Scots food reviewer left 'depressed' after visiting 'one of worst rated' McDonald's
Charlie Roscoe regularly visits establishments in Edinburgh and shares the experience on social media. A popular food reviewer paid a visit to one of the lowest-rated McDonald's in Scotland, which he said left him "depressed". Edinburgh-based Charlie Roscoe has amassed 25,000 followers on TikTok after he began visiting unsuspecting local eateries in his quest to find hidden gems. He recently ventured out of the capital to Midlothian, to try what he claimed was the country's worst branch of McDonald's. The modern outlet at Hardengreen has a TripAdvisor rating of just 1.6. Its Google rating is three stars from almost 1,300 reviews. Located between Bonnyrigg and Dalkeith, it is situated opposite a Tesco supermarket and newly-built Greggs and Starbucks, Edinburgh Live reports. In his video, Charlie read out some of the negative reviews the restaurant has been hit with, including complaints about the presentation of burgers and claims they were selling mouldy chicken nuggets. Not expecting much when he entered, he said he was "unpleasantly" surprised after watching a staff member wiping down tables, adding that it was "sparkling" inside. He said: "First impressions - the 'worst McDonald's in the country' was looking in good shape. It is one of few fancy modern McDonald's. I placed my order on the fancy kiosk trying to buy items people say they get wrong. "I then took myself upstairs where everything was clean. I even saw someone wiping down the tables in the flesh. Shoutout to this guy because the place was absolutely sparkling. "I'm already unpleasantly surprised at how normal this maccies is. The place is spotless, it's clean. I wanted to sit down and have rats crawling all over me but let's wait and see what the food is like." Join the Daily Record WhatsApp community! Charlie ordered a Big Mac meal, a Mayo Chicken and nine Chicken McNuggets and was immediately impressed with how warm the fries were and how well-presented his Big Mac was, which had previously attracted a slew of bad reviews. He admitted he expected 'a swarm of locusts' to fly out when he opened his Big Mac box, but again was surprised at how it looked and tasted overall. He continued: "I opened the nuggets next, expecting there to be one missing as a lot of people who left reviews said they forgot a nugget. But inside were nine, super crunchy, warm nuggies. "And by the way this McDonald's gave me a receipt and had working sauce dispensers, making it a lot better than most McDonald's I've been to. The Big Mac was next and I just straightened it up a little before eating instead of writing a huge review about it. "Honestly I was a bit depressed after this meal as I wanted it to be bad but honestly this was one of the better McDonald's I think I've ever been to. I think they must have upped their game after being announced as the worst in Scotland."

More info A popular Edinburgh food reviewer visited one of the lowest rated McDonald's in the country and the experience left him 'depressed'. Charlie Roscoe has built up 25k followers on TikTok after he started visiting unsuspecting local establishments in the hunt for hidden gems and to give a shoutout to restaurants that don't necessarily hit the headlines. Recently, he ventured out of Edinburgh to Midlothian and visited what he claims to be the worst McDonald's in the country. The two-storey fast food joint, at Hardengreen, Dalkeith, has a 1.6 rating on Tripadvisor. It also has a three-star rating from nearly 1,300 Google reviews. The restaurant is located between the towns of Bonnyrigg and Dalkeith and sits opposite a Tesco supermarket as well as a newly built Greggs and Starbucks. Before entering, Charlie reads out some of the reviews this particular branch has attracted, including people complaining about the presentation of their burger and allegedly being sold mouldy chicken nuggets. Expecting chaos as soon as he opened the doors, Charlie found himself "unpleasantly" surprised while sitting upstairs watching a member of staff wiping down tables. He went as far to say the interior was "sparkling." He said: "First impressions - the 'worst McDonald's in the country' was looking in good shape. It is one of few fancy modern McDonald's. McDonald's sneakily hikes price of popular menu items as customers moan about increases
