Privately educated rugby player and his father killed in Southwark stabbing
The Metropolitan Police said a 58-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene, and three other men were taken to hospital Officers said a 31-year-old man, who is a British citizen and was initially detained in connection with the incident, was arrested on Monday. He remains in hospital and his condition is not life-threatening. Mr McMillan had run his business since 1999 and was behind hundreds of social housing and student bed units. The company describes itself as one of the capital's 'most distinctive and pioneering property companies' and that it aims to 'strive to be an innovative and forward-thinking company and implement this mindset in everything we do'. Mr McMillan, who grew up in Hackney, established a family trust in 2007 with his wife Sheron, also a director of Trademark Group, with the aim of helping people from underprivileged backgrounds. Rosemary George, 59, has worked as a cleaner for the family for the last 14 years. She said: 'I watched Brendan finish secondary school. From secondary school, he went to college and then university for four years. He had a gap year in America. He did physical education and was good at rugby as well. 'I WhatsApped him yesterday at 3pm and there was no answer. I was calling the office and there was no answer. I didn't know what had happened. I found out this morning. I have cleaned their house for almost ten years – twice a week at the house and here once every three weeks.' 'Terry doesn't like taking pictures. He was a fair man. He has a daughter and three sons. He lived with his wife Sheron in Chislehurst. The daughter is in her 30s. 'The office has roughly seven or eight people working there. It's not huge. Not all of them are family. I was worried because normally someone would always pick up the phone and nobody was picking up the phone.' More tributes have been left at the scene, with one stating: 'To our friend and family. You are a special person, loyal, loving and caring. You live as long as you are remembered. You will never be forgotten on or off the patch.' 'Absolutely devastating' On Tuesday, witnesses told of their shock over the incident and described hearing screams of 'help me!' before paramedics were later seen performing CPR on a man in a stretcher. One local described seeing a man thought to be the suspect receiving emergency medical treatment at the scene. 'I saw him get tackled to the ground,' he said. 'There were 12 to 15 people out the back. There was a load of commotion, hundreds of people looking out from the balconies. He was on the ground, facing down, shirtless. He was quite bloody.' Another witness said: 'It's terrifying. 'I walk past there all the time – it makes you feel really uneasy. You just don't expect something like this to happen on a normal weekday.' A crime scene remains in place and the investigation continues as forensic officers examine the area. On Tuesday, Labour MP Neil Coyle, who represents Bermondsey and Old Southwark, visited the scene. He described the attack as 'truly awful' and said the stabbings were 'targeted'. 'It's absolutely devastating for the family and the local community,' he said. 'Thankfully, police say this was an isolated incident. The man who carried out the attack knew the others involved. 'There's no excuse for what happened, but there's no further risk to the public. Police believe they have witnesses, but if anyone else saw anything, please contact the police and share any information you have.' 'Investigation continues at pace' He added: 'Lots of people will be shaken. As the local MP, I want to send my condolences to the family and everyone directly affected. 'But this is a safe community. This was a targeted, isolated incident. 'The man responsible is already detained, and as you can see, police are investigating thoroughly. Paramedics also did everything they could yesterday to try to save lives.' Det Ch Supt Emma Bond, who leads policing for the area, said: 'Our thoughts are first and foremost with the family and friends of the victims of this tragic incident. 'Our investigation continues at pace and we are working hard to understand the full circumstances. 'I understand there may be concern in the local community and there will be an increased police presence in the area over the coming days. 'I would also encourage anyone who may be worried to speak to an officer.'

