US healthcare company opens branch in Melaka
MELAKA: A United States-based healthcare company has opened a branch in this historic city, drawn by the state's cultural harmony and inclusive spirit. Intrinsque Health, a global provider of clinical trial support services, launched its 10th international office on Jalan Portugis, near Jonker Walk, on Friday (July 18). The opening was officiated by Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh. President and CEO of the company, Nitin Jain, said Melaka's long-standing tradition of peaceful coexistence among its diverse communities made it a standout location. 'There's nowhere else in the world quite like Melaka as a true kaleidoscope of cultures that have coexisted harmoniously for centuries. "As someone from India, I deeply appreciate how this state has preserved its social cohesion, especially when the Chief Minister has gone global to attract investors like me by promoting the state's unity,' he said. Jain said the investment aligns with the company's expansion goals and values. 'This is not just a business decision as we want to be part of communities that value unity and diversity,' he said. Meanwhile, Ab Rauf said the company's presence is expected to create 500 job opportunities and help drive Melaka's vision to become a hub for high-value industries, especially in healthcare and clinical research. He also thanked Jain for selecting Melaka as one of Intrinsque's regional bases and commended its focus on local development. Also present at the opening ceremony were Melaka Health, Human Resources and Unity Committee Chairman Datuk Ngwe Hee Sem, Deputy Speaker of the State Assembly Kerk Chee Yee, Kota Laksamana assemblyman Low Chee Leong, businessman Tan Sri Syed Mohd Yusof, and Melaka Tengah OCPD Asst Comm Christopher Patit. In conjunction with the launch, two paramedic e-scooters were donated to the Melaka Civil Defence Force (APM) Corporate Officers. The symbolic handover was carried out by Ab Rauf to APM Melaka Director Lt. Kol (PA) Kamarulsyah Muslim and witnessed by APM Corporate Officers Association chairman Col (PA) Mike Thein. The event also featured a lion dance performance.

Girl, 13, dies after being flung from car, run over by another vehicle on Malaysian expressway
A young girl was killed after being flung from a multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) in an accident along KM189.1 of the North-South Expressway in the Malaysian town of Jasin on Friday (June 27). Iris Sofea Mohamed Siddiq Khan, 13, was one of nine passengers in the MPV that was en route to Singapore from Kuala Lumpur, according to Malaysian publication The Star. Preliminary investigations revealed the vehicle suffered a burst tyre, reported the publication. "The 36-year-old driver subsequently lost control of the vehicle, which struck a guardrail along the expressway. The impact of the collision caused the victim to be ejected from the vehicle, landing on the opposite lane, where she was hit by another car," Jasin OCPD Supt Mohamad Rusli Mat was quoted as saying. Iris died at the scene at 7.54am while her 10-year-old sister suffered serious injuries. The other passengers, aged between 63 and four years old, sustained minor injuries. Both drivers were unscathed. In a Facebook post on the same day, Melaka Health, Human Resources and Unity Committee chairman Datuk Ngwe Hee Sem extended his condolences to the families of the deceased. He shared that he had visited the surviving victims who are being treated at Hospital Jasin. "The tragedy resulted in the death of the driver's 13-year-old daughter and serious injuries to his 10-year-old daughter, who is being treated in the red zone of Hospital Melaka," he said. Teen girl dies after being flung from car on highway in Melaka
MELAKA: A 13-year-old girl was killed after being flung from a multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) and landing on the opposite lane in a road tragedy along KM189.1 of the North-South Expressway in Jasin. Jasin OCPD Supt Mohamad Rusli Mat identified the victim as Iris Sofea Mohamed Siddiq Khan, who died at the scene following the incident at 7.54am on Friday (June 27). Preliminary investigations revealed that the MPV, which was travelling from Kuala Lumpur to Singapore to visit family members, suffered a burst front right tyre. "The 36-year-old driver subsequently lost control of the vehicle, which struck a guardrail along the expressway. The impact of the collision caused the victim to be ejected from the vehicle, landing on the opposite lane, where she was hit by another car," he said on Friday (June 27). Supt Mohamad Rusli added that there were nine passengers in the MPV, aged between 63 and four years old, at the time of the incident. "The deceased's 10-year-old sister sustained serious injuries, while other passengers suffered minor injuries. The drivers of both vehicles were not injured," he said. Supt Mohamad Rusli said the incident is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death by reckless or dangerous driving. Meanwhile, Melaka Health, Human Resources and Unity Committee chairman, Datuk Ngwe Hee Sem, who visited the victims, confirmed that all the injured were receiving treatment at Hospital Melaka and Hospital Jasin. "The tragedy resulted in the death of the driver's 13-year-old daughter and serious injuries to his 10-year-old daughter, who is being treated in the red zone of Hospital Melaka," he said.

MELAKA: The Melaka Health Depertment has been ordered to conduct an immediate investigation into an allegation that a 22-month-old baby girl with a high fever suffered a seizure after waiting 11 hours for treatment at Melaka Hospital yesterday. State Health, Human Resources and Unity Committee chairman Datuk Ngwe Hee Sem said although he was abroad on official duty, he was aware of the viral case and had ordered a thorough investigation to be conducted. 'I have contacted the Melaka Health director (Dr Ruzita Mustaffa), as well as the top management of Melaka Hospital and have requested an investigation into this matter. At the same time, I hope no one will make any assumptions until the case is resolved,' he said when contacted by reporters today. Earlier, a 13-minute video went viral on social media showing a baby crying in pain, drawing sympathy from netizens. Many netizens left comments calling for an investigation into the case, with some claiming that such incidents had occurred too many times and should be brought to an end immediately. Meanwhile, the baby's mother, Siti Aishah Rahim, 27, stated on her Facebook page that she and her mother arrived at the Emergency and Trauma Department of Melaka Hospital at 2.30 pm on Saturday after her eldest daughter 22-month-old Siti Farha Adelia Mohd Firdaus suddenly developed a fever. She said upon arrival, a nurse took her daughter's blood sample but left her unattended, as the baby's temperature rose steadily to 38, 39, and eventually 40 degrees Celsius. 'I kept asking, but the only response I received was to wait until my baby had a seizure at 1 am yesterday (Sunday), causing her body to stiffen,' she said. The baby was then transferred from the Green Zone to the Yellow Zone after her condition worsened before doctors attempted to stabilise her.