MCDONALD'S has sneakily hiked the price of some its popular menu items, The Sun can reveal. We've found the price of four items has jumped by up to 15% in the last 12 months. 3 One item that's risen in price is the Steakhouse Stack, which returned this week Credit: McDonald's 3 The Biscoff McFlurry was £1.99 last year but now it's £2.29 3 The Mayo Chicken was once 99p - now it's £1.39 Credit: McDonald's This week, Maccies brought back its popular Steakhouse Stack burger - but now it's around 10% more expensive. Last year, it cost 5.49 for the burger alone or £7.19 for a meal but now it's £5.99 and £7.99 respectively. Its Biscoff Frappe is also back, costing £3.09 - but it was £2.99 last year. While its Biscoff McFlurry is now £2.29, up from £1.99. That's an increase of a huge 15%. We've also spotted that its Mayo Chicken burger on its Saver menu is now £1.49, up from £1.39 in November last year. Prices at McDonald's do vary based on the location, partly due to some being franchises, which means they set their own prices. It's unclear if other items have also gone up in price, as McDonald's did not respond to our question on this matter. A spokesperson for McDonald's said it refused "to compromise on the quality of our ingredients – and that means when these ingredients cost more, we have to review our prices". It added: "Raising some prices means we are able to stand by our quality commitments, like our beef patties being made from 100% British and Irish beef or our Chicken McNuggets being made from 100% chicken breast. We know how much these mean to our customers. "Providing value remains an absolute priority. We continue to work tirelessly to ensure that every customer has a value offering that works for them." Customers' fury at price hikes Customers have been moaning on social media, including Reddit, about the increases. One said: "Why has McDonald's gotten so expensive?!!! More than £5 for a Big Mac is just wild." McDonald's Minecraft Taste Test - Sam Walker The post quickly got hundreds of comments, with plenty of people in agreement. "Ive stopped eating there a while ago, I always had couple of double cheeseburgers, they were 1.59 each and a wrap of the day that was 1.99," another commenter said. "Right now double cheeseburgers are over 2 quid I think. It's just not worth it anymore. Big Mac is 5 quid and I will destroy it in 4-5 bites. I rather make food at home now." Another person wrote: "I remember the days an extra value meal was £2.88." Pressure on prices Retailers and restaurant chains have been forced to pass cost increases on to customers in recent years because of rising inflation and business costs. The UK Government also last month raised the cost of National Insurance contributions for employers, making it more expensive to keep and hire employees. In January, Greggs also confirmed a hike to prices in its shops.

One eagle-eyed customer spotted the Maccies treats in the freezer section and immediately filled up their basket. They posted a video on TikTok with the caption: "OMG look at all the McDonalds food in the company shop today." The footage shows a series of different frozen items similar to those on the McDonalds. Piles of Halloumi fries, Mozzarella bites and a patty called Chicken Nuggets Tempura were all on display in the supermarket freezers. Thrilled shoppers were quick to take to the comment section to find out how to get their hands on the fast food goods. One keen customer asked: "Can anyone go into this shop and buy stuff?" Another commented a series of dribbling emojis. A third queried: "Can anyone go in this shop and buy stuff?" The Halloumi Fries are mouthwatering, salty, cheese sticks covered in a thick crunchy crust. McDonald's Minecraft Taste Test - Sam Walker They were cut from the menu last year, much to the dismay of customers. Mozzarella bites are similar - they're deep-fried pieces of the popular cheese covered in breadcrumbs served up with tomato sauce. Thankfully these and the Mayo Chicken remain firmly on the McDonalds menu. Those keen to get their hands on the iconic burger get a crispy coated chicken with crunchy lettuce, a soft bun and, of course, cool mayonnaise. By picking up a pack of patty's you'll be able to recreate this legendary dish at home. All you need is a pack of the Chicken Nuggets Tempura, a bun, some lettuce and sauce and you're good to go. What's more, is that the home-made burger will likely be a fraction of the price. Company Shop sells a huge range of surplus stock at shockingly low prices including products from M&S, Tesco and Waitrose. It picks up these items for a range of reasons including overproduction, mislabelling, or changes to packaging, but they're all safe to eat and taste just as good. The products sold in Company Shop stores are surplus for a variety of reasons, such as overproduction, mislabelling, or changes to packaging. However, the items are still perfectly safe and fit for use, are sold at a discounted price. However, all the food sent to the UK-wide chain is repackaged and sold unbranded - so you're not able to tell which of your favourite restaurant or supermarket it was originally destined for. You might not realise exactly what you're purchasing as you'll take it home without the label, but one savvy shopper is confident they saw the iconic McDonalds menu items.