Panthers 2025 training camp tracker: Top takeaways and observations from Day 5
The Carolina Panthers, for the first time this summer, have thrown on the pads. Here are the top takeaways and observations from Monday's (partially heated) outing of training camp . . . Activated Before the start of practice, the Panthers officially activated defensive lineman Bobby Brown III and punter Sam Martin from the active/non-football injury list. Both Brown and Martin were dealing with minor hamstring injuries. They are now cleared to return to the field. T-Mac hits back Rookie wideout Tetairoa McMillan was bested by starting cornerback Mike Jackson during one-on-one drills at Saturday's session. But the eighth overall pick got his lick back on the veteran this morning . . . Head coach Dave Canales talked about McMillan's breakaway speed. "He plays fast," Canales told reporters. "That was kinda going back to his film from Arizona. His play speed is what you look at. And yes, we take into consideration what the 40 time looks like. He ran a 4.5. He's fast. But he's a tall guy. And a lot of times, those guys, their stride builds up as they get going—in particular when he's running across the field. He can pretty much separate and run away from anybody, regardless of what the 40 time says." Quarterback Bryce Young then talked about McMillan's spectacular catch. "Yeah, that was a great job of him going and tracking the ball," Young stated. "It was great coverage, and that's the league. It's gonna be a lot of great corners out there, a lot of contested catches. It was a great job by T-Mac understanding leverage, fighting pressure with pressure, fading out at the last moment." McMillan also notched a few more impressive grabs, putting a stamp on what was his best showing of the summer. Still hunting McMillan wasn't the only receiver who shined on Monday. Veteran Hunter Renfrow also turned heads, continuing his standout offseason with another strong day. Renfrow, however, knows his journey to the initial 53-man roster is far from over. The former Pro Bowler praised his fellow wideouts. "We have a bunch of different personalities, bunch of different ages. But amazing," he said. "I think we have a really good group, I think we have a really talented group. It's the deepest I've ever been around. We have seven or eight guys that can comfortably go out there and play and a lot of young guys that are proving they can. "And so, it just pushes you. It pushes you every day. I think the Bible talks about iron sharpening iron—and that's what it is. And hopefully, we can do that every day and then the other people we have out there can see that and be inspired from that and make every day the best we can." Canales, who lauded Renfrow for his work again on Monday, did not rule out using the 29-year-old as a returner moving forward. Daniel Wiffen misses out on 400m Freestyle Final after recovering from appendicitis: ‘I'm not letting it affect me'
Belfast native McMillan posted a time of 3:47.55 to finish 14th for Great Britain, over a second off the time required to qualify for the Final. Ireland's Wiffen finished 16th with a time of 3:47.57. The Magheralin man said: 'I was pretty disappointed with the overall time. I didn't follow the race plan I was meant to. Honestly though I'm happy, it's a warm-up for my main events later in the week. I'm looking forward to the 800m in the next two days. 'I had appendicitis about five weeks ago, but I'm not using that as an excuse, as I'm hopefully fully recovered at this point. I'm not letting it affect me at this World Championships. I'm here to race and race fast'. Wiffen will also compete in the 800m and 1500m. This time last year, Wiffen won Olympic gold in the 800m and bronze over 1500m.

Texas A&M will reportedly host 2026 4-star SF for an official visit next month
New Texas A&M basketball head coach Bucky McMillan has been hard at work building his first roster with the program, already landing 13 players, including 11 from the transfer portal, led by forward Mackenzie Mgbako (Indiana) and guard Pop Isaacs (Creighton), who will more than likely lead the Aggies in several categories next season. This month, outside of looking for two more veterans to add to the roster, coupled with transfer forward Rashaun Agee's impending eligibility news, McMillan has offered a long list of 2026 recruits, looking to land at least three, four, or five prospects in the cycle, which would be an impressive feat for a Texas A&M program that isn't considered a blue-blood basketball program. On Saturday, more progress was made, as it was announced that the son of former Dallas Mavericks star forward Josh Howard, 2026 four-star SF Bryson Howard, is set to take an official visit to Texas A&M on August 29-30, followed by North Carolina, Texas, Duke, Houston, Kentucky, UConn, and Tennessee in September and early October. This is great news for the Aggies, who offered Howard two months ago, while McMillan and his veteran staff have already developed a solid relationship with the incoming senior. Last season, Howard averaged 17.1 points per game, 10.4 rebounds, and 1.4 blocks per game in nearly 26 minutes of play. According to 247Sports, Howard is currently positioned as the 28th-ranked prospect in the 2026 class, the 11th-ranked small forward, and the 2nd-ranked prospect in Texas. Texas A&M is a finalist to land elite 2026 4-star SF out of Corpus Christi (TX)
Texas A&M's basketball program is under new management, as the 2025-2026 season will feature head coach Bucky McMillan leading the Aggies. This marks a drastic change from the last three seasons under Buzz Williams, as the program's all-time leading scorer, Wade Taylor IV, has also departed. However, change was needed after six seasons with Williams at the helm, who, while producing three consecutive NCAA Tournament teams, never advanced past the Round of 32. In contrast, Texas A&M has never advanced past the Sweet 16 throughout the NCAA Tournament's existence. This offseason, returning just one player in redshirt freshman forward Chris McDermott, McMillan added 12 players from the transfer portal, including veteran guard Pop Isaacs and former Indiana forward Mackenzie Mgbako. While McMillan is looking to add two more players to reach the 15-player threshold, this roster is talented enough to compete for a postseason bid. On the recruiting trail, McMillan has yet to land a 2026 commit, but is now a finalist for one of the top small forward prospects in the cycle, as four-star Billy White III, who also included Oklahoma State, Oklahoma, Kansas, TCU, Stanford, Maryland, LSU, Virginia, and SMU in his top 10 program list. During his 2024-2025 junior season at Veterans Memorial in Corpus Christi (TX), White averaged 18.8 points, 9.4 rebounds, and 2.7 assists per game, while leading his team to a 39-1 record. His shooting ability, combined with impressive defense and rebounding makes him a borderline five-star prospect with an extremely high ceiling. While he has official visits lined up with six of his ten finalists, it's a positive development that Texas A&M is still on his radar heading into the fall. According to 247Sports, White is currently positioned as the 33rd-ranked prospect in the cycle, the 14th-ranked small forward, and the 4th-ranked prospect in Texas.
