ALSO READ: Shane Tamura used AR-15 in NYC shooting, America's most deadly gun involved in 10 of the deadliest US massacres since 2012 Live Events From civil lawsuits to criminal charges, these events have intensified scrutiny around player conduct and mental health, especially as the pressures of high-level competition take their toll. Here are some of the most notable criminal incidents involving NFL players: Antonio Brown (Former Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver) Former NFL star Antonio Brown has been charged with second-degree attempted murder following a shooting outside an amateur boxing event on May 16, 2025 in Miami. According to an arrest warrant, the 36-year-old allegedly took a handgun from a security guard and fired two shots at Zul-Qarnain Kwame Nantambu, a man he had fought with earlier. One bullet reportedly grazed the victim's neck. Brown, a former All-Pro receiver, last played for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2021. If convicted, he faces up to 15 years in prison and a $10,000 fine. L'Jarius Sneed (Tennessee Titans cornerback) Tennessee Titans defensive back L'Jarius Sneed is facing a $1 million lawsuit from Christian Nshimiyimana, a Texas man who alleges Sneed or his personal assistant fired gunshots at him while he was sitting in a Mercedes-Benz G-Wagon on a dealership lot in Carrollton, Texas, on December 6, 2024. Nshimiyimana, who owns an exotic car rental business, was researching vehicles when shots were allegedly fired from a passing Lamborghini Urus. No one was injured in the incident. The lawsuit accuses Sneed of involvement in the shooting, though no criminal charges have been filed. The NFL and Titans are monitoring the situation. Phillip Adams (Former Atlanta Falcons cornerback) On April 7, 2021, former NFL player Phillip Adams fatally shot six people in South Carolina before taking his own life during a standoff with police the following day. He was 32. A post-mortem examination revealed Adams suffered from severe chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE), a condition linked to repeated head trauma and believed to have contributed to his actions. Adams played 78 NFL games over five seasons for six teams. Drafted by the San Francisco 49ers in the seventh round in 2010, he also played for the Patriots, Seahawks, Raiders, Jets, and ended his career with the Falcons in 2015. Aaron Hernandez (Former New England Patriots tight end) Aaron Hernandez, a former New England Patriots tight end, was drafted in the fourth round in 2010 and played three seasons before his career unraveled. In 2013, he was arrested and charged with the murder of Odin Lloyd, a semipro football player and friend who was dating the sister of Hernandez's fiancée. Hernandez was convicted in 2015 and sentenced to life in prison without parole. He was also charged in a 2012 double homicide outside a Boston nightclub but was acquitted days before his death. On April 19, 2017, Hernandez was found dead in his prison cell, ruled a suicide. Anthony Wayne Smith (Former Oakland Raiders defensive end) Anthony Wayne Smith, a former first-round NFL draft pick by the Raiders in 1990, played seven seasons with the team in Los Angeles and Oakland. In November 2015, a Los Angeles County jury convicted him of three counts of murder with special circumstances, including torture, kidnapping, and multiple murders. The convictions stemmed from the 1999 abduction and fatal shooting of brothers Kevin and Ricky Nettles, and the 2001 beating and stabbing death of Dennis Henderson. Jurors couldn't reach a verdict on a fourth murder case involving Smith's friend Maurilio Ponce. In January 2016, Smith was sentenced to three life terms without parole.

