MELAKA – A male social media influencer who dressed and behaved like a woman was detained by the Melaka Islamic Religious Department (Jaim) while doing a live broadcast on TikTok in Banda Hilir, here, early Monday morning.
Jaim director Datuk Md Azhan Samat said the 25-year-old man was arrested by the department's enforcement officers at about 1.30am following public complaints.
He said the man was wearing a purple blouse, a bun-styled wig, women's shoes and earrings during the inspection.
"The items were seized by the religious enforcement officers and will be used as evidence in the case," he said in a statement.
He added that the man was brought to Jaim's office for documentation process and further investigation.
Jaim conducted the raid following public complaints claiming that the man's actions were promoting and normalising the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) community culture in the country, which made many people uncomfortable.
Azhan reminded Muslims not to adopt LGBT lifestyles as it is prohibited in Islam and may offend the sensitivities of Malaysians.
"This act is also against the law, which does not support any form of LGBT practices in Malaysia.
"The case is being investigated under Section 72 of the Syariah Offences Enactment (Melaka State) 1991 (which pertains to the offence of a man posing as a woman in a public place)," he said.
Those found guilty of the offence are liable to a fine of up to RM1,000, a jail term of up to six months or both.
