother. After being named the winner, he said: 'I don't know what to say... everyone said you should go on Bake Off and I thought it was a throwaway comment and never really listened to it. I never thought I would be on the show let alone win it!' He sweetly added, mentioning Lara: 'I hope GBBO might just change my life a little bit, but being a PE teacher is something I really enjoy at the moment. 'I loved being in the tent and another of my happiest life moments was when I got engaged in Sorrento to my fiancée Lara. 'I am not sure what's next for me, but my next big baking project is making our wedding cake. I am just going to keep enjoying it.' In his Instagram post after the final aired he said of Lara: 'I can't imagine I was fun to live with at times and I am so grateful for the sacrifices you made for me throughout this! I don't think I made dinner for 10 weeks. 'You had to live the Bake Off journey with me but never got to do the fun part. Through the highs and lows of my journey, you picked me up countless times, supported me and gave me the confidence I needed each week. 'Without you I wouldn't have been able to do any of it (literally, Lara, I now thank you for applying for me.' Ahead of starring on the show, Matty was working as a PE and science teacher at Hampton College from Cambridgeshire. He said that his students were 'impressed' by his baking skills when the competition started airing on Channel 4 and voiced his excitement to 'share the win' with him. He told the broadcaster: 'The pupils at school were a bit impressed that I was in the series and I did get some really nice comments at school. 'I know they will think it's cool that I have won but at the same time, they will be really surprised. 'They have invested in me throughout the series so there will be a sense of pride with them all sharing the win with me.' But last year, Matty revealed he'd quit his 'much-loved' teaching job in order to pursue his baking passion. Speaking to BBC News in July, he admitted his last day was 'extremely emotional', but that he was 'apprehensive yet excited' for the next chapter, where he planned to write a book, get into TV and build his own cake business.