The LEGEND electrified: Mercedes-Benz G580 EQ review
It's entirely fair to say the Mercedes-Benz G580 EQ is not what we were expecting. Based on the brand's other EQ electric cars we've reviewed, we had a radically futuristic vehicle in mind. And frankly, we were concerned about how electrification would gel with the legendary G-Class off-roader. You see, there's always been something profoundly moving about sliding behind the wheel of a Mercedes-Benz G-Wagon. It's all the little details that matter. The clickity-clack of the doors, the bolt-upright windshield, the pitch, roll and yaw as you coerce the body-on-frame chassis. All of these things are what makes a G-Wagon. The Edition One gets all the available extras for R4 million. That's still cheaper than if you specced them all yourself on a regular G-Class. Image: Ray Leathern However, the Mercedes-Benz G580 EQ is a G-Wagon that's been future-proofed. As you approach the vehicle there's a unique hum from its pre-cooling fans. It sounds more like a maniacal digeridoo in the Australian outback and it is a strange first introduction. Then again, the three electric motors waiting to unleash their fury do need special treatment. So, let's talk numbers, because they do tell a compelling story. The Mercedes-Benz G580 EQ packs a 116-kWh battery feeding three electric motors. Collectively these produce 432 kW (580 horsepower as per the naming convention) and a whopping 1 164 Nm of torque. Weight wise, yes, the electric G is a hefty old hector – weighing in at 3 085 kg, which is 445 kg more than an equivalent G63 AMG. What goes fast and silently, must also be recharged, often for quite a few hours. Image: Ray Leathern Despite its three-tonnes, zero to 100 km/h sprints are dispatched in a mere 4.7 seconds. Range-wise, Mercedes-Benz claims around 450 km, although after a recharge to full, the real-world figure was closer to 375 km. As far as recharging goes, the Mercedes-Benz G580 EQ can accept a maximum charge of 200 kW. Which would enable 80% replenishment in just 30 minutes. Of course, nowhere in South Africa offers such ferocious power. So, you will need to exercise patience when using a typical 11 kW AC home charger, which will take 11 hours. Moreover, we attempted to recharge at a 40 kW DC public charger, only to find it was operating at no more than 20 kW. Another lengthy wait ensued. Misguided G-Wagon diehards might not like to hear it, but the G580 EQ is a worthy addition to the G-Class range. Image: Ray Leathern Nevertheless, charging aside, what really leaves its mark is how utterly familiar the Mercedes-Benz G580 EQ feels. This isn't some radical departure from G-Wagon orthodoxy, but rather an evolution that honors decades of rich heritage. We've been lucky enough to drive all kinds of G-Wagons over the decades. We've conquered Mount Schockl in Austria, wheels spinning on loose gravel as we clawed our way up impossible gradients, and then ate schnitzels to celebrate. There's the spartan Professional version that we criss-crossed South African with. Its bare-bones interior and mechanical simplicity is still one of our absolute favourite G-Wagons ever. And of course, a series of glittering, high-powered AMG variants over the years are more Hollywood Rodeo Drive than Tankwa Karoo. Each iteration writes a unique chapter but is imbued with the same bullet-proof DNA. Besides a bit of blue lighting, the G580's interior is identical to that of a regular G-Class. Image: File Now, the Mercedes-Benz G580 EQ reaches for an entirely new world. And yet, the cabin and controls are blissfully familiar. If you've driven a G-Wagon in the last century, you'll feel immediately at home. The user experience remains refreshingly analog despite the high-tech underpinnings. There's no need to decipher cryptic menus. Engage Drive, point the wheel where you want to go, and the G580 simply goes. Just as before, three differential locks and low-range transfer case remain (electric, of course) operated via similar buttons on the facia. Even its approach and departure angles are unchanged. There's 850 mm of wading depth, 250 mm of ground clearance and approach/departure angles of 32 and 30.7 degrees, respectively. Crucially, the Mercedes-Benz G580 EQ's battery pack sits low in the chassis, protected by a 26 mm carbon plate. This fundamentally alters the vehicle's center of gravity … for the better! Where conventional G-Wagons are top-heavy, prone to the body roll, pitch and yaw, the electric G580 does none of that. Its lateral stability and immediacy when changing direction is truly remarkable. Cleverly, that's not the spare-wheel compartment but where you store your charging cables. Image: Ray Leathern For existing G-Wagon owners/fans, as radical as it may be, the Mercedes-Benz G580 EQ actually represents continuity rather than revolution. It delivers the same commanding presence, go-anywhere capability and luxury appointments, but with all the refinement that comes from electric propulsion. And it is this seamless, surprising integration that is the G580's greatest achievement. In an era when electrification often means a radical departure, the Mercedes-Benz G580 EQ has retained everything that made it great while adding a new raft of benefits. Trust us, if you're already part of the G-Wagon family, the G580 will slip into your life perfectly seamlessly. It's the same vehicle you know and love, just more capable than ever before. ‘It's time to eat, comrades!': When the struggle becomes a buffet for the powerful
Luxury cars, fake audits, and whisky-soaked denials—inside the mockery of accountability at the ANC's upper ranks. Despite the large gas burners on the marble terrace, a chill wind drifting across the billionaire enclave of Steyn City meant the comrades were forced to head inside to the private room at the On Your Marx High Rollers Club. Butlers took their Gucci and Versace mohair and leather jackets… but not before each of the wearers had made certain the others in the room took note of his excellent taste. All of them in the room were men – equality between the sexes hadn't yet reached into the upper levels of the ANC in the province. There was one last ritual all observed as they sat down around the highly polished mahogany table. Trying to look casual, they deposited their car key fobs from Europe's finest brands: a Range Rover here, a Mercedes-Benz G-Wagon there, a BMW 750Li or even an Audi e-Tron electric car (which, ironically, belonged to the man from City Power who had bought the plot next door for his own solar panel farm)… a Ferrari or Lamborghini. When the butlers had returned with the crystal glasses loaded with Johnnie Blue doubles, all present got to their feet. 'Here's to us!' they said in unison as they slugged the scotch whisky which was worth more than a few Sassa grants per bottle. ALSO READ: Mashaba 'played': Where to now for ActionSA after being kicked into the political wilderness in Joburg? Comrade Rolex (it was obvious from whence his nickname came) said: 'I call this meeting of the Strategic Assessment Task Team to order!' There were some smiles around the table… after a few drinks, the comrades would jokingly refer to the group as the 'I didn't join the Struggle to be Poor' club. 'The first order of business,' Comrade Rolex said, 'Is lifestyle audits…' There was some angry head-shaking around the room. 'Comrade Double Entry,' said the portly man as he swigged his Johnnie, 'I thought your accounting company had that all under control. 'Yet, now we have Panyaza telling the world that 57% of the officials in his administration failed their audits…' ALSO READ: Zuma takes new step to be reinstated as ANC member Comrade Double Entry, the accountant who loaded the lifestyle audit tender by 200%, said: 'I tried to talk to Panyaza about that before the press conference, but he was looking at cars at the Porsche dealership… 'However, my understanding is that he will stick to the template we have been given from Luthuli House: make an announcement so it appears as though we are cracking down, then let everything slip quietly away on the basis that people have a right to respond…' Then a murmur of approval went around the table. 'I see,' said Comrade Riviera (so named because of his favourite vacation spot), 'that Panyaza did say that those of us who failed would be moved, but nowhere did he say anything about disciplinary action or criminal charges. That's excellent.' Comrade Shelf Company reminded the gathering that the tried and tested method of camouflage was to work through fronts and family members, as had been shown by Comrade Paul over the years. 'These journalists talk about the Alex Mafia and how a billion disappeared… yet nobody is in jail. They have no clue!' ALSO READ: Joburg motion of no confidence: ActionSA 'ready to sacrifice' as DA responds to claims about Gwamanda's return Laughter rippled around the room. Comrade Rolex reminded them: 'It was sheer genius to appoint Shamila Batohi to the NPA. Even if she gets dockets from the Hawks and SIU and there are no mistakes in them, her people can't prosecute their way out of a wet paper bag!' He added: 'Meeting concluded!' The butlers re-entered. 'Time to eat, comrades!'

Pope Leo waves during first popemobile ride for inauguration in Vatican
To view this video please enable JavaScript, and consider upgrading to a web browser that supports HTML5 video Pope Leo arrived for his inauguration at St Peter's Square where thousands of people have gathered. The new pontiff, Leo XIV, rode the signature popemobile through the huge crowd in the heart of Vatican City today. Pope Leo, the first American pontiff, will formally take up his role as the head of the Catholic Church following his election after the death of Pope Francis. The pontiff was seen standing and waving at well-wishers at the back fo the popemobile – a one-of-a-kind version of the Mercedes-Benz G-Wagon specially made for the pope. Security measures in the Vatican are strict as around 250,000 people are expected for the inauguration mass. Guests include the US Vice President JD Vance, Ukraine's leader Volodomyr Zelensky and Prince Edward. During the funeral procession of Pope Francis last month, a secret military unit with drone capabilities was deployed to keep an eye on the sky above the Holy See. For Pope Leo's inauguration, the area is monitored by a bomb squad and snipers on rooftops as well as an army of volunteers. He was elected into the role by the secretive conclave on May 8. He was born in Chicago as Robert Prevost, and he was named a cardinal by Francis in 2023. More Trending The 69-year-old pontiff has two brothers, John and Louis Prevost, who said they have teased him about becoming the pope one day. John Prevost told Sky News: 'I said to him 'did you watch the movie Conclave so you know how to behave?' 'And he had just finished watching Conclave – so he knew how to behave. 'I wanted to take his mind off it and laugh about something because this is now an awesome responsibility.' Got a story?
